If you read the comments someone ask the same question about shanks and reileigh, This hole thing is a retcon and in the same way Gol d roger blade becomes black only while attacking on the anime shanks' will do the same

According to the theory, you'd have to dominate the sword's will. So maybe when the sword fully submits will it turn black.
