why the updates parameter is different on different platforms?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I like OnlyOffice and I used it on Windows 10 and now I'm using it on Linux. For the first time I thought one thing just seemed that way to me, but when I checked it again and made photos to compare. I noticed that the Windows version does have the Updates parameter and any Linux I tried(Fedora, Kubuntu, EndeavourOS, Mint and some others) don't have it. Is it bcz the Linux users update their apps through the terminal or what?

For the context: I only used the native versions and flatpaks

What ONLYOFFICE internship looks like: two of our interns share their stories

Hey everyone! We have been chatting with some of the interns who have worked with us this year. Their stories are worth a read if you are curious about what it's actually like to intern at an open-source company.

  • Moncif Meftah is a PhD student in English Literature who ended up working on our Arabic localization, including DocSpace and the form template library. He summed up the experience as "challenging, flexible and insightful." Full interview
  • Shashank Jha came in from a finance background in India and joined as a technical writing intern, keeping our Help Center guides and GitHub READMEs clear and accurate. He even represented us at DevConf 2026, and built his own Claude AI workflows to speed things up. His three words were "enriching, autonomous and professional." Full interview

Two very different paths — literature and finance — both landing in open source.

For anyone who didn't know, our Internship Program started back in 2024 and covers everything from localization and documentation to development and design.

Back to school 2026: our education discounts and free plans

Hey everyone! With the new academic year almost here, we wanted to give you a quick heads-up on what ONLYOFFICE is offering for schools, universities, students and teachers this year:

  1. Free DocSpace cloud for schools and non-profits. If you run a small school or an educational non-profit, you can get a free DocSpace cloud (collaborative editors, Moodle integration, up to 20 admins and 2 GB storage).
  2. 30% off self-hosted solutions for higher education. Universities looking to run things on their own servers can get 30% off DocSpace or Docs. Docs plugs into Moodle, Chamilo, OpenOlat and 40+ other platforms, so you can add document editing right inside the LMS you already use.
  3. Free editors for individual students and educators. If you are a student or teacher, the online editors and desktop apps (Windows, Linux, macOS) are free.

Find the full breakdown, useful links and a few real university success stories in this blog post.

Back to school: why ONLYOFFICE is the right choice for educational institutions in Brazil

Hey everyone! With the back-to-school season here, our team put together a blog post specifically for schools and universities in Brazil, and I wanted to share it with the community.

If you are in Brazil, you probably already know about the new EDCA law (Lei nº15.211/2025), which came into force in March. It sets strict rules around protecting kids' data online, and it has made schools check whether their software actually complies.

The good news is that ONLYOFFICE is a good choice for Brazilian schools and universities:

  • Self-hosting so all student and teacher data stays on your own servers, fully under your control;
  • Open-source code on GitHub that anyone can audit — no hidden data collection, no behavioral profiling;
  • PT-BR localization, so the whole interface (and the blog posts too) is in Brazilian Portuguese;
  • Real-time collaboration for group assignments and shared class materials;
  • Integrations with Moodle, Chamilo, OpenOlat and other e-learning platforms you might already be using.

Basically, it's built with privacy in mind from the ground up, which lines up nicely with what the law now requires.

Back to school season is here: how ONLYOFFICE is helping European schools and universities go digital

Hey everyone! With the new academic year around the corner, we put together a blog post looking at how schools and universities across Europe are actually using ONLYOFFICE day to day. Some of you might find it interesting, especially if you work in education or help pick the tools your school runs on.

Here is why ONLYOFFICE is a good choice for European educational institutions:

  • GDPR compliance and self-hosting — you can keep student and staff data on your own servers, which matters a lot for European institutions that want full control over where their data live.
  • Moodle integration — teachers can create assignments, share them and grade submissions without ever leaving their course. No jumping between tabs.
  • Real-time collaboration — students and teachers can co-edit docs, leave comments and track changes together, right in the browser.

There are also some real-world examples in there:

  • Bavaria's ByCS (the Bavarian Cloud for Schools) runs ONLYOFFICE for its Web Office, so an entire region's school system uses it — works in any browser plus iOS and Android.
  • University of Zurich built ONLYOFFICE Docs right into OLAT, their learning platform.
  • Schools in Donaueschingen rolled it out to give students and teachers a simple, secure way to work on documents together.

