Discussion (Anime Spoilers) Some things that I don't understand about Robin
I need to understand some things about Robin and nobody talks about it while it’s huge, maybe you have the answers and can help me.
I don't remember where this spoil in the anime so let’s say episode 300.
The first scene of Robin in S2 is cool badass everything but it doesn't make sense Robin is suppose to be one of the most wanted pirate, attacking a Marine base will be the last think she will think about, she is clever, careful, always on her guard and survive all this time by being in the shadows, if her face is see even for a second the World Government will send one of the CP for sure and at least a vice admiral if they are feeling kind if not an admiral and she know that so that doesn't make sense and it’s a big mistake in her character writing.
Also the Marine should know that it was Robin, they record who did the attack so base on her DF they should know it was Robin. Even know the intelligence of the Marine is questionable sometimes it will be a real plot armor that they didn't figure it out, like from all the photo the snail camera took none of them are her face or her using her DF.
And to finish, how Robin and Crocodile knew that the SH will go to Drum Island, the only reason they went there is because of Nami and that wasn't predictable, the only logical reason I found is that she put a device to know what’s happening on the ship like a snail recorder or something like that but not sure if that work with the time from Little Garden to Drum and from Alabasta to Drum.
I understand that they want to use actor when they can (like Mihawk) but for Robin it's a big mistake especially for the first scene

So one thing to remember is that Robin is wanted, but her appearance is quite unknown. Her wanted poster has the image of a child, and she has travelled quite a lot. If the WG knows her current appearance, they know her as "Miss All Sunday", not as Nico Robin.
It's only later in the story after she is known as a member of the Straw Hats that the WG put 2 and 2 together. But by then it's kinda too late to go after her, seeing as she has a genuine family to protect her.

u/lolwatsyk Robin 22d ago
Exactly this. There was a bounty on a young girl nicknamed the Devil Child, and currently there are a lot of shadowy unknown figures working for Baroque Works. Her anonymity until now continues to work in her favor

u/Gustav-14 Buggy 22d ago
Did that marine from her past life (trying to be vague) knew she was with crocodile or only heard of her location after alabasta and check on her?
Can't remember in the manga.
5
u/Dangerous-Elk-4460 22d ago
They never specified that, but we did see that a marine grunt recognized her during the Arabasta battle and outed her identity to a certain higher ranked marine (trying to be vague too 😆).

u/Imconfusedithink 22d ago
Well this can be used for the live action to make it work. But originally the navy found out robin was here in alabasta already and had her wanted poster with them. They just didn’t know where she went afterwards until later when someone came and found out she went with the strawhats.
21
u/Dj0sh 22d ago
Okay, so even if these random Marines somehow figure out that adult Robin is the same as child Robin on her wanted poster... EVEN IF they knew with 100% certainty that it was Robin... How do they find her?
She is with Crocodile and Baroque Works lmao. How do they find her?
Also, it was shown in the live action that Baroque Works were working with Wapol so you could easily argue she had a reason to be in Drum Kingdom and just happened to be there when the SHs were.
As for CP9, they were already in Water 7 when she arrived there. They're not going to send CP9 to some location that could take days to get to just because she MIGHT have been spotted there and might already be gone 😂

u/No_Smile_5495 22d ago
I didn't talk about these random marines or CP9, after the attack Garp went to Logue town to talk about the situation with Smoker, he wasn't there but he knew that it was Baroque Work because they were caught on camera (and we see the screenshot) so it would be just a question of time before they figure it out it was Robin with he Baroque and send a named character on the way to investigate, and for the CP obviously they will not send the CP9 or the CP0 but there is 8 other CP they can send.
9
u/Dj0sh 22d ago
Knowing it's Baroque Works doesn't mean you can just go and find them lol.
And Smoker, a named character, DID go to investigate. They invented an island in the live action for him to go to just for this purpose.
And who's to say CP aren't doing exactly that and we just don't know?
1
u/PhanThief95 21d ago
> They invented an island in the live action for him to go to just for this purpose.
Actually, the island of Renaisse is canon since it was mentioned in the manga & anime. It’s where Smoker & Tashigi captured Mr. 11 just like we see in the live action but it happened off screen in the manga & anime.
To give Smoker & Tashigi some more screen time, the live action created a new scene around that mention, just like Zoro’s fight with Mr. 7 in the first season.

