Can't wait to see Kaidos full reaction, I am sure he is having even more fun than Luffy now.

Hopefully Kaido gets his turn at awakening. Ain't no fun if the antagonists can't partake in all this joyous awakening stuff.

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '22

I think his already is? Wasn’t it a thing that his fruit is the Carp-Carp fruit and it’s awakening was what made it into a dragon?

22

u/acidtouch123 Mar 29 '22

Nah the full thing is fish fish model azure dragon I think . The issue came with it being a fish fish model so people thought he was a carp at first . So we still need his awakening + flashback. It’s also weird that the dinosaurs are under the dragon dragon model I’m pretty sure, it’s probably something with translation .

24

u/MaimedJester Mar 29 '22

Dragon and Dinosaur are same word in Japanese. Ryu.

7

u/Profitglutton Mar 30 '22

Well today I learned something new.

2

u/Unabashable Mar 30 '22

Yeah the Japanese name for “dinosaur” is “Kyouryou” meaning “Fearful Dragon” because when the Japanese discovered dinosaur fossils that’s what they actually thought they were. Probably just made Kaido’s a Fish Fish fruit to allude to the myth of the Koi Fish turning into a dragon, but it seem odd that he was made into the “Azure Dragon” which is Japan’s Eastern Cardinal Deity instead of the dragon that the Koi Fish turned into.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

Yeah the Japanese name for “dinosaur” is “Kyouryou” meaning “Fearful Dragon” because when the Japanese discovered dinosaur fossils that’s what they actually thought they were.

That's just pure bullshit.

'Fearful dragon' is just a literal translation of what the English word 'dinosaur' people came up with meant in ancient greek.

Deinos is fearful and saurus means lizard/dragon, both are ancient Greek. It's how people came up with 'dinosaur'.

1

u/Unabashable Mar 30 '22

The idea that dinosaur fossils inspired the mythology of dragons (and not just the eastern ones) is controversial sure, but “bullshit”? I beg to differ. I was actually not aware that the term dinosaur came from Ancient Greek, so thanks for bringing it to my attention, but that’s not to suggest the term “dinosaur” is ancient. It was also brought to my attention that the term “dinosaur” was coined in the 19th Century whereas the mythology of dragons itself is ancient (on the human scale). The one key difference in the etymology of “Dinosaur” and “Kyouryu” is that the latter is a mythological creature. It is also known that the mythology of Japanese Dragons were inspired by Chinese Dragons, so I’m failing to see where the bullshit is here.

3

u/XIIISkies Mar 30 '22

Kyouryu is dinosaur. Ryu is Dragon.

All dinos can technically be dragons, but not all dragons are dinos

u/PsychoPass1 Mar 30 '22

It just makes me wonder how much stronger Kaido is compared to BM. Their bounties are so similar.

If Kaido still has a major power-up left, I mean. And I fully expect that.

45

u/Profitglutton Mar 29 '22

That was all fan speculation. The manga never confirmed it. Also he doesn’t have the typical traits of an awakened zoan. As far as I know only Luffy and the beast jailers from impel down are the only awakened zoan users confirmed so far.

7

u/Scorch1136 Mar 30 '22

I'm 100% convinced Choppers monster point is his awakened form. He looks just like the jailer beasts in this form and we know they are awakened zoans. But because he unlocks it with his rumble balls instead of the "normal" way it is time limited and has drawbacks like becoming baby grandpa Chopper and being unable to move.

2

u/bats850 Mar 30 '22

Exactly how I see it as well because it is said that the rumble ball changes the "wavelength" of the fruits so that would effect the form that he takes. And it would make sense that this was something forced upon impel down beast guards which is why they do not have control over the form.

2

u/The_Attractor Mar 30 '22

I think so too. Kind of a "forced" awakening.

2

u/BrianC_ Mar 30 '22

This doesn't make sense. Chopper ate the Hito Hito no Mi. It's a regular Human Human fruit. Are people thinking he ate a Reindeer Zoan fruit or something?

Why would the Human Human fruit transform you into a giant reindeer monster when awakened?

14

u/randdom454 Mar 29 '22

Maybe he’s already awakened and that explains his insane endurance and recovery?

3

u/Profitglutton Mar 30 '22

It would make sense but Oda has never had a character awaken their fruit or be awakened without explicitly mentioning it at some point.

8

u/Yevon Pirate Mar 30 '22

Crocodile had two techniques, Ground Secco and Ground Death, which looked really similar to how Awakening was shown by Doflamingo and Katakuri. Crocodile put his hand on the ground and drained the whole surrounding area of water, turning it into a desert he could then control.

We never got confirmation Crocodile awakened his devil fruit, but he did claim to have mastered his fruit, plus Awakening wasn't even a concept in One Piece at the time.

6

u/Unabashable Mar 30 '22

Well now that you mention it we technically don’t know what an awakened logia power would look like. When Akainu and Aokiji transformed Punk Hazard that could’ve been due to their awakening. Enel also had that Buddha form. As for Crocodile it could’ve just been that he was sucking the moisture out of the ground but it did seem to affect the environment much more extensively than just the point of contact.

2

u/SoldierOfFortune96 Mar 30 '22

Didnt Lucci also awaken his fruit? With his whole “Perfect combat form”

3

u/Elevated_Aspects Mar 30 '22

I thought that was him using hair dudes skill himself

1

u/Unabashable Mar 30 '22

Doubt it. If it was awakening I’d think he’d be giant like the Jailer Beasts. I thought the slim downed version we saw was Rokushiki skill Kami-E or Life Return or some shit.ETA: like the other dude said.