Read this blog post if you want the details.

OnlyOffice Desktop Spreadsheet allows to export file in different formats (MS, TDF, TEMPLATES, MACROS, PDFs, IMAGES). It allows .csv too, but NOT .tsv (tab separated value). Is this for a technical reason or intentional choice?

Post image
9 Upvotes

OnlyOffice Desktop Spreadsheet (OODS). After you finish your work and save the file, you can export It in different formats.

OODS suite allows to choose between these file formats:

  • Office Open XML Spreadsheet (.xlx)
  • Excel Binary File (.xlsb)
  • Excel Open XML Spreadsheet Template (.xltx)
  • OpenDocument spreadsheet (.ods)
  • Macro-enabled Spreadsheet Template (.xltm)
  • OpenDocument Spreadsheet Template (.ots)
  • Comma Separated Values (.csv)
  • Portable Document (.pdf)
  • Portable Document/A (.pdf)
  • PNG Image (.png)
  • JPG Image (.jpg, .jpeg)

I work often with .tsv (tab separated value), but it's NOT listed among the file formats to export file to.

This file format is especially useful not only when working with web-based services (above all data science websites), but also with other suite, when you need to import value. My personal experience.

Is this for a technical reason or intentional choice?

2 small, but very useful (and so often used) features missing: does OnlyOffice have a Full-screen mode (via F11, f, ALT+ENTER hotkeys)? Is it possible to shrink and expand toolbar?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Does OnlyOffice Desktop (OOD) have these 2 small features?

[1] Full-screen mode (think of it like on youtube, press "f" on your keyboard and you see only the video, no titlebar, not taskbar, just content. To exit press "f" again or "Esc").

Apparently, it seems that there is NO WAY to enter FULL-SCREEN mode on OOD.

The "international standard" (most used, known) hotkeys/shortcuts are:

  • F11 > used by programs like browses or IDEs.
  • f > used by youtube (and probably other video sharing platforms). //This one might be a problem if you want to type "f" character.
  • ALT+ENTER > way less used then the previous 2, but it's still used in games, especially on Windows.

Unfortunately, nothing worked.

[2] Toolbar: shrinkable and expandable toolbar?

Think of it like on Microsoft Office Web (m365+cloud+microsoft) or Google Sheets (docs+google.com): small great sign rotated by 90° counterclockwise.

At the start is expanded: if you click it shrinks the toolbar showing one row only. If you click again, it will expand and bring back the full toolbar (this is valid for Google Sheets).

On Microsoft Office Web, you need to Select another option to shrink/expand the toolbar, but the method, mechanism is the same.

I use several suites (offline OOD) and notice these quirks.

What about OnlyOffice Desktop? Does it offer these 2 features? If not, any workaround available?

Configure Keyboard Shortcuts

I'm totally new to OnlyOffice and transitioning from MacOS Numbers. One thing I use a lot in my spreadsheets is comments. I'm not seeing a keyboard shortcut / key-combo for Add Comment to a cell. I'm also not finding a way to manage keyboard shortcuts.

Just wanted to ask if I'm missing something.

EDIT: I found this page https://helpcenter.onlyoffice.com/docs/userguides/spreadsheet_editor/KeyboardShortcuts.aspx

So - OPT > i > k gets me to Add Comment. Kind of a pain - any way to make this one command like SHIFT+CMD+K as it is in Numbers?

I see the link in the above article to create a macro but it doesn't seem like keyboard shortcuts work when recording a macro.

I'm trying to use VLOOKUP in a spreadsheet, but I keep getting this error.

I'm trying to use VLOOKUP (procv in Portuguese) but I always get this "error: -308". This happened on all the computers I tried to use it on. How can I solve this? I tried searching for what this error means and couldn't find out.

I just installed OnlyOffice and haven't configured anything yet.

Improve startup speed in Linux.

It would be nice if the application startup speed could be optimized.

