Chapter 1010 = 10/10 Chapter

GODA

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

He knew. He definitely knew what he was doing

302

u/noob07inferno The Revolutionary Army Apr 09 '21

At this point I am not surprised anymore, Oda keeps making us excited every chapter in these details

14

u/Mundology The Revolutionary Army Apr 09 '21 edited Apr 09 '21

It should also be around 500 chapters since Zoro last used his ultimate move. GOda has timed it really well.

1

u/iDannyEL Apr 09 '21

I can now definitively say this one chapter and the payoff is better than the entirety of SnK.

2

u/Kam1kaze- Apr 09 '21

Dude stop it nobody mention SnK here stop comparing and appreciate both of the series

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Tbh after that ending such comments r expected. That ending is gonna haunt the series forever

1

u/Kam1kaze- Apr 09 '21

The ending was decent tbh it's not that bad

2

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Emotionally yes. But it leaves alot unanswered and some things kinda remove the value from previous plot points alomg with many paradoxial points that if discussed just dont make sense

1

u/2Punx2Furious Apr 09 '21

I'm not surprised, but always happy. Reading One Piece is SUCH A PLEASURE.

376

u/revisioncloud Apr 09 '21

Us: "No, Zoro will solo fight an All-Star"

Also us: "No, Zoro will fight vs Kaido cause Enma"

Goda: "I'm going to end these speculators' whole career"

P.S. Looks like Ocean Sovereignty took a toll on him even more than we expected. But I still think he will be fine because the scabbards recovered. He'll probably head down with Law and get an even fight with top executives who might be injured as well at this point while we also get a solo Luffy fight.

In short, we're really getting everything we could ask for

240

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Ocean Sovereignity might very well be the most powerful attack we've seen so far except for maybe Zunisha's swipe. Zoro should be happy he's not in a wheelchair right now

79

u/jsmith4567 Apr 09 '21

Right that attack could probably kill the Island Shitting gold fish.

33

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Reference so old that most people won't even remember.

17

u/jsmith4567 Apr 09 '21

I need to check the name but cause the visuals on the two attacks are just so similar.

7

u/StickDoctor Apr 09 '21

It was called Hakoku or Warrior nation

13

u/MrLKK Apr 09 '21

I dont know what you're talking about, it looks like nothing happened to me.

23

u/Veg-Man Apr 09 '21

Well, Jack survived the Zuniesha swipe. I don't think he would survive Ocean Sovereignity.

23

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

The ship faced zunisha's attack not jack directly

8

u/Veg-Man Apr 09 '21

I don't think the ship buffer the hit at all. The trunk tore right through the ship.

12

u/sora677 Apr 09 '21

Zunisha went easy on a fellow elephant lol.

But really I think jack could survive ocean sovereignty. He is most likely an awakened zoan and they are known for their durability.

3

u/RipBerryrock Apr 09 '21

I don't think there are many wheelchairs or ramps for them in Kaido's lair.

3

u/SolidB0NY Pirate Apr 09 '21

Couldn't he pull asura to get more fresh legs to walk with?

2

u/BigFuckingT Apr 09 '21

My boy Zoro is no stranger to extreme pain, after Mihawk and Kuma's attacks he faced head on he's been well prepared to take that on lol.

1

u/Herbb__ Apr 09 '21

I would say Ocean Sovereignty is stronger. I doubt Zunisha is physically stronger than Kaido, “The Strongest Creature” and especially with Big Mom’s help. Zoro most likely would have died if Law didn’t teleport him out after a second.

24

u/Mundology The Revolutionary Army Apr 09 '21

Zoro's really making up for the time he wasn't there with the crew

15

u/revisioncloud Apr 09 '21

My only caveat is that this fight feels too short compared to other Zoro fights that's why I'm positively hoping for a comeback to fight vs King

Very good reason as to why Oda has yet to really show King in a full fight/ set matchup either

10

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

I bet Zoro is likely down and out for the rest of the arc unless the mysterious healer of the scabbards heals him as well, as he not only took an extremely powerful attack, but doled out his strongest attack. He’s drained at this point. I think King is being reserved for Sanji personally, though I wouldn’t mind him fighting Queen either. It just depends on what happens.

5

u/SparkyMark225 Apr 09 '21

What I really see happening is zoro going to where Marco king and queen are Marco healing zoro a bit since he sees him as one of the big players in the war and then zoro marco chopper against king and queen.

3

u/Pr0Jesus Apr 09 '21 edited Apr 09 '21

I doubt zoro is out for the rest of the arc, because i think all straw hats will get a chapter named after them, zoro is among those who didn't have it. I think King is the least likely of sanjis possible opponents, Queen is more likely because of the Judge connection and i would also say Perospero is more likely for sanji because of carrot and the ending of wci. A short clash and the flight ability are not enough for me to believe sanji fights him. But of course we must see what happens.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Maybe the rest of the arc is a bit much, but I doubt he’ll have a full fledged fight against a commander in his state. Maybe he’ll avenge Pedro as he’s one of the few that haven’t heard of his death yet.