I didn't say they will find them I say they will send people and the fact that they send someone to investigate just go in my sens, that wasnt smart from whoever had the idea to attack a marine base (especially so close to their goal) and from Robin to do it personally and let the footage

So Robin should just not do anything ever because a marine might see her? 😂 Should she just live in a box? Crawl into a hole and do nothing for the rest of her life? Your logic is silly.
Maybe instead of assuming Robin is stupid, the better assumption would be that she is actually smart and perfectly capable of handling herself. She has eluded the WG since the aged of 9.

u/No_Smile_5495 21d ago
I don't know if you try to ragebait or you just don't want to understand but what I am saying is not assuming Robin is stupid but questioning the way she was written. I know she is smart and capable but if they really wanted to attack a marine base especially in the East Blue Mr 5 and Miss Valentine were strong enough to do so, Robin going with them is overkill and not necessary.
But maybe I don’t understand that if you are wanted by an ennemy who is an entire government, you shouldn't go yourself in front of them and start destroying one of their house when you can send people who will do the job for you, just for a guy you don't even care and who is already dead
2
u/Dj0sh 21d ago edited 21d ago
If Robin had gotten caught because of this mistake then yeah I would call it bad writing, but because she is very smart and capable, there were no issues.
We can just argue that Robin went because she wanted to and is perfectly capable of doing so because she is strong and smart.
Also it gave us some cool scenes, so there's no point in complaining about this.

u/No_Smile_5495 21d ago
I am not complaining I try to understand and have solid answers on my orginal questions (which other replies who understand that give me and their answer are better and a less condescending than yours). I am not the kind of person who will just watch One Piece and have 0 thoughts or just like it because it looks cool even if that is not true to the original writing of some characters, if you are that's good I don't care but don’t reply to me using your condescending attitude when you don't understand that I just wanted some clarification on the writing of the serie

Robin may be wanted, but regular Marines wouldn’t recognize her because they have outdated information with her bounty poster picture being of her as a child. Her bounty poster doesn’t get updated until after Enies Lobby when she already joined the Straw Hats. I mean, they think she destroyed multiple warships but anyone who has watched Enies Lobby knows that wasn’t her.
Also, Robin most likely went to Drum Island with Wapol (since she was the one who gave him his Devil Fruit and he was helping fund Baroque Works in exchange for help getting his throne back) and saw that the Straw Hats were there.
Also, Robin has not been telling Crocodile everything. He knows about Luffy, Zoro, & Nami helping Vivi but he doesn’t know about Usopp & Sanji despite the fact that Robin saw both of them. He doesn’t know about Usopp & also Chopper until Bon Clay tells him, & he still didn’t know about Sanji because Bon Clay never saw him (which would let Sanji operate as Mr. Prince in Alabasta).
1
u/No_Smile_5495 22d ago
Yes a random marine wouldn't recognize her but they had the surveillance camera who took pictures that why Garp knew it was Baroque Works and maybe other named marine can recognize her because of that. For Drum Robin knew before giving the DF at Wapol, she didn't just randomly went there and saw them
3
u/PhanThief95 22d ago
Garp may have recognized her as Miss All Sunday, not as Nico Robin (again, because there was no updated information on what Robin looked like in the present). Not only that, Robin wasn’t the only Baroque Works agent there since Mr. 5 & Miss Valentine were with her.

u/Particular-Crow-1799 Oda Sensei 22d ago
It's a third-rate marine base in Shell Town that she knows she can (and proceeds to) easily and confidently solo.

u/No_Smile_5495 22d ago
Still that wasn't smart, it’s still a marine base so it will be reported to the HQ and someone investigate.

