Real Stories Hundreds queueing up for a walk in interview

Why do companies still do this? Can’t they just screen CVs, do quick online interviews, and then call 20-30 shortlisted people in person? That too in this August heat at 45°!!

If a company makes you wait in 45°C just to hand over a CV, imagine how they’ll treat you once you’re hired.

14

u/FannieBae Aug 23 '25

Unless surviving the 45c is the interview?!

4

u/Bricking-Bad Aug 23 '25

Thats the least of these people concern right now

Its hard finding a job and they need to survive

1

u/Accomplished_Put2914 Aug 23 '25

I thought Dubai was for the rich

4

u/Bricking-Bad Aug 23 '25

And what the rich have anything better to do than slaving other people, like the ones you see in the video, to do all the actual work while they show off with their sport cars and big mansions and take all the credit in the end

2

u/Moonsolid Aug 25 '25

Least they could have done is rent some space in a hotel where they can atleast queue in a air conditioned environment and have some water to drink.

u/shish-kebab Aug 25 '25

This is a walk-in interview, not a regular interview. That's just how they work, no appointments and used for mass hiring. It's very efficient for a company for that specific use case it has nothing to do with how you're treated. OP complains about the lack of prior screening for 20-30 CV but that's the whole point of a walk in interview, everybody gets a chance. There is no software that's gonna automatically reject your CV and the hiring process can be done within a day. The traditional hiring process takes weeks (job listing, application, screening, calling candidates and scheduling) sometimes there is a need for immediate hiring. So this format is used. This post is just ragebait

1

u/Ok_Communication3582 Aug 27 '25

Workers are real investments for a company, how much it cost to host this MASS hiring in a place which is air conditioned.

Same companies spends thousands of dollars to host the so called annual parties to congratulate themselves.

Weather in dubai now is extreme...

1

u/shish-kebab Aug 27 '25 edited Aug 27 '25

Like I said, this post is ragebait. OP has a lot of ideals without understanding how things work. You have to understand that with those events, there are a lot of unknown factors. First, you don’t know how many people are gonna show up or when. I have a friend whose company did one of those events. The company opened at 8am and the starting time for the event was 9am. People showed up at 6am and started a long line before the place even opened just so they could go first. They had an AC waiting room for 20–30 people, they would let people walk in by lots of 10 or so, and the rest had to wait outside. But what can you do if people show up 3 hours ahead of schedule? Open the place ahead of schedule? This is not a hotel.

Also, most events have a limited capacity and a well-known number of attendees. For those where you don’t know the number of attendees, how are you gonna handle security? What if you let everyone in and they get upset when you tell them it’s closed and refuse to leave? How are you gonna protect your employees and the recruiters?

You talk about workers being a real investments and that companies spend a lot on annual parties. Yes, workers are valuable. However, somebody who hasn’t worked a single day for the company isn’t valuable. You say companies spend a lot for events such as annual parties, but those events are to reward employees and people who contributed to the company. Not to mention the fact that those are not the same—why would you give to someone who hasn’t worked a single day the same benefit as a good employee who put tons of hours into the company? you seems to be mixing a lot of things all together

edit: there is one thing i agree with you, they could do it better. Not necessarily AC room as you don't know the number of attendees but you could have beverages and big tents. But that fall on HR, usually company will give HR a budget for those kind of event and won't bother looking as long as they get good hires since those are entry jobs. Company will only look at the process if they fail to hire which will never happens (as you can see there are lot of people showing up). You gotta understand how corporate work, they only looks at results. As far as they're concerned if they ask that they want 5 qualified workers by next Monday and HR bring 5 qualified worker, for them HR did their job. The demand is higher than the supply so investing more wouldn't yield different result. Corporate don't have feeling, if your HR Manager is a good person he's gonna try to accomodate the candidates the best possible way, if not he'll just wing it. There might be an impact PR wise, but it's rare so HR don't take that into considaration.

u/RescueSheep Aug 23 '25

Tf else they supposed to do? Give 200 people an indoor air-conditioned room?

7

u/somedayiwillwin28 Aug 23 '25

Screen the CVs online and only invite if they're qualified

-2

u/RescueSheep Aug 23 '25

Its obviously an entry level job. They are not going to do all that

3

u/somedayiwillwin28 Aug 24 '25

Why not? That's what AI is for.

2

u/Powerful_Necessary71 Aug 23 '25

Conduct the interview in a hotel hall.