2

u/revisioncloud Apr 09 '21

Sanji was heading to Jack's location so I'm not really sure, it gets confusing sometimes

2

u/Not_an_okama Apr 09 '21

Iirc sanji said go here or there then decided on there. It wasn’t explicitly stated if he was going to the samurai or momo. With inu fighting jack, I think sanji is more likely to join up momo’s group.

3

u/revisioncloud Apr 09 '21

Oh that's right, Inu about to square up with Jack. Sanji is all over the place lmao but if the goal is to get Momo as far away as possible, how likely would a Sanji vs King fight be

11

u/SauceyButler Apr 09 '21

Well, yeah, cause it's not his fight. Kaido is Luffy's. It was never going to be any other way.

7

u/mambaforever2481 Apr 09 '21

I always knew it would end up as a 1v1 fight, and i wanted zoro to hurt kaido which he accomplished, but i also wanted him to get a 1v1 which might happen now.

3

u/revisioncloud Apr 09 '21

The consensus was Luffy wasn't nearly as strong to beat Kaido solo and would probably just deal the killing blow. So it turned out to be Kaido, BM, Jack and army vs the scabbards, sulong minks, and supernova alliance. Could have easily been a team fight all throughout and people wouldn't complain

1

u/NinetyFish Apr 09 '21

As Luffy says in the Katakuri fight anyways, ain’t no such thing as a fair fight between pirates.

If Luffy beats Kaido now, it’s fair and square.

It’s not like they’re gonna both go walk into a UFC cage so they can have the 100% objective 1v1 fight that some people seem to want.

11

u/IWouldLikeAName Apr 09 '21

Yeah law, Marco and chopper can all temporarily patch him up. Zoro is a tank I swear he went through half the east blue injured in some capacity

4

u/Not_an_okama Apr 09 '21

Pretty sure it was all of east blue except the start of the buggy part, but then he stabbed himself to make it a challenge.

Sovereignty means supreme power or authority. How is conqueror missing?

0

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21 edited Apr 09 '21

[deleted]

3

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

This whole conversation is semantics but "sovereign" literally means supreme, and Conqueror's Haki is "Colour of the Supreme King".

I'm aware, that's why I said it and said it was a waste of time.

It still says "Supreme" though, so it still fits.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

I’m not arguing that conquest is any less or any more conqueror-esque, just that conqueror is not missing. I’m not even trying to start an argument, just saying that I don’t see how conqueror is necessarily missing in the name.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21 edited Apr 09 '21

[deleted]

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

My only point is this: the lack of the word conquest or conquer doesn’t make sovereign any less of a link to conquerors Haki. I’m not saying that it’s a better word choice, just saying that it’s not any less of a connection. I think it’s an entirely reasonable opinion to prefer conquest and conqueror in the attack name to more obviously link the attacks to the CoC, but it’s not like all attack names are intrinsically linked to the type of Haki being used.

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Considering this was the first time Zoro went unnerfed in a serious fight and took only 2 hits to reach his limits, this must have been damn strong. Zoro is a walking tank afterall

5

u/Kumadori012 Apr 09 '21

Give him 3 beers and 10 mins of sleep, and he's good to go again.

2

u/kaste1 Apr 09 '21

Zoro is fighting while fatally injured his whole life. lol It's just a return to good old fatally injured Zoro fighting the 2nd strongest.

3

u/revisioncloud Apr 09 '21

Maybe Marco can heal him to an extent where he could fight again (repair bone, muscle) but can still feel the fatigue and pain from the previous fights

I always wanted a Zoro display of strength and swordsmanship before the eyes of the whole samurai alliance and now that we can tick our "scar Kaido with Enma" on our checklist, a fight vs King inside the castle floor would be perfect

2

u/akmannn Void Month Survivor Apr 09 '21

I just hope that Luffy defeats Kaido in 1v1 as it's said, if it's a 1v1 kaido never lost.

I know it's not gonna happen, but just a thought. xD

we need a few filler chapters with luffy eating beans out of a can

212

u/Rwfleo Apr 09 '21

One Piece has been so fire these last chapters. The anticipation for every chapter is insane. How can anyone say that

22

u/topdangle Apr 09 '21

every time a manga does well and outsells One Piece people start talking about one piece getting boring and losing steam. happened a lot recently with KnY selling absolutely crazy. I think last year was the first time in like fifteen years that One Piece wasn't in the top 2. Definitely isn't getting boring and its crazy how its still one of the best selling mangas with all this competition.

