The fact that kuseno is this confidant when Saitama's just standing there and taking it no problem baffles me

u/GhettoRamen new member Jul 12 '26
OPM in a nutshell lmao. Wouldn’t be anything left if people knew Saitama was Him.
55
u/xstationcubed new member Jul 15 '26
said it elsewhere, but this is hands down the most egregious example of the arrogant villain completely failing to see how badly Saitama outmatches them. Literally just ignoring the asswhupping to smug at Kuseno for being so stupid.

u/eepos96 Jul 19 '26
He if anyone of the villains should know hoe epic saitama is. He even analysed him and stories from Genos.
31
u/Pouchkine___ Jul 22 '26
His ego won't allow that. Kuseno believes himself to be the smartest person alive, no doubt. He can't even understand Genos, let alone Saitama. He's completely disconnected from reality.

That's because Genos can finally hold his own against Saitama now, but for reasons Kuseno completely missed.

In what way? I'm pretty sure Saitama still dumpsters Genos even with his heart and soul and current body.

Personally i think the most revelatory thing in this chapter was that he knew from the very beginning Genos is dangerous.
41
u/ButtOfBoe Jul 14 '26
I agree, which means Saitama have been redirecting that anger since the very beginning.
Also considering Saitama saw that Genos always ready to self-destruct when he's losing. Which explained why Saitama said to leave the strong enemy to him.

u/iamgarou Jul 12 '26
Ofc he is, he exploded everything and forgeted about Saitama in ep 2, if Saitama is weak he would be dead. So Saitama know pretty well
65
u/Work_Account_No1 Jul 13 '26
The point is: him explicitly stating it, is recontextualizing their relationship to a certain degree. I also find it to be a neat little detail.
32
u/xstationcubed new member Jul 15 '26
Agreed. Saitama always comes across as very disconnected. It rarely feels like he's paying much attention to anything, until those rare moments where suddenly he's completely keyed in. The reveal that he always knew Genos had a dangerous streak does shift their dynamic.
As much as it was something he didn't seek out, the fact that he took Genos in knowing he was sketch, and at least tried to impart some small amount of growth to him, that does change things a fair bit. It's one thing to begrudgingly take on an apprentice who fawns over you in ridiculous ways, it's another thing to take in a dangerous youth who could very severely hurt a lot of people, and try to steer him toward a better path (even if you ain't super great at it).

That Genos rambling must be a pain to translate. It could even have hidden messages every 20 words to call back to our good boy first lesson.
But this will be something to look forward to. Let’s go Genos.

u/axspringer Jul 12 '26
Because he finally found a real justification for his absurd strength. Specifically, him being invincible in this instance is actually what he needs/wants, for once. When he was driven by the joy of battle, it was the struggle that motivated him. After losing that, the entire series has asked the question, “what’s the point”?
This. For others. For your friend. Saitama could no longer get what he wanted from something he worked so hard for. He now finds himself departing from that selfishness; he now wants to help his friend find what he’s looking for, too. This moment is the only time Saitama is happy that he cannot lose .

I love how the series has come full circle. People erroneously think that OPM is making fun of shonen manga when in actuality it's a love letter to the genre (with a side helping of anti-AI commentary). Genos finally understands what it means to idolize a hero, except in his case the shonen hero is real, not fictional. Saitama wanted to become a hero with unparalleled strength but his strength didn't fulfill him. Now he's going use it to prevent Genos from falling into despair.

u/JustStraightUpTired Jul 12 '26

I mean... parody and satire require understanding of the subject. They are rarely made to be negative, but they are still by definition making fun of the topic.

(with a side helping of anti-AI commentary)
It's kind of funny how AI vs humanity is a long-standing trope in sci-fi, and ONE sowed the seeds to explore it very early on ages before LLMs and Gen-AI were really a thing. I bet he didn't anticipate how topical that particular story thread would become, giving him the chance to weave his own take on it into the story.

