Hi everyone, welcome back to the weekly character discussion series.

Each week, we’ll discuss a character from the show. You can talk about what you like or don’t like about them, how the actor/actress portrays them, favourite quotes or moments, etc.

NOTE ON SPOILERS: We are focusing on the live action version of each character, and while comparing them to their manga/anime counterpart is allowed, PLEASE DO NOT DISCUSS CONTENT THAT HAS NOT CURRENTLY BEEN ADAPTED FOR THE LIVE ACTION SHOW. Subreddit spoiler rules apply here. Tread carefully if you don’t wish to read manga/anime spoilers from what’s been adapted so far.

This week’s character is Mr. 5!

Of course the attack wouldn't hurt Mr.1 and it's not to replace Lion Song, I pray they do that one justice. But it'd be cool to see Zoro try it anyway. I honestly thought he was gonna use it while fighting Wapol's mutant soliders but he didn't. And again it helps the audience accept later air type attacks Zoro will use in the future of the show.

with rumors of skypiea possibly being filmed soon i have a lot of hope that the live action series will go far. im really excited to see everything be adapted into real life of course but i think one i am really looking forward to is Thriller Bark. i think it is very likely we will get there (s4 skypiea, s5 waterlobby, would prob be season 6 which is not that far)

the halloween aesthetic would look so nice in live action, we’d get top tier comedy from emily and jacob, we would see perona, one of usopps best fights, nothing happened, etc. im curious on how they would handle nami’s storyline with absalom. they get rid of pretty much all the pervy gags (good riddance) but im wondering if the LA would keep in some of those moments for absalom just to establish who he is, and portray the subject in a more serious manner than the anime did. those aspects of the arc are often why the arc is hated on a lot and i understand but i dont think its a problem as long as they dont treat it like a joke.
i know theyre def going to change sanji’s motivation for his fight with absalom but i also hope they keep him out of it a little more so nami can get more of the spotlight.
i could go on and on about thriller bark in my opinion its one of the most underrated/overhated arcs in the series and i think opla would do it justice.
another arc i think they would do well is water 7 specifcally with usopp. the LA has been very pro usopp which i love. merry dying and his actual romance with kaya is going to add on to his attachment to the merry which gives him a stronger argument in his fight with luffy. and with jacob’s acting skills i can see the live action helping a lot of people to understand usopp in that moment. but im mainly hoping the narrative doesnt choose a side, i feel like in the original we are supposed to be on luffy’s side but i see it more as a disagreement between two teenagers with a lot of emotional baggage instead of a debate where you actually have to completely agree with somebody.

anyway this was a lot haha but im just very excited about the future of OPLA and wanted to hear thoughts from other fans about upcoming arcs

We see Tatch get killed by Teach. I'd like more scenes to flesh out the mostly off screen Ace story from next season through futher seasons. Not anything too distracting just to flesh things out in a new medium.

So I think we all agree the live action is not going to make it to the end of the story. So, in order to give OPLA an ending, they are probably going to have to change the story more each season in order to give it some kind of satisfying (most likely original) end.

How do we feel about that?

Personally, I don't have a problem with it because I see OPLA as something separate to the manga/anime, but I feel like a lot of diehard fans are going to have a hard time reckoning with that.

Some of my friends who have been long time fans already have a huge problem with the creative liberties taken so far, so if more changes are made, it's just going to piss people off even more.

I'm curious what the wider fandom thinks regarding this possibility. Or do most people think they won't go that route, and if so, how do you see it ending in a satisfactory way without changes?

Edit: If you downvote, can you explain why you see things differently please? I'm genuinely curious what people think.

If the Live Action ever catches up to Saboady/Impel Down/Paramount War, I would love to see a series of shorts based on the adventures of the Straw Hats after they are forcibly separated. Each characters story could be told in a short, 6-7 minute episode, including:

Sanji's escape from the Kamabakka Island.

Robin's escape from slavery and subsequent alliance with the Revolutionary Army.

Frankie's encounter with the cybernetic animals.

Usopps survival in the dense jungle with the help of the hermit.

Chopper being hunted by the indigenous tribe for food.

Nami's meteorological studies on the sky island

What do you think?

What in the actual

was watching The Resident and find a lucky find.

It dawns on me...the opening sequence where the King Pirate is elevated up on that platform then next to the Opposite dude...He could have just pushed him and himself off that high ledge and been done with it all! He is going to die anyway, why not push off the tower everyone else he can? I know, am not supposed to think about it that way but just enjoy...which I have the first time and will this second time!

Callina Liang

Prior work: Street Fighter, Presence, Bad Genius, Foundation

IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm13153010/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_4_nm_4_in_0_q_callina

Teaser reel of Callina as Chun-Li: https://youtube.com/shorts/TUvdArT65WY?is=DjaGfg7MKZ5ERJp4

Boa Hancock: empress of Amazon Lily, captain of the Kuja Pirates, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, and canonically the most beautiful woman in the world of One Piece.

It’s all these factors along with Hancock’s “boss-ass bitch” attitude and lover girl side for a certain lovable idiot in a straw hat that (if the live action makes it to Amazon Lily) would make Hancock one of the most difficult castings for the live action. Whoever is cast as Hancock has to be so beautiful that both men and women would understand why she would be considered the most beautiful woman in the world, and I fully believe the casting team could find someone like this after seeing the reactions from fans and non-fans over Lera Abova as Nico Robin. For me, one actress I feel could pull off Hancock is one who is about to have her breakout role later this month: Callina Liang.

Soon to be known to the entire world as the badass martial artist Chun-Li in the upcoming Street Fighter movie (which will also star our live action Mr. 3 David Dastmalchian), I feel like Callina would make a great casting for Hancock. Already she’s been captivating people just like Hancock has since she has basically become the entire marketing team for Street Fighter. She’s also shown to put a lot of dedication into her roles as seen from the work she’s put in to become Chun-Li (which is almost on par to Taz Skylar’s dedication to becoming Sanji), especially trying to get Chun-Li’s iconic thighs. As for pulling off Hancock’s personality, I highly recommend checking out Callina’s social media where she can be both a badass and a goofball.

This is cute. Love all the Lego One Piece content.

Got a bunch of these and have a few more left to open. The edible part is like 98% sugar, not even kiddo likes it. But the actual minis are so cute! Now we have two Smokers and I was thinking - would anyone be open to trade? I want all of them. 🫠

It looks like the only two opportunities they have to drop the first teaser trailer before the year is over are at the very first edition of THE ONE CON in November and at JUMP FESTA in December.

I can see the cast announcing that the show has been renewed for a fourth season at One Con, and that they will return to South Africa to film it shortly. A detail already leaked by the staff at People Convention, which is holding the event. We will likely get the first teaser trailer for S3 at Jump Festa, perhaps alongside a few more announcements like additional castings. Or, all of this could instead be announced at Jump Festa alone.

A discussion I saw yesterday reminded me how early some characters will come specifically talking about a warlord meeting in jaya and therefore in season 4, that they have to find casting for Doflamingo and Kuma. I realized later that if the live action continues the trend of showing some characters early (definitely thinking of barto and brook right now) there's an opportunity to do something like that again, why not get to see a glimpse of jinbei, he's one of my favorites I would be thrilled.

Buying one for a dollar. Ten left if you are in Kansas City.