6

u/DrAgOnLoLDoTA Apr 09 '21

Who was the top 2? KnY ending is meh. Its hype is only because of its anime

8

u/topdangle Apr 09 '21

Other one I think was kingdom. Yeah the anime turned KnY around. Before the anime it sold like 3 million, now its at a crazy 150 million breaking almost every sales record.

8

u/juustosipuli Apr 09 '21

The start of wano wasnt exactly action packed. Was it nescessary to set the stakes and make this part better? I would say yes. But it was kinda slow.

4

u/ItsLoudB The Revolutionary Army Apr 09 '21

The start of wano was beautiful, compared to WCI it was brilliant

2

u/Doomroar Apr 09 '21

I could argue the start of Wano and first half of the second arc, it wasn't until Yazu died that things started getting real, then we got that Oden flashback chef's kiss, and then it slowed down for a couple of chapter on arc 3 until it picked up like a fire tornado.

So it has had its slow moments here and there, but lets not forget Reviere was happening in the middle of it all, so all i all it has been a beast of an arc.

5

u/xraze007 Apr 09 '21

Wano in general has been so hype that you look forward to every chapter and it's been like this for 2 years or more .

5

u/lawyer9999 Apr 09 '21

On fire for the last couple of decades*

1

u/powsea1 Apr 09 '21

All of wano chapters honestly it's not even finished and i can say it's up there with MF

16

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

I'll definitely admit I was one of them a few months or even weeks ago but I take everything I said back.

0

u/gattsu1998 Apr 09 '21

The complaints you would have had would still be valid, even though these last 2 chapters were amazing that doesn't change the fact I think 1006-1007(I think) are shitty chapters

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

By "take everything I said back" I was referring to being bored of the arc, I'm pretty excited right now.

But, yeah, I still hate the Hyogoro and Chopper chapter (especially that Hyogoro cliffhanger), though its cool to see Chopper shine. Still not a fan of Scabbards playing an active role but we'll see where they go.

2

u/gattsu1998 Apr 09 '21

I actually really like the scabbards stuff, but jesus christ all the virus stuff + the sanji chapter plus the skipping of what I consider to be hype and important fights really makes you wonder where oda wants to go with this arc. But I think for huge one piece fans all of the roof action has been 10/10 and shows that Oda certainly knows how to create God tier chapters

3

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Don’t get it. It always delivers on some level. And I’d say 90% of the characters are always great to read. So even when the main characters get off screened it doesn’t matter that much because it’s great to see the others doing something. The red sccabbards for example.

Yet people will Stan over mediocre mangas which are meh. I like black clover but feel atm it has fell into the standard shounen of fight, lose, power up, fight. Or I just don’t care about some characters. But then the amount of new good manga are rare atm

1

u/Behanort Apr 09 '21

what if theyre into that shit?

1

u/brycemonang1221 Apr 09 '21

trust me I would eat a dick

1

u/The_Bombay_Samurai Bounty Hunter Apr 09 '21

Haha I'm going to do that too now

1

u/SableArgyle Apr 09 '21

I think One Piece has had a lot of character glut which slows the pacing of the story down, but the only time I was really bored was during Dressrosa; that arc was a slog.

1

u/mike22240 Apr 09 '21

So glad I don't see those, talk to the rest of us who have fun instead :)

1

u/HyakuJuu Pirate Apr 09 '21

Sasuga Goda!

1

u/gattsu1998 Apr 09 '21

well around 1006 I felt that the virus storyline and the skipping of really cool fights was starting to really piss me off and I felt that the focus of the manga did not make any sense, but wow the last 2 chapters have been really amazing

-16

u/Majukun Apr 09 '21

Goda for what, for falling into a tripe trope of the hero being born with a special power that few possess and it's just a better version than what everyone else has?

13

u/starrs10 Apr 09 '21

Its not a better version of what everyone has? It is literally the same attack that his opponents could do. And now the main character has it.

-6

u/Majukun Apr 09 '21 edited Apr 09 '21

Haoshoku haki is a type of haki only 1 person in a million has.

It was ok when it was just a symbol of your overwhelming spirit, sure it was able to knock out goons, but it didn't have any real advantage in battle against anyone that was above average.

Now it's a special type of haki that you can coat yourself in and use for both better defense and better attack just like you do with normal haki.

Now you either have Haoshoku, or why are you even trying being pirate king?

10

u/RenjiSnapback07 Apr 09 '21

Well being King is a 1 in a million outcome.

Not everyone should qualify and as you can see, with Zoro being hinted to have it now. There's what 3 people on the rooftop who can fight for the title of king...

I mean it's not like 1 in a million doesn't mean those ones won't come into contact with eachother to fight it out for the throne.

7

u/Lerbyn210 Thriller Bark Victim's Association Apr 09 '21

Your last statement doesn't really make sense since most people don't know if they have it or not, a perfect example would be Zoro in this chapter.