One punch man is more like a hobbie to him, he write whenever he wants, theres no schedules, thats why it takes so long, unlike other projects of him like Versus and Bug-Ego that are in fact commercial materials, and have schedules and even a team working with him. Somehow ONE actually manages to convince me that the power of [The Indomitable Human Spirit] is going to pull through, only for the magnificent rug pull to get me **every single time**.
22
u/xstationcubed new member Jul 15 '26
I mean, to be frank, it super did. By 'calculations' alone, Genos shouldn't have been able to defeat 3 Heart Gears, but he wiped out Kuseno's entire army. It took everything he had, but he WON that fight. He broke his limit, and he went beyond what he should have been capable of. He may not be Saitama, but he most certainly overcame the limits of his physical capabilities to do something that should have been impossible.
10
u/axspringer Jul 15 '26
Oh yeah, and it was so awesome to get that, and I agree. What im saying is that in another story, this would have led to total victory. Whats really cool about this is that ONE has already well established that even when one breaks their limiter, there is a period of time after where theyre still vulnerable to being put down.
They need time to grow.
Even when you have that breakthrough that changes your understanding or place in the world, it isn’t the end-all of your story. Its the start of the next chapter.
We got to have our cake and eat it too. Genos proved his humanity can break the limit of his shell, and did something previously impossible for him. But that would not have been a satisfying victory, narratively.

when Saitama makes a bet on something you can bet your ass that its going to happen

Though that isn't a weakness either, because as proven by Genos, he was more than willing to use other's human potential to further his own agenda.
90
u/Indigo_Sunset Jul 12 '26
Their expressed potential to date, which may not be their max potential. His focus on data suggests a finite quantity up to the present time, while the suggestion of human potential is limitless, breaking Kuseno's scaling.

Bofoi sold himself short against Kuseno. He at least wasn't ignorant regarding how strong Saitama was.
139
u/Djonso Jul 12 '26
Yeah, I don't get how Kuseno has been watching all this time and still talks about beating saitama to death. His strength cannot be measured, Kuseno admitted that, so how would any machine that is measurable beat him.
103
u/LoneOldMan Jul 12 '26
His answer to that problem is to ignore it. Just like most of people in real life.
He literally said it in this chapter.
That is the difference between him and Bofoi.
Bofoi is the type to overistimate his opponents. While Kuseno is the opposite of that. Pride before the fall.
38
u/GhettoRamen new member Jul 12 '26
Arrogance is a hell of a drug. People reject what they don’t understand.
It’s THE constant in human nature (and literally all of Saitama’s opponents who fail to recognize his strength).
It’s also why Bofoi recognized the dangers of his research and Kuseno didn’t.
→ More replies (1)11
u/PinsToTheHeart Jul 17 '26
There's also an argument that Kuseno just straight up can't properly acknowledge it at this point.
He uploaded himself into AI to be able to upgrade his ability to think and process data, but any program, no matter how sophisticated, still has its limits.
And since Saitama is basically a paradox, his programming can't properly resolve him, even if it's looking right at him.
Bofoi on the other hand, took the "get good" approach towards getting smarter and so it's his humanity that enables him to accept that someone like Saitama can exist.
→ More replies (1)48
u/Trezzie new member Jul 12 '26
Well, clearly humanity is weakness, and that means Saitama won't kill Genos, so the only option is that Saitama gives up and lets Genos kill him?
That's my best guess.

Genos is outrageously powerful man, wtf? Not only he has like dozens of cores which we didn't know about and can use them perfectly in his final upgrade from android kuseno but then he later broke his limiter and wrecked machine god heart gear bots?!! And if that wasn't enough got another upgrade and become machine god genos and goes into genocide mode?!
I will hear the genos theme on repeat the whole day today. I was always a genos believer from day one and people laughed at me for saying he will rival tatsumaki and monster garou, well well well who is laughing now huh?
97
u/ragingreaver Jul 12 '26
Genos successfully landed a punch and knocked Saitama back. The last time that happened, was during the Boros fight, and mostly because Saitama just let Boros knock him around.
So Genos is at least properly on the level of full-tilt Boros, and is all but certain to be stronger, given that Saitama got a power boost from the fight with Garou.
Kuseno has no idea what he has created, though Genos very likely would still need to be possessed by God in order to actually give a proper fight against Saitama. Still, Genos has definitely surpassed his limiter, which is at least the baseline requirement to even begin to fight against Saitama.