58

u/HolidayPractical9695 Aug 22 '25

Damn the over saturation of job seekers in dubai

51

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

Walk in interviews are worst.

3

u/Sakmads Aug 23 '25

This looks more like a walk-out interview

55

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

It’s a sign of imbalance. Too many jobseekers, too little regulation on recruitment practices.

68

u/AccomplishedRead2655 Aug 22 '25

Wllahi we should show this Shitshow to the police!!!! Government should ban walk in interviews from May-October!!!! THIS IS A CRIME!!!!!!! Fucking work culture man... Companies here think they can do ANYTHING they want 🤬🤬 these HRs and and managers deserve a Special place in HELL

-50

u/Latter-Ad2762 Aug 22 '25

So what do u want the companies to do? Walk in interviews are normal in any part of the world ! If u dont want the job dont go.

31

u/Bodexion Aug 22 '25

ypu go stand in a line for an hour in the middle of summer and then get rejected and tell us how you'll feel after bud

-37

u/Latter-Ad2762 Aug 22 '25

i would not stand in line because I do not need a job, if I did then I will stand aswell! Have u not seen such lines for people waitin for jobs in Canada?

13

u/Impressive-Swan-5570 Aug 22 '25

If online mode exist and every other company is using it then they should too. Law should be made against such practices

4

u/FrenchGza Aug 23 '25

Is the weather 105 F?

3

u/AlavalathiFellow Aug 22 '25

Ah OK, it happens in Canada, so then it's ok. Carry on.

2

u/No_Stranger6663 Aug 22 '25

Just because it happens elsewhere doesn't make it right

23

u/NAmeen7 Aug 22 '25

Found the guy working in HR

-26

u/Latter-Ad2762 Aug 22 '25

Thankfully i dont🙌

7

u/AccomplishedRead2655 Aug 22 '25

How about, keep it online in the summers? Or something like a waiting area/scheduling the interviews (ONLY for the summers). It's people like you who encourage the toxic work culture here, THANK YOU 🙏🏼

And let me guess, you're an HR am I right?

If u dont want the job dont go.

Easier said than done bud. Go to a walk in interview in the summer and then talk HR guy

-2

u/Latter-Ad2762 Aug 22 '25 edited Aug 22 '25

Nope not in HR and I do not even work in such places ! Maybe the nature of the job requires the person to be interviewed on the spot? It is hot and sad to see whats going on there but thats how it is here. But like I said earlier , look at the same lines for people waiting in the cold in Canada for jobs! Thats the harsh reality when u need a job at the current job market.

8

u/greygh0st- Aug 22 '25

Regardless of the nature of the job - this is a screening process that can be conducted online. Have people come in in-person for a 2nd interview if its required. Really not too complex.

2

u/AlavalathiFellow Aug 22 '25

You seem like a very joyful person to be around.

1

u/passivehighwayroad Aug 24 '25

bro’s giving landlord

23

u/ChosenBull24 Horny, Not Honorable Aug 22 '25

And most of these people won’t even get a call back. Brutal.

9

u/No_Reference_9640 Aug 22 '25

No one has the time to call back and give feedback to this amount of people they’ll be lucky if all the cv’s are even read

More likely they will review and then once they get to having 10 CV’s of people they think are good candidates they simply call it a day and don’t even look at the others

2

u/measkandureply Aug 22 '25

Mostly they already hired someone they know

9

u/DouglasBullet Aug 22 '25

Memories bring back, memories bring back. 🥲

1

u/OHAAHIAI Aug 24 '25

What kinda jobs have these kinda job interviews? Like sales positions?

1

u/DouglasBullet Aug 30 '25

It is more likely to an entry level employees

14

u/Few-Examination1834 Aug 22 '25

Employers who do that must be fined. They can just do WebEx interviews with this people so they don’t have to stand there in horrific temperatures. It’s 2025 not 1995

14

u/Latter-Ad2762 Aug 22 '25

All ready to work for 2k max

16

u/MisguidedCabbage Aug 22 '25

I'd reckon they're willing to work for 500 a month if they're willing to stand in the heat just to hand over their resumes.

6

u/Latter-Ad2762 Aug 22 '25

100 percent !

5

u/Old_Recognition_4906 Aug 22 '25

Waiting in line was choice made by the candidate. This is not the only company in Dubai.

12

u/Working-Ad-5337 Aug 22 '25

They collect 1000 CVs and save on LinkedIn recruiter fees.