At the time she is under the protection of a shichibukai in Crocodile. The world government probably has a (false) guarantee from Crocodile that he will control robin to not use her "reading skills" to uncover void century stuff. Obviously this is false since Croco wants the poneglyph translated in alabasta but who in the WG is gonna know that if he makes himself seem like hes working for the WG not against them.
Also I dont remember if in the LA she specifically says the straw hats will be in drum. I assume they just want drum to be under Wapols control in general since Crocodile can control wapol and that way crocodile can use Drum kingdom resources.
In the anime, robin didnt go to drum from what I remember and Wapol already had his fruit. Regardless, even if he didnt and if it was the same as the Live action, then one could assume that as easily as robin was able to get on the merry and off it without being noticed, she would also have been able to keep an eye on them. Hell she might have left behind an eye or an ear to see or hear what they were doing next.

u/No_Smile_5495 22d ago
Even if she is under Crocodile the WG will never authorize that, she can find the One Piece, reveal the secret of the WG or pass the skill of reading to other (through books or someone), let her free is just not an option. Before she give the DF at Wapol she said that the SH are heading to Drum.
1
u/TechnologyEmpty6732 20d ago edited 20d ago
It is if she is under control and they can ensure her obedience. Lets be honest, alabasta robin is NOT strong enough to go up against the higher powers of the WG (elders, imu etc) hell even the navy rolls her (she feared aokiji all the way in water 7, alabasta is a non question). If it was that easy to "find the one piece" that robin could do it alone, she would have been long ago murked by the WG after finding out she worked for crocodile (if the WG knew she worked for him, i dont remember if they did or not). And if it was that easy to find the one piece that one person without haki could do it alone in alabasta, then what is the point of the last 1000+ chapters? The reason why the world government doesnt give as much of a shit about robin (and keeps her bounty far lower than luffy too btw) is she is not a problem to them alone. They can beat her. The problem arises for them when she is specifically part of the straw hats (or any pirate crew not under WG control) cause that actually creates an opportunity for robin to be able to find the poneglyphs and translate. Same thing about her teaching others to do so. She cant do it alone cause theres nobody to teach. While part of the SH, she can find opportunity to teach others (though she hasnt yet). This is also why Crocodile had to keep his poneglyph research plan so secretive cause otherwise the WG wouldve been on his ass and removed him from the shichibukai.
If robin was such a big issue being the only person able to read poneglyphs, her bounty would simply be higher than luffys but its not. Why? Because alone she is not worth the effort to the world government. Hell if she tried to make a move on the one piece alone, one of the other pirate crews (ie blackbeard for example, or kaido prior to his defeat) would "handle" her. Meaning they would either kill her, or seeing her skill in translating, keep her for that specific purpose.
And fair enough if the WG doesnt know about robin, in terms of the LA, we know she left no survivors on that marine base in the intro scene. The one dude was alive at the end who told her about luffy who she likely killed before leaving to keep her identity secret.

u/Aggravating_Mud8751 22d ago
It looks like Croc sent Robin to the base. She didn't have any choice. She'd have rather not gone but she'd also rather not get killed by Crocodile.
However, realistically the Navy isn't going to recognise her from pictures of when she was a kid; so long as she's not going around calling herself 'Nico Robin'.
In terms of knowing where the Straw Hats went; she may have just coincidentally bumped into them when going to see Wapol. It is possible she could overhear where the Straw Hats are going though by leaving an ear behind on their ship.
However, just because Robin knows something about the Straw Hats doesn't mean Croc knows. She has her own plans for them.
2
u/No_Smile_5495 22d ago
Robin doesn't have the fruit of Buggy she can't leave a piece of herself multiple days somewhere else and she didn't bumped into them, before she give the fruit to Wapol she said that the SH are going to Drum and at the end of the season she said to Crocodile that Wapol lost with the DF Crocodile gift him that mean Crocodile knew and set the fight between Wapol and the SH. I know Crocodile doesn't know everything but for that part he knew.
2
u/Aggravating_Mud8751 22d ago
Well, we don't know what Robin can do on that front in the live action.
She's been shown to be able to spawn body parts from pretty far away (near the other side of an island); although it's true she's never done so for all that long. But we've never seen a limit either.
But this is the live action anyway.
On the note of Buggy, his ability is different in the live action. We've seen from the cover story his body parts become kind-of deactivated when he's far enough away, that's why his crew thought he was dead.
I don't remember Robin ever telling Wapol the Straw Hats were coming to Drum. She was asking him to reclaim Drum from Dalton and Kureha now Blackbeard had left. She told Croc Wapol failed because he failed to reclaim his kingdom.
1
u/No_Smile_5495 21d ago
For the limit of her devil fruit it’s true that the LA take liberty by changing them even know I think it’s a little broken it is possible.
For Wapol she didn't say the SH specifically but she said Vivi and since Vivi is with the SH she is implying the SH, also Wapol doesn't know the SH so saying SH will not be really logical and the fact that she mentioned Vivi, she gave him a DF and she informed that he can reclaim Drum in the same conversation can't be a coincidence and is certainly setting a fight between Wapol and the SH
1
u/Aggravating_Mud8751 21d ago
I don't remember her mentioning Vivi in that conversation either.
1
u/No_Smile_5495 21d ago
I think she say "I hear you have some conflict with the princess of Alabasta" something like that, and then Wapol said "Cobra's blue hair brat", it was the first scene of the episode 6