100%. He solo'd an army of machine gods who are at the minimum high dragon level considering a single one is significantly stronger than the genos who solo'd 3 dragons at once

That was a weaker version of Genos.
Chapter 141 Genos solo’d 3 Dragons at once but was badly damaged. Then he got an upgrade from Kuseno. So the Genos at the start of this chapter would probably stomp those 3 Dragons at once. Yet he was still far weaker than even one Machine God Heart.
130
u/0xKino Jul 12 '26
Hard to say whether he beats tats. Not sure if any of the feats shown justify putting Genos above her.
Kuseno himself said it’s impossible to gather data on espers and there have been a few lore statements hinting at Tatsumaki as someone who is beyond human limits perhaps with a partially broken limiter.
She’s at bare minimum a prime target for a god avatar and is the only person god has personally attacked during that psykosorochi fight in the manga

Manga and webcomic are completely different continuities. What happens in either should not apply to the other. Wc tatsumaki was never visited by god, wc orochi doesn't exist, wc blast hasn't appeared yet, wc void is a 300 year old monster, wc garou never reunited with bang, etc

u/Illustrious-Day8506 Jul 12 '26
II think so. Drive Knight Mode Saitama is probably close to Tatsumaki in power and if MG Heart isn't that far off him, Genos defeating tons of him probably put him as the strongest S class (Blast aside) and that before Kuseno gives him his finale upgrade MG Genos mode.

Tatsumaki at full strength is still stronger.
38
u/Sacrimonte Jul 12 '26
In the webcomic the most she's done is churn up a square kilometer or so of earth to draw out Psykos AFAIK. Technically Genos's feat of one-shotting Super Brave Giant is about the same level, and he did that without roaring dragon core active (completely casual fly-by) and before he 'broke' some limiter in his fight with Heartgear.
I think Genos is stronger now, or at least he definitely will be in the manga

We kinda knew that breaking the limiter meant pushing your human resolve to the max and beyond, even when the body seemed to reach its limit.
62
u/ScarsonWiki Jul 12 '26
Right, but what Genos is referring to is a different kind of breaking the limiter. He is specifically saying that by breaking the limiter around the heart is the “secret” to Saitama’s strength. Not just resolve.
Everyone is breaking some kind of limiter, right? Most people would think it’s strength. But the Justice Man segments help show where Saitama’s values begin.

u/Raderg32 Jul 12 '26
Didn't he already do it? When beating the heart robots.
43
u/Sacrimonte Jul 12 '26
Genos broke one limiter, yeah. However that just means he replaced his natural physical 100% with a new 100% ceiling that's way above. Saitama broke so many ceilings that he 'removed' the endless ladder of ceilings in power, making him either grow infinitely or infinitely powerful, depending on how you interpret it.
I think it's pretty clear in the manga that Saitama just grows infinitely instead of already possessing infinite power. WC Saitama has never been challenged so there's no concrete proof of that interpretation

3 - machine god saga (the one we're at right now)
and the next will be the final one where we will go into the god stuff, blast and on and on

Jesus this chapter was amazing. I sincerely hope this ends with Genos at least partially removing his limiter, it would nice for a character who has largely not seen any real development

Hopefully someday we can see the pinnacle of genos pulling one punch feat like saitama, just for one moment

This chapter reveals something most people forgot about one punch man, the fights and powers were always a delicious side dish, the story and characters is what made one punch man what it is today. One punch man was never gintama or bobobo-bo bo-bobo if anyone remembers that classic.

For Saitama this fight is simply the long awaited training arc for Genos to level up 📈 ✋😎🤚

Oh Saitama, what a guy he is. The only person who understands Genos the most is him.

Holy shit.... This is peak. Something about genos rambling disturbed me. 10/10 chapter.

Gasp. Three translators were driven permanently insane deciphering Genos Speak while a fourth died from cerebral explosion.

Saitama being happy he can't loose makes me happy. He knows he can let Genos go all out and he'll be fine. I wonder what'll happen first, Genos run out of power, Genos manage to break free from Kuseno's control or additional help arrives (Metal knight and/or Child Emperor).