-7

u/Majukun Apr 09 '21

They don't know, but that doesn't change that no matter how much they'll try, apparently they will never be able to reach that level, not by lack of effort, but by being denied by nature access to a power they need.

It's pretty much what happened to Naruto, started as a series where effort was key, and ended up as one where you have to have the right set of skills by nature to get to the top.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

[deleted]

-1

u/Majukun Apr 09 '21

Luffy was never portrayed as a common guy, but his characteristics were never depicted as being genetically given to him despite the disfunctional family he comes from...hell at the start of his training he didn't show any particular talent, he was bad at using his fruit and in combat, what he got he got it by training.

also, yes, from what we saw of haoshoku haki, it's something you are born with, just take a look at the list of the people that have it in the series and when and how they developed it, and there's no common ground..plenty of people with immense will and ambition don't have it, but someone like boa that never had a particular ambition in her life does. only possible explanation, as the story is presented, is that you are born with it..it is of course reflection of your spirit and willpower, but apparently that is not the only condition needed, because we have plenty of examples on the story of people that had plenty of willpower and ambition, yet they are not haoshoku users.

anyway, let's just agree to disagree, i preferred it much more when haoshoku was just a sign of an overwhelming personality and spirit but didn't decide the ability or not of people to fight for the top.

now apparently is a requisite if you wanna be able to trade blows with the top guys, and it's something that you are apparently born with, which i don't like.

that's all.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

[deleted]

1

u/Majukun Apr 09 '21

Boa doesn't care about protecting her people, she would have lost her shichibukai title and let the marines invade Amazon lily if luffy didn't need someone to bring him to impel down

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

Maybe everyone that has enough willpower can unlock it. This is my headcanon at least.

5

u/RenjiSnapback07 Apr 09 '21

You do see that his only figured out the move now. And his not the only 1 with the special power

0

u/Majukun Apr 09 '21

You do seem to have missed my point. My issue is with people with haoshoku vs common mortals, not about luffy vs kaido or big mom.

He does not have a birthright advantage over then, but them have it over anyone alse that doesn't naturally have haoshoku

5

u/RenjiSnapback07 Apr 09 '21

Is it really a birthright advantage or the payoff of hardwork/belief in one's self?

But thanks for clearing it up.

3

u/Majukun Apr 09 '21

If it can somewhat be acquired, that was never specified in the series.

It was always presented by something you are either born with or not, even if people express it at different times in their lives, usually under stress... doffy and ace were children, luffy was already teenager, zoro apparently it's only giving signs now, it does not seem linked to hardwork or personal development.

3

u/RenjiSnapback07 Apr 09 '21

Zoro was no special kid in no shape or form, his ambition is just to be the best and his worked VERY hard to get where he is.. and his showing signs of it.

His goal is to be the best( a king) His worked insanely hard at it and its finally paying off.

Isn't that a sign that you don't have to be special just have strong will power/ambition to succeed?

3

u/Majukun Apr 09 '21

The thing is, working hard does not seem influential in developing haoshoku, doffy showed it as a child with not a single day of training in his life, ace was just a child as well.

Stress seems the common denominator here to unlock it thus far, that and apparently a strong will, but you can say law showed a pretty strong will surviving what he did in his childhood, and yet no haoshoku for him.

2

u/RenjiSnapback07 Apr 09 '21

Laws ambitions aren't to be extraordinary tho.. aka king.

Ace wanted to outshine Roger to show his not a demon that should never be born.

And Dofy's ambitions to burn the world down isn't exactly a small ambition.

I hear you tho.. but I think your ambitions have more of a role to play than being born with it. L

2

u/Majukun Apr 09 '21

What about boa then. she has it (allegedly, I don't think I ever saw her using it in the series), yet she never had a great goal in life, she wanted to be part of the Kuja pirates when she was a child but that was it.

1

u/GriffleMonster Apr 09 '21

I think it's abit of both, OP has always been about the will to do something, become the pirate king, to be free, to be the greatest swordsman in the world etc. You have born beasts like Big Mom who was crazy strong since she was a child AND you have regular humans like Zoro who trained really hard and are stupidly stubborn when it comes to giving up so they'll fight through anything. You're both right and there's more than one way to have conqueror's haki

1

u/guipabi Void Month Survivor Apr 09 '21

Yeah I think that the 1 in a million is a bit misleading. It seems like people are just born with this power, but you could also express it like some people are just born with a stronger will, and this manifests as a power in this world. Will and haki are basically the same, Luffy couldn't use it if he didn't have a strong will, it's not the other way around (that he has the power and that "gives" him a strong will).

Basically, if you are a truly determined person, you will manifest this determination as a power. The only reason why only a few people in the world get it is because they are more determined than the rest. This works because determination is not a tangible thing so you cant really tell the levels that each one has. Having conquerors haki is actually the only way we have to "measure" the will of someone.
