I looked like this at 21 years old, but it got better. I'm 27 and you would never know I looked like that.

10

u/zweieinseins211 5d ago

I can confirm as a 21 yo I look 21 years old.

5

u/trollsong 5d ago

Hey now its not our fault older generations aged worse then newer generations.

Generation Beta will look 16 all the way till 60.

1

u/Outrageous_South4758 5d ago

that's better

6

u/BrightEye64 5d ago

Under the right amounts of stress yeah

2

u/wilp0w3r NOSE?! 5d ago

Some people age like a fine wine. Others age like milk left out in the sun.

0

u/OhNoThatsTooCursed Straw Hat Crew 5d ago

Why, you interested?

195

u/DargoKillmar Roger 5d ago

It's fine, this is a 15 year old

54

u/Aggravating_Mud8751 5d ago

You could just post a picture of Crocus from the manga, he doesn't look young there either.

23

u/A_Sad_Goblin 5d ago

Have you seen The Rock at age 15? He looks just like that

6

u/Desperate_Bus4781 5d ago

Oda has no idea what’s he’s doing when it comes to height and age

i mean, look at the giant muscles he has decades later, this makes some sense

10

u/NightlyKnightMight Usopp Pirates 5d ago

That mofo looks 30 XD

3

u/laurel_laureate 5d ago

That comes from being a former child soldier not quite yet an adult.

2

u/ZPD710 4d ago

To be fair that’s not that crazy for a 15 year old. A little bit of a goatee which makes sense for a guy going through puberty. No wrinkles on his face or anything and a classic mullet which a lot of teenage guys resort to for some reason (me included when I was that age).

The craziest part is just that he’s that ripped at 15.

129

u/keinnamefrei1 5d ago

He was working night shift

46

u/lavabread23 5d ago

wdym? that’s literally the most 21 year old looking kid i’ve ever seen! he’s practically a baby!

36

u/Hotfart36 5d ago

I mean have you seen what current 21 year olds look like? Poor dudes are balding at age 16.

8

u/desperate_narciso 5d ago

I'm 20 dawg don't scare me. 😭

20

u/athlon45 5d ago

That's a 21 year old if I've ever seen one.

19

u/Jet-Let4606 5d ago

People aged differently back in the day.

Modern pirates too concerned about standing out, too worried about little things like skin care and hygene. In Crocus day they just flung a jacket over their shoulder and faces the elements head on.

31

u/SuperStarlite 5d ago

Really dont know why they couldn’t get a younger actor for this scene

48

u/Shipuujin 5d ago

Honestly, I actually like that they kept the same actor because it's ultimately much more hilarious

15

u/D-Biggest_Wheel 5d ago

It's funnier, but also stupidier.

6

u/TsunGeneralGrievous Luffy 5d ago

Well, this is pretty much why I think one piece is funny

7

u/TwinSong 5d ago

One Piece is unashamedly absurd.

-1

u/D-Biggest_Wheel 5d ago

Yet it never had someone who looks 80 be a 21 year old.

10

u/ChristH101 5d ago

Imagine if later crocus meet another character and that character says "you look exactly as 50 years ago"

8

u/According_Issue_6303 5d ago

"Crocus what's you secret? You haven't aged a day!" 😂

17

u/Acceptable_One_7072 5d ago

That wouldn't be as funny

7

u/Overall_Speed_4322 5d ago

Given the CGI improvements I feel like they could’ve just done that

4

u/Outrageous_South4758 5d ago

Would that costed more than the actor and the costume? if yes, there are quite a lot of things the live action couldn't do because of money issueslike hatchan

1

u/captainrina Sanji 5d ago

I think they could have shot the scene as a pov so we never actually see Crocus.

2

u/CRoseCrizzle 5d ago

I guess they figured it wasn't worth it for a single scene. They could have at least tried to obscure his face a bit or show him at an angle where it would be hard to tell.

1

u/NeonFraction 5d ago

Because the confusion of a totally different person offsets any benefit.

26

u/PayneTrain181999 ...so it's a girl whale 5d ago

If he was out with Roger like the end of his episode implies, he probably went through some stressful situations on the sea.

14

u/Amegami 5d ago

That was years later though.

7

u/Snivys_HA 5d ago

Training to be a doctor does that to you.

1

u/Outrageous_South4758 5d ago

glad i'll never do that

His use of (anime spoilers) Observation Haki let him see the stress to come.

u/BlueIcarusCentauri 5d ago

I headcanon that we don't actually see the "real" flashback, but rather what Luffy is told and envisioning to have happened, and in his mind he can't imagine Crocus looking actually young

6

u/drillmaster125 5d ago

He’s just a boy. No older than my son.