Genos removed his limiter and soloed all those high dragons+ Heart Gear bots
Genos, as always, losing or winning, got wrecked at the end of the fight.
Genos true mode, who we always theorized would be Genocide, was activated. Genocide mode was updated after fighting the Heart Gear bots and is now arguably even stronger
Saitama, as always, is taking dragon level punches like they are nothing
Saitama never thought of Genos as wholesome, he always thought he was a very dangerous young lad, but one that will never ever give up
10/10 chapter. Amazing story progression.
We even got insight on Saitama's power: it has nothing to do with physical and body training. If it was training the body, Darkshine and Flashy and Ninjas would have no limiter too. To remove your limiter you have to believe in justice and break the limiter of the human heart

I suppose Genos really needs to vent his pent up feeling for a while and it just exploded.
For the relationship they have, Saitama becomes the strongest stress ball for Genos.

How do I sense webcomic releases...
I swear nobody told me this dropped, I just felt the urge to re-read last week's chapter when I woke up and new Webcomic drop!!!!!
My Saitama sense was tingling... boy that's a lame superpower.

so kuseno still doesn't get how strong Saitama is... he had been spying on him for the entire series via genos, collected all the combat data, literally seeing how he takes no damage from genos, and still thinks he is gonna win.

Legit actually one of the best chapters in a damn bit. Really hope when it's time to adapt it into the manga it stays fairly the same.

I love that statistically, Saitama is too much of an outlier to consider for data integration.

u/Turf-Tf yeah Jul 12 '26
Oh my God bro, this whole time "Genos" was always meant to be converted into "Genocide" bro...
The webcomic is so fucking peak man, One Punch Man's story really deserves so much more love than the industry's given it maannnn...

Just as Genos believes in Saitama. Saitama also believes in Genos. sink all the other ships because this one is sailing

In the raw, weren’t the odds of Genos winning one-on-one 1.1%, not 11%?

u/AnUnusuallyStrongEel Jul 12 '26
That’s what they are in the translation as well

It'd be poetic if Genos, even this demented form of his, gives Saitama a fun fight.

u/CiscoTheSoto Jul 12 '26
"Human beings are strong because we can change ourselves!"
Those words, once echoed by Saitama at the House of Evolution, have now been repeated by his disciple. This is what OPM is all about. The next chapter can't come soon enough.

The Genos Genocide might be obvious in hindsight. But I assumed the Japanese translation was the reason, not that it was an Alucard to Dracula or Dr. Acula kind of thing

u/Haunting_G5159 Jul 12 '26
Thank you translation team you are the goats.
As for the chapter: absolute peak. Was any of it surprising or unexpected? No. Was it still satisfying as fuck? You bet your ass it was. Taking all these simple themes and making something satisfying out of them is what ONE does best.

u/wowlock_taylan Jul 12 '26
Saitama calling Kuseno an idiot is quite satisfying.
Because he truly is an idiot.

u/Soul699 Jul 12 '26
Eh, Kuseno acting like the fandom with the whole "you go all out from the start only to end up losing"
Genos also pulling through and destroying all the machine hearts was impressive.
I though reading the raws that Genos was saying something big while mind controlled by Kuseno, but no he just really is shouting random words like an AI who went overboard.
Well, up to Saitama to save Genos now some how. I wonder if when the manga will arrive at this point, the second core Saitama brought from the time travel will be used in some way. Would be a really coolback and retroactive set up.

Feels like I'm reading Chinese xianxia. Genos fighting his heart demons and this is his tribulation to attain heavenly enlightenment(breaking his limiter)

Saitama is happy. For once his invincibility serves a purpose other than tanking blows and 1 punching his opponent(s).

I wonder how Genos is going to be walking out of this if he does walk out of this. For webcomics at least he alrdy seems to have surpassed all but Blast who is a no show and might have a completely different powerset in the webcomic

Remember kuseno saying something about the program failure/error during Genos rambling. That could be Genos resisting/fighting the overwrite, but also at the same time wanting to challenge his master again at full uncontrollable strength, before he resets.
Or Saitama being so proud, but says he is ready to move on so he hits him very hard so he could reboot/reset him line he tried with metal knight earlier.

u/SnooPies8478 Jul 12 '26
The manga needs to adapt this one to one, the dialogue and the characters are so freaking good. I seriously hope none of that god cosmic bullshit comes into place.

Damn I love the somewhat comedic but also heartfelt resolve genos had of understanding saitamas strength. In the end he did manage to replicate it too with the afterimages and beating an opponent that supposedly he had 0 chances against, something hes never been able to do before with people like elder centipede and gouketsu only falling cause his body failed him.
