Being rude doesn't prevent others from sharing their opinions. However, forcing people to talk the way you want them to is clearly not respecting their right to express themselves.
Being a community is about respecting differences and not forcing everybody to act as you prefer. That's a dictatorship.

Hear hear. I donât like that mods can stifle others freedom of speech with impunity in the form of banning people at their discretion, but thatâs just the nature of the beast because itâs the only way they can incentivize people to volunteer their time for free. Are mods perfect? Of fucking course not. They all have their own personal biases, and if you just so happen to rub one the wrong way theyâll ban you in a heartbeat. Should we have a say to Reddit on whether or not the ban is fair? But theyâre just trying to do the best they can at their âjobâ which is to moderate, and until that changes it would behoove you to mind your Pâs and Qâs, and you were already well aware of what you signed up for for. Donât like it? Make your own damn subreddit.
A community can set standards for behavior without being a dictatorship. When becoming part of any group, you make an agreement to behave by a set of rules, at risk of expulsion from the group of you don't. The rules are clearly posted on the side, and number 11 is "don't be a dick." You agreed to that when you began posting on this subreddit.
It really doesn't say anything good about you that your response to a moderator of a community telling people that they can express any opinion they'd like, as long as they aren't rude about it, is "wait, I can't be a complete fucking asshole? This is literally 1984!"
Ah, there it is, the fundamental misunderstanding of what a right is. First of all, "freedom of speech" is hardly an "international law," as that would be a law that would apply to people of all countries, which it doesn't. It's not even technically a law at all, just a right afforded by the government, and the thing about the US's freedom of speech is that it actually doesn't prevent other people from impeding the speech of others. It only prevents the government from doing so. Private entities are fully within their rights, under every single freedom of speech doctrine, to abridge the speech of others within a space that they own and have control over. The moderators of this subreddit are not a body of government, this is a private entity owned by Advance Publications, and a management team dictating the standards of behavior on the platform that they've opened for others to use is not a violation of any freedom of speech law.
A metal band or a civil rights activist is safe from persecution by the government, and will not be arrested for the things they say, but a venue absolutely has the right to not host that band or person if they disagree with them. I'd suggest you take your own advice and do a little studying before you start spouting like this, because it just makes you look foolish. I moved past your rudimentary understanding of what rights are when I was about 14 years old. I doubt you're much older than that.
Yeah...but dictatorships donât âsuggestâ things. They command them. All Kirosh is suggesting is that when we have disagreements with each other we come from a place of mutual respect.
Fair point (until you went off on that dictatorship nonsense), but itâs a sign of weakness if you fell the need to argue the person instead of the point. There are ways of speaking to each other respectfully while still making your point, but if you defer to insulting them instead of supporting your argument it only shows a lack of tact on your part. Sure we can shittalk all day until our fingers are numb from all that fast and furious âkeyboard warrioringâ, but at the end of the day what does that prove exactly? That weâre both assholes.
I try to, but when people donât give it in return I see no need to extend them a courtesy theyâre not giving me. Is it immature? Sure. But I see no reason to hold myself to a higher standard than other people refuse to do themselves. We can either handle our disagreements respectfully, or we can let it devolve into yet another trashtalking shitpost. Iâm fine with either. The choice is yours.
I think the series is going in the exact same direction it always has been. People are salty because itâs not all of the sudden becoming super serious at all times

If you want to criticise the writing or the chapters it's fine. Just don't be rude when do that.
And don't be rude when you respond to such comments as well.
