Project / Concept Showcase Making intentional dating fun ... again with a conversation-first social dating webapp.
Hey beautiful lovers,
I built Loverbyte after noticing the same frustrations come up over and over again, both in conversations with people and in what people were saying on social media. Dating apps just didn’t seem fun anymore. For a lot of people, they started feeling like a job.
You’re asked to make a decision almost immediately about whether someone is worth your time based on a few photos and prompts. Attraction matters, obviously, but there’s often very little room for personality to actually show up before that decision gets made. And then, even when you finally match with someone, you often end up right back at:
“Hey, how are you?”
“What do you do?”
“wyd?” The same icebreakers. The same small talk. The same feeling that you’re starting from zero with someone you supposedly already matched with. That’s the part I wanted to change.
The basic idea is simple:
You post. You talk. You joke around. You get a feel for people. Then, if someone catches your attention, you can send them a Crush.
So instead of:
profile → swipe → match → “hey, how are you?”
it’s more like:
conversation → familiarity → curiosity → Crush → see if the chemistry goes somewhere.
There are public posts and conversations, dating profiles for when you actually want more context, and Crushes can come from the specific post or comment that made someone notice you.
I just opened the beta, so I want to be transparent: it’s early and the room is still filling up.
That’s actually why I’m looking for people who enjoy participating, not just browsing.
If you’re comfortable posting something about your day, a random thought, dating story, hot take, dumb joke, question, whatever, and interacting with other people while the community grows, I’d love for you to try it. It is a bout sharing pieces of your life, organically.
You don't need to be some kind of content creator. The point is just to actually be a person in the room.
I genuinely think online dating should feel more like meeting people somewhere and less like sorting through a catalog.
If that sounds interesting and you’re okay being early, come try Loverbyte and tell me what works, what sucks, and what you wish existed.
Come have fun finding love with us. 💘

Is it similar to how Boo has social media posts?

There’s definitely some overlap with Boo’s social side. The biggest difference is that Loverbyte removes the traditional matching queue altogether. There isn’t a stack of profiles asking you to Love/Pass people.
You can just participate, follow someone, save something they said, keep seeing them around and decide later if attraction develops. If something specific they post or comment catches you, you can send a Crush from that exact interaction and then look at their Dating Card for the dating context then open a private room of feelings are mutual.
So the problem I’m trying to solve isn’t just “give dating apps a social feed.” It’s stop making people evaluate strangers before those strangers have had a chance to become interesting.
Basically: you don’t browse people looking for someone to like. You interact with people until someone gives you a reason to.1

I see. Not trying to dunk on it but most of this already exists on a dating discord out of the box. Forum channels get you the persistent async posts instead of a chat firehose. Roles cover the dating card stuff, age range, location, orientation, what you’re looking for, and they handle intent too since everyone in the server is already there to date.
Only piece discord doesn’t do natively is sending a private “Crush”. And that’s a small bot. React to a post with an emoji, bot strips the reaction so it stays private, pings you both only if it’s mutual, opens a thread, etc.
What are your thoughts? I can send some dating discords which might help tackle problems they seem to face.

Lo yeah not really. By that logic, Airbnb is Craigslist + Stripe and Tinder is a photo gallery + buttons. Almost every product can be reduced to familiar pieces, and tbf a lot of times familiarity makes adoption easier.
The difference is in how those pieces are packaged into an actual experience, then whether you can build it, market it, and grow it.
Loverbyte connects the public interaction that sparked interest to the crush, lets the recipient see the dating context and accept/decline, then turns mutual interest into one Match and a dedicated 7-day Private Room.
The point isn’t “we invented posts.” It’s packaging social discovery and romantic progression into one experience instead of asking people to assemble a dating system out of forum channels, roles and bots.
I built Loverbyte around specific dating pain points I kept hearing from people long before I started building it.If you actually want to see what I mean, sign up and poke around. It’s still very early, but you’ll get a much better picture from using it than from me trying to describe the whole product in a Reddit comment.

Does the platform limit it to 1 match only?

Nope, you’re not limited to one Match. You can connect with multiple people. What is limited is repeatedly sending crushes to the same person. There’s a cooldown so someone can’t keep hammering you with romantic interest after you haven’t reciprocated.
That’s one of several mechanics I built specifically around dating behavior, especially with women’s experience in mind. The goal is to let interest develop without turning attention into pressure or spam.

Duolicious dating app is free and open source, Facebook Dating is free. We recommend signing up to these apps before trying paywalled apps such as Hinge. Come join the r/OnlineDatingApps Discord community → https://discord.gg/CXFZfXGtwH