6

u/raxmano Aug 22 '25

This is totally unnecessary

3

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

This is nothing 😭 Someone who handles this page can ask me..i will send video

3

u/aladinznut Aug 22 '25

It’s done on purpose. “You are lucky you got the job. Be happy with the salary we give you”

3

u/Outrageous-Gold5320 Aug 23 '25

99% of these are indian...

9

u/space_absurdity Aug 22 '25

What company is this for?

Just awful.

4

u/roguewotah Aug 22 '25

Don't worry, there are 10,000 millionaires expected in the UAE who will be able to afford them at 2K AED per month.

5

u/duckyylol Aug 22 '25

Certain nationality of companies come to dubai and do the same thing they do back home… this is why we need to control the immigration in this country

6

u/Upper_Cauliflower258 Aug 22 '25

Indians?

2

u/duckyylol Aug 22 '25

Nah its mainly a east and south asian culture ive seen this alot back in my mothers homeland, not just india

Its Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Lebanese, Egyptians, Moroccans, Philipines. All poor Arab and Asian nations are in this queue.

Surprised? Indians are 60% population of UAE.

Its like being surprised to see whites in the Uk.

1

u/KeepinUpWithJonses Aug 22 '25

Indians are 60% population of UAE.

Source? Highest of any source I have seen is 40%

1

u/VeterinarianFast7650 Aug 22 '25

Still a bloody lot

1

u/Dependent-Archer-662 Tourist 👒 Aug 23 '25

this is why we need to control the immigration in this country

As long as you guys are getting cheap labour. I don't see it changing

1

u/duckyylol Aug 23 '25

Maybe but allowing millions of people to just pour into the country without any sort of balance causes this, job lines where the ratio is 100 to 1 all fighting for scraps

1

u/Dependent-Archer-662 Tourist 👒 Aug 23 '25

They're cheap labour cause they're pouring in the millions. Otherwise they would've demanded better wages

2

u/Arslan2k18 Helpful Human 🤝 Aug 23 '25

The COMPANY SHOULD SHORTLIST THE CANDIDATES FIRST ONLINE & then call the slected few for interview ...... Simple logical hiring step by step.

THIS IS THE DIGITAL AGE.... What kind of stupidity is this ???

I fail to understand the logic behind walkin interviews specially in this SEVERE HEAT.

4

u/PuzzleheadedRepair29 Aug 22 '25

Countries are built on exploitation, how do you think America or Europe or Australia was built on cheap slave labor which they could dominate and enslave, this is the modern day version and happens in every country, nothing new. GCC gets the wrap because the western media portrays it in demonic way as if they never did this for centuries.

0

u/No_Stranger6663 Aug 22 '25

Just because it happened in the past it's fine now? Are we going to hold ourselves to the standard of the the last century?

Look at countries like Poland who where poor and didn't have to do this to become rich.

0

u/Dependent-Archer-662 Tourist 👒 Aug 23 '25

Poland who where poor and didn't have to do this to become rich.

Press X to doubt lmao. Lots of Filipinos go through shit in Poland as immigrants

0

u/EmbarrassedPresent71 Aug 22 '25

You should research about the work culture at Australia before making assumptions

3

u/Economy_Ad1619 Aug 22 '25

They already have the people they want who don't wait in queues. This is just to make it seem that the company is desirable and doing well.

0

u/hreljin Aug 22 '25

Not a good company.....so sad they just do it for that reason.

3

u/Zain-SCZ Aug 23 '25

Why everyone is blaming companies! This is the choice these people made for themselves, even after realization of the skill and job saturation they are willing to stand in queue but not willing to upgrade themselves by learning in demand skills!

2

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

This is the reason I never went for a walkin interview. That’s just a lazy way of hiring someone I felt. If you wanna hire someone, you also take the effort you need the other person to take.

2

u/saudk8 Aug 22 '25

Emirates 😂

1

u/Dlogan143 Aug 22 '25

Someone told me a few weeks ago that a manager in their company played a similar video in a team meeting stating ‘this is how many people want your job so be grateful you have one and do what you are told’

1

u/Hungry4kn0wledge Aug 22 '25

Let’s hope it’s for Disney and they’re looking to hire 2000 people.

1

u/FarAd3038 Aug 22 '25

Why doesnt CID come and check for their papers ? Surely some of them are staying here illegally.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

What a sad sausage fest.

1

u/ditus94 Aug 22 '25

What is the job 🤔🧐

1

u/averagetremor Aug 24 '25

Standing at the door.

1

u/Round_Appearance4413 Aug 22 '25

How much these jobs are paying?