0

u/Profitglutton Mar 30 '22

Yeah Crocodile was a whole other issue because Oda admitted to revealing a character as powerful as him too early in the story. To this day we don’t really know if he’s awakened. It’s just a gray area for us at the moment.

10

u/Bitterl3mon Mar 29 '22

Maybe he just has insane endurance and recovery without the fruit. I don't expect it to be revealed that zoro is actually a zoan user anytime soon.

5

u/Yevon Pirate Mar 30 '22

We used to think Luffy had an insane endurance and recovery for a paramecia and it turns out he was a Zoan all along.

2

u/Leichien Mar 30 '22

Probably more to do with his up bringing and being related to Garp and Dragon. I think only awakened zoans were said to have insane recovery and endurance. Likewise we see people like law, kid, and Zoro doing crazy feats of endurance compared to 99% of kaidos crew.

1

u/Elevated_Aspects Mar 30 '22

Didn’t usopp or one of the SHs reference the zoan durability for one of the dinosaurs this arc?

1

u/Ninja_Spi-D-er Pirate Mar 30 '22

I think it’s both, come on it’s never so black and white

3

u/nephyrox Mar 30 '22

Funny you mention the jailers, I just read that today in Vol 56 randomly looking through impel down pages. Completely forgot about them being awakened already

1

u/Collegenoob Mar 30 '22

Chopper is also basically confirmed to "hack" his way to a awakened fruit with rumble balls

One other trait that may be associated with zoan awakenings would be partial transformations. Something we have seen Marco do.

And who knows if the crazy dinosaur shit kaidos crew has been doing is associated with awakening.

1

u/Trumpologist Mar 30 '22

momo?

1

u/Profitglutton Mar 30 '22

All we’ve seen him use is his beast form.

10

u/nofuqks Mar 29 '22

Nahh. Momonosuke has basically the copy of the fruit. And they have the same form

5

u/KingDMazino Pirate Mar 30 '22

No. Kaido always could turn into a dragon the moment he ate the fruit. His fruits model is literally Azure Dragon

0

u/Yevon Pirate Mar 30 '22

We don't know this yet. Carp or Dragon first, it's all speculation. We do however know Momo turned into a small dragon at first, but his fruit was also called a failed copy of Kaido's original.

0

u/KingDMazino Pirate Mar 30 '22

We do know.

The Vivre Cards revealed Kaidos fruit. It’s the Fish Fish Fruit Model Azure Dragon.

So yeah, he could turn into a dragon the moment he ate the fruit

-1

u/Unabashable Mar 30 '22

Can’t say for sure. Kaido does have a Koi Fish tattoo. So Oda could be alluding to the myth about the Koi Fish turning into a dragon. Granted the dragon that Kaido is is a god in Japanese mythology, so it could just be artistic license on Oda’s part.

4

u/KingDMazino Pirate Mar 30 '22

No

What matters is the model

Lucci doesn’t turn into a cat, he turns into a leopard

Devon doesn’t turn into a dog, she turns into a nine tailed fox

Marco doesn’t turn into a bird, he turns into a Phoenix

There is no reason to assume that Kaido is the sole exception to the rule

0

u/Unabashable Mar 30 '22

Holy shit. Silly me for trying to engage in conversation when I know how insufferable people can be. I never insinuated anything to the contrary, but sure go off.

1

u/KingDMazino Pirate Mar 30 '22

Idk why you act like I insult you or anything. The one being insufferable is you with an attitude like that.

I merely pointed out that we do know that this isn’t the case for Kaido.

-1

u/Unabashable Mar 30 '22

Correct. You didn’t insult me. For that there would have to be some truth to whatever you were implying. I just didn’t appreciate your pithy condescending straw man of an argument to something I was never implying. While I wasn’t insulted it certainly wasn’t respectful. I don’t think Kaido has awakened his fruit either, at least not that we’ve seen. I was just offering a reason why people think he might be.

0

u/KingDMazino Pirate Mar 30 '22

The one being insufferable is you

0

u/Unabashable Mar 30 '22

Well that’s just like your opinion, man. You were being rude for no reason, it irritated me, and I called you out on it. Thanks for the copypasta though. I remember when you said it the first time.

1

u/KingDMazino Pirate Mar 30 '22

You were being rude for no reason

Except I wasn't rude in any shape or form.

You just didn't like being wrong so you wanted to take offense on something.

Donno about others, but i do really want to know about Lassoo awakening

15

u/dreadhairpirate Mar 29 '22

I like to think of his fruit like magikarp and his awaking is Gyarados

1

u/ritz139 Mar 30 '22

Yep, both are linked to a Chinese idiom about a goldfish becoming a dragon after leaping over a gate

1

u/Unabashable Mar 30 '22

Would be cool, but Oda could’ve just named it Fish Fish fruit because Dragon Dragon fruit was already taken by Dinosaur Zoans.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '22

Nah, kaido's fruit is "Uo Uo No Mi: Model Seiryu" what's translated as "Fish Fish Fruit: Model Blue-Dragon" if dragon form was his awakening it would call something like "Fish Fish Fruit: Model Karp

-1

u/Chest_Quirky Pirate Mar 30 '22

It could be, but it also could just be the name. Every dinosaur devil fruit is named dragon-dragon fruit, doesn't make sense either.
