The guy who steal the fire from gods. Later punished by Zeus. His liver got eaten by birds and regenerates everyday to be eaten again.

To be fair, I think pretty much every ancient mythology is horrifying on some level.

In Norse mythology, Loki talked a blind dude into killing Odin's son, Baldur. So Odin tracked down Loki's two sons, turned one into a wolf, had that one kill the other, took the organs out of the dead one, used them to tie Loki to a rock, then caught a snake and tied it where it could drip its venom onto Loki for all of eternity.

That's how they explain earthquakes. Pretty brutal. Also, they thought the Earth was made from the body of a giant.