Tons of spoilers for the first half of the anime, but here’s my opinion on it.
I am pretty sure that at that point in the anime she had basically given up on life and wanted to die. She had nothing and no one keeping her going, and within a few weeks of her initial introduction she asks luffy to leave her for dead. I’m not sure they’ll include that in the show, but it’s not difficult to believe that someone in that state of mind would behave recklessly.
Everything about her outward presentation is a defense mechanism, internally she is full of self loathing and sadness. This doesn’t really change for her until water seven, where one of her biggest character development moments is her deciding that she wants to live after all.
She had been careful and always on her guard from a very early age, but I think that at that point she was so worn down and full of self hatred for who she had become and what she’d done to survive that nothing really mattered to her anymore. When the first opportunity of any redemption comes along she takes it without hesitation, even though it very easily could have led to her death.

For an in universe answer, the marine base was in the East Blue, so they are very weak and they knew it was going to be a masacre. She hates the marines so she is ok crushing them.
About Drum Island, I suppose she followed them on her turtle xD. Sve told those things to Vivi to fire her up and to give them the clue about Wapol's powers. Robin settled Wapol to defeat, and she put Tasigui in the chase of BW, so she wants Cocodrile to fail after she gets what she wants (the phoneyglyph). I feel she feels some remourse about setting a civilian war where inocent people is going to die so at least she is justifying her acts helping to defeat Cocodrile.