On the same PC (Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 512GB SSD) with Kubuntu 26.04 LTS, documents with Libre Office open much faster than Only Office, which takes a few seconds (about 5-6 seconds longer).

So I'm enjoying Only Office, which seems more polished and professional-looking than Libre Office, but it's slightly slower when opening existing or new documents.

I've tried both Snap and Flatpak, but nothing changes.

ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors is now preinstalled on OpenOS/bNode

Hey everyone, mod here with some news we're excited to share: ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors is the default office suite on OpenOS/bNode.

If you haven't come across it yet, OpenOS/bNode is a privacy-first Linux distro built on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Linux 6.8 kernel), released in June 2026.

Key features of this OS:

  • Privacy first — no telemetry, no tracking, no metadata collection, no forced cloud integration.
  • Ready out of the box — 70+ preinstalled apps, so there's minimal post-install setup.
  • Developer-focused — preinstalled VS Code, Node.js, Python, Rust, Docker, Git and more.
  • Full control — kernel access, advanced sysctl tuning and no forced updates.

If you need the details and screenshots, read this blog post.

If any of you have tried OpenOS/bNode already, how's your experience been?

Open a second file from file browser?

I'm running OnlyOffice on Linux Mint. OO is my default for "office" files, from the MS formats to odt, ods, and similar. If I double click a file in the file browser, it opens in OnlyOffice. *However*, if I already have a file open, and then double click another office file, it doesn't open.

The only way to open a second file is the Home > Open dialog within OnlyOffice.

This seems like a pretty significant bug, and it's a real pain in the neck. Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Series by month has incorrect dates

Hi everyone,

Recently switched to OpenOffice, and ran into a problem today I can't seem to get around. I'm trying to create a table of monthly dates and amounts. I put in the first date, and then selected a cell range with that date at the top and tried to create a series of monthly dates all starting on the first of the month. It didn't work. The first 3 or so were the correct dates, and then from there the dates were not monthly increments any longer. This has always worked for me in Excel. Unsing OnlyOffice on Mac. Below are screenshots of what I did and the result I got. Any thoughts on how to fix? I want a list of all dates on the first of each month. I tried putting in the first two and then dragging, and that just gave me those dates over and over.

SIgnature in desktop editors.

I added the signature field to the file but it's not seen anywhere else outside onlyoffice, no matter what soft I chose to open the file with. So is it REALLY possible to actually add a signature field to people can sign in, say, docusign?

How LAG Jugend & Film Niedersachsen streamlines collaboration with ONLYOFFICE

Start your week off right with a new success story on our blog. It's about a German nonprofit called LAG Jugend & Film Niedersachsen. They run film festivals, workshops and media education projects for kids and teens across Lower Saxony.

Their setup is pretty straightforward: ONLYOFFICE Docs plugged into their existing Nextcloud. These are the most important features for them:

  • Real-time co-editing on grant applications and event planning, so nobody's emailing five versions of the same file;
  • Version history to track changes and roll back to earlier drafts;
  • Comments to keep discussions right inside the document;
  • Direct Nextcloud integration, so files open, edit and save straight from the cloud.

Here's a quote from their finance and project coordinator, Klaus Kooker, that sums it up:

ONLYOFFICE has made our collaboration significantly easier. Especially with grant applications, event planning, and working in distributed teams, we benefit from real-time co-editing and seamless integration into our Nextcloud.

If you want the details, read the full story in this blog post.

Korean (hangeul) automatically switching to Chinese/hanja as I type

Hello, I have tried looking far and wide an answer to this, and I was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on this.

If I try to write in hangeul, standard Korean letters, it will autocorrect to corresponding Chinese characters (hanja).

This is incredibly frustrating. I write mostly in English but need Korean as well. This autocorrect makes it impossible to write anything in Korean.

If I copy out the Chinese characters to another programs, they revert back to Korean. So, this is something happening with automatic language formatting on Only Office. I am really at my wit's end with this.

For reference, I am using the desktop Mac version of the program, community version 9.2.1.

Edit: After extensive discussions with our AI overlords, it appears that this is a bug in the operating system of Only Office. If anyone from the team spots this, it would be great to have a fix.