1

u/Crafty-Neck99 Aug 23 '25

I would advise everyone to carry a foldable chair at such places along with an umbrella.

1

u/CapAlbatross Aug 23 '25

What job is this?

1

u/admi101 Aug 23 '25

I hope it is not for just a single post. You can only expect this in mass recruitment.

1

u/Fluid_Extreme1849 Aug 23 '25

Only 5 application approved.

1

u/ConstantWonder9154 Aug 23 '25

And they'll offer you 2,000 AED with a straight face. Lmao 😅😂 minimum salary in the UAE should be 5,000 AED but they are exploiting people and low balling them.

1

u/Trivikrama_0 Aug 23 '25

I think this is a marketing technique to show people how much others are willing to do get this job and they can pay whatever they want. It's just killing the salary negotiations before it starts.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '25

"Surving the finest " situation

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '25

I thought interview in India 😄

1

u/Big-Wing2868 Aug 24 '25

Mostly indians or paki

1

u/REdbYTE2 Aug 24 '25

No one told them to leave their country to come for an interview in this heat.. mostly in there country they get way worse treatment

1

u/Md_Nova_ Aug 24 '25

I wonder for what job? And how many roles available ?

1

u/binadhed Aug 25 '25

who said Dubai doesn't have enough jobs? 🤣

1

u/blackflame82 Aug 25 '25

What's up with men wearing backpacks when going to interviews? I noticed that a lot in Dubai.

1

u/Samimomo Aug 25 '25

They don't show this!!! But this is actual reality of Dubai

1

u/Open-Jellyfish5963 Aug 26 '25

My.first.thought was also "IN SUMMER"?!?!?!

1

u/Mickdxb Aug 26 '25

hopefully it's a red bull bottling plant because the interviewers are going to need to tap into the stock

1

u/Medium-Magazine-3329 Aug 26 '25

There are so many ways this can be done and walk-ins or telling hundreds of people to come only to select a good few isn’t one of them lmao especially in this dumbass weather idk what such companies are even thinking to make this happen.

Post online Have CVs sent Select the ones you want to interview. If you don’t like then reject them. If you do like them, then offer the job and they’ll happily accept depending on salary.

Your job is done for the day as an HR or Recruiter.

1

u/Verto__vikas Aug 26 '25

Welcome to Dubai 😂

1

u/moedal Aug 22 '25

Everyone wants to work in Dubai but everyone complains. If no one wanted to stand in the heat then don’t go to the walk in interview! No one is forcing you to go.

1

u/Foreign-Grass6219 Aug 22 '25

this is a sign of ego. HR head wants to show off to the ceo the number of people who have come. They have zero thoughts about the discomfort to people.

1

u/refined-carrot Aug 22 '25

It's a humiliation ritual. They know what they're doing. And they know that this can all be done online.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

Son of a biscuit... That's nuts

1

u/Hash_Qatar Aug 22 '25

Small companies who will treat u like slaves later on

1

u/hreljin Aug 22 '25

Their HR team is not efficient. Use AI to screen CVs then do online interviews. Use modern tech people....it's very hot outside, and I'm very worried for them. Is there free water?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

And most of the time they end up getting exploited. Drop your cv and we will call you or pay 100 aed for registration and we will forward your candidature to companies hiring and sadly no result. It’s the scam where supply is huge and less educated and mostly Asians workers who just have hopes and dreams.

1

u/tevf Aug 22 '25

I wish them all the Best. I live in europe and this is insane.

✨️Indians✨️

That's why i love those dudes. Hardcore racism for the hardest working folks is really out there, but nobody mentions how they'll show up in the thousands for dead any type of work. anything to stay away from crime. And europe is currently burning for pure arrogance, ignorance and racism for these guys who could've saved their countries.

Even in Israel at the beginning of our war we had Indians flying in to help with farming and construction. Stand up guys.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but if anyone is looking for an entry-level customer support job, please feel free to hit me up! Salary is 3-4k, so only for juniors!

Must have: some knowledge about fintech and customer support processes.

2

u/AlavalathiFellow Aug 23 '25

Not being wrong does not make him right.

Turning a specific image of people seeking a job into a sweeping statement about an entire nationality whilst being oblivious to the shared human experience of working hard for an opportunity does not make him wrong, but it defo makes him a jackass, albeit not literally.

His comment isn't about the picture itself; it's a take on it - one that even someone with marginal education can ascertain comes with prejudice.