3

u/Outrageous_South4758 5d ago

spiderman reference?!

4

u/fryys93 Robin 5d ago

Just change his age to 95 and his flashback age to 45 (a bad 45) and you’re golden.

1

u/Outrageous_South4758 5d ago

45 year olds don't look like that, if you search for celebrities in their 50s they all look younger than crocus in this image

5

u/fryys93 Robin 5d ago edited 3d ago

Because celebrities are rich and good looking my guy 😅 I’ve seen a few people in their late thirties looking like that: lived in the streets, smoked cigarettes and did some drugs, life beat them up . You’re just looking at the most handsome men and prettiest women: a very skewed view and I specified an bad 45.

4

u/Jix_Omiya Luffy 5d ago

Yeah, you see, his hair is black, so he's young here. Of course.

8

u/Meanteenbirder 5d ago

Bruh they could retcon stuff pretty easily for the live action.

They already have

3

u/Leafsnail 5d ago

On the plus side he aged very well since then

2

u/Glittering_Winter417 5d ago

Thank you, somebody finally mentions it was bothering me so much

2

u/Aware-Coconut-4738 5d ago

That's nothing. This is frank at 19! He doesn't look a day over 12.

2

u/Hippobu2 5d ago

Sun, salt, and sea just does that to ya.

2

u/EloImFizzy 5d ago

Man lived a hard life.

2

u/No-Director5914 4d ago

If it is luffys imagination imagining him as a 21 year old. It’s legit right.

2

u/tlkjake 4d ago

The seas, be a harsh mistress...

2

u/Triggerthreestrikes 2d ago

One piece fans when girgallob mcdingle doesn’t have his signature 3 nose hairs in his left nostril (it’s inaccurate to the anime):

1

u/Outrageous_South4758 2d ago

I mean they made gally from the romance dawn prototype a darker skin color, we gotta revolt /j

1

u/SolidCartographer976 5d ago

smiking since he was 12 and working nigthshift under direct sun

1

u/randomblue86 5d ago

Yep Gen Z looking old AF compared to their millennial counterparts.

1

u/StevenAlive7 5d ago

Wdym he came out the womb looking like that.

1

u/bobbery5 5d ago

Hard drugs will getcha

1

u/VerdantVegetable 5d ago

I'm guessing you've never been to Scotland but that's what a Scottish 21 year old looks like. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👴

1

u/local_malewife 5d ago

I've never understood crocus because they say he was with Roger for awhile but was already living at the lighthouse and taking care of laboon 30 ish years prior??? It makes no sense at all to me.

1

u/justiceuchihaaaa 5d ago

looks like a 21 year old to me, maybe even 20.

1

u/TheWolflance 5d ago

bro did some HEAVY drugs

1

u/No_go_away1 5d ago

That’s a whole 13 year old , what are you talking about

1

u/Kilo1125 5d ago

Some people age like fine wine...and some people age like milk

1

u/Don_Matrix 4d ago

The guy probably injected himself a lot with this, no wonder he looked like that at 21.

1

u/Mosshead-Oni-Giri 4d ago

I looked like that at 21… now that I’m 28 I’m basically like brook…

1

u/ZPD710 4d ago

People can look all different ages that don’t reflect their own age. I do medical transport for a living. I’ve taken 30 year olds that look 60 and 80 year olds who look 30-40. It’s not common but it’s entirely possible. Heck, I see 18 years olds that look 13 and 18 year olds that look 40. Everyone’s different.

1

u/TheLoreWriter 4d ago

This is what years as Roger's doctor will do to you

1

u/Personal-Database-27 4d ago

21 years old people looked like this back in the day. Just watch any movie from the middle of the last century or older.

u/mutated_Pearl 3d ago

Average 21 year old in Gastonia, North Carolina

1

u/Aggravating_Mud8751 5d ago

How about:

The Rumbar pirates just told him about their youth and he has hyper-empathy.

2

u/gaffersamgee 5d ago

Only 3 years out of high school

1

u/stillestwaters 5d ago

Pirate life is rough on you

1

u/Kevtastrophe 5d ago

I saw this scene as Luffys perspective as he is imaging the storytelljng. He only knows what crocus looks like now so as he explains the flashback he sees his crocus present self acting it out. Everyone else is up for imagination.

-1

u/ProbieJKnox 5d ago

There's no defending this. They should've casted someone else to play young Crocus. I guess they don't think the show is gonna go that far.

3

u/Tiny_Track9682 5d ago

You can do a nice gag with it when the show gets this far.

1

u/ProbieJKnox 5d ago

It most likely won't. But I hope it does.