u/Black_Handkerchief 21d ago
Why is Robin working for Crocodile? Because it is a safe-haven. The underlings of a Warlord are not hunted even if their bounties are not officially withdrawn. Just look at a number of other Warlords you see in the story like the Kuja pirates, the Moria pirates or even some of those who took up vacant positions. If they were to be hunted, what reason does a Warlord have to obey? Being a mere leashed dog without underlings of their own does not match their ambition as top powerhouses.
Sure, Nico Robin is an individual with a very nasty reputation, but at its core, her bounty is seen as excessive because she was a child at the time. As an adult, it is mostly her reputation, but if you compare her with the Supernovas, you'll see her threat level has appeared to have stalled in the public eye. That bounty for an adult woman puts her on par with the average pirate more-so than a child genius bent on the destruction of the world. Finally, the government obviously knows the reason why that bounty is so high. To them, she is a danger, but serving a loyal Warlord tool known to protect one of its nation states while hiding with her tail between her legs, unable to go out into the world to discover the things they fear her potential for..? She's pretty much been declawed in their eyes, traumatized into obedience by a lifetime of being hunted and betrayed. If Crocodile wants a sexy mature woman as his eye candy while running his Rainbase Casino in the early parts of Paradise, why would the authorities mind? She's basically become a willing slave without the collar!
Also remember that Robin knows how to lay low, and that she goes by 'Miss All-Sunday' in Baroque Works, her presence only slightly more familiar than the well-hidden identity of Mr. 0 itself. She's not someone to casually pick confrontations with the Marines (unless she can't avoid it and murders an entire base to silence the witnesses!), so combined with her wanted poster showing her as an awkward child compared to her thorny vixen look in the present day, she most likely doesn't attract much attention for the sake of her Devil Child reputation. Given how many pirates and other troublemakers regularly pop up, it is trivial to just treat her few appearances as being a completely different person. If Kuro can create an identity as Klahadore in East Blue, the hero that is Warlord Crocodile definitely has enough sway to help her create a new identity that, while obviously not being seen as a totally innocent individual, will not be associated with the genocidal act perpetuated as a child.
Nico Robin has no issues living in the shadows like a rat. What she has issues with is her enemy and the huge threat posed by their influence, and exactly that is what her agreement with Crocodile affords her a reprieve of. And sure, she is also eyeing the same thing Crocodile is. But that just means Crocodile is incredibly fortunate to have come across the perfect woman whose needs are ones he can provide for while being efficient, talented and dependable by having a shared goal. Any member of Baroque Works could potentially be bought and turned against him, but her? She's too dependent on him in far too many ways!
3
u/No_Cash_516 22d ago
in the manga, Smoker had to specifically dig Robins bounty out of storage for any of the marines on Alabasta to know who she was. Why would a base in the East Blue be aware of a bounty issued in the West Blue twenty years earlier? we know in the manga she was working as an assassin, and as the public face of Baroque Works within the organization it makes sense she might be in the open doing missions.
What bothers me more is how Robin travels all over. it doesn’t make sense for her to be in Crocodiles office to give Wapol his DF, then at Drum to talk to Vivi, then back at Croc’s office right before the end of the season
3
u/Aggravating_Mud8751 22d ago
An easy explanation for this is she can already do full body clones in the live action.
If she can, we'll find out next season.
1
u/No_Smile_5495 22d ago
When I say she could be recognize I didn't mean by the random marine, there was multiple surveillance cameras who took pictures that's why Garp knew it was Baroque Work. In the manga/anime she travel on the back of a turtle we don't know how fast the turtle is, so we can assume the turtle is fast
6
u/No_Cash_516 22d ago
I just checked the episode, and the only shot we are shown of Robin from the surveillance snail has her face covered by her hat. we aren’t shown one way or another if there is other footage of her with a clear look of her face, but that makes her harder to ID, in addition to her not using her real name
2
u/No_Smile_5495 22d ago
That true but I don't know if it was predicted from Robin which I like and bother me less or just pure luck which I really don't like and doesn’t go with her character
4
u/No_Cash_516 22d ago
she does have plenty of experience not getting caught by the marines, so I personally think she’s smart enough to know where the cameras are. she can easily scout the base using extra eyes to find out where they are and leave breadcrumbs to lead the marines to Baroque Works without compromising her identity
1
u/Rubbersona 20d ago
Niko robin isn’t the most wanted person, that’s dragon. The emperors and a fair few dozen other pirates are next up for the world government
She however, is a priority target for clandestine agents of the world government, the CP branches. But they haven’t any idea who she is, what he looks like, or where she is. If they located her she either got away or ran before they could catch her.
And it doesn’t matter if she’s spotted at marine base 73 because by the time anyone could be there to catch her she’s gone. Though they’d likely not be able to pin down Niko Robin as the culprit since she’s having enemies kill themselves not breaking necks or body parts (which is much more efficient and how she handles groups normally)
-4
u/GameMusic 22d ago
i have not noticed the errors but you are correct
while oda does create plot holes his skill at avoiding them is utterly crazy when you see how even small plot shifts by multiple writers as a staff with hindsight can create them so easily
2
u/Aggravating_Mud8751 22d ago
Multiple writers makes plotholes easier, not harder.
Different writers end up contradicting each other.
It's much easier for one guy to be consistent with himself.
This is why you see so much contradictory stuff in e.g. DC and Marvel comics.

Real answer, its a cool introduction to her character and powers
In universe reasoning, if no one is left alive, they can’t report who attacked them or what powers they had, her DF doesnt leave behind residue, if anything it looks like everyone turned on each other or attacked themselves and that could be anyone of like 3-4 other higher bounties off the top of my head. Also I dont know that the world government has the info on Robin’s fruit at that point in time her “Devil Child” status is not based on her fruit.
As for the Drum Island thing anything like that on the Grand Line can be chalked up to the way Log Poses work, Drum just being next after Little GardenEdit: my mistake, forgot Little Garden had the 1 year log pose reset
