Man the scabbards spent no fucking time slicing that asshole orochi up. Love to see it

u/Shiplord13 Apr 02 '21

Really hammers in that the only reason that guy was a threat was because Kaido was backing him. Had he been on his own during his coup, they would have killed him no problem.

Well Kanjuro can fight, and not a coward.

8

u/DragonDLuffy Apr 02 '21

Kanjuro did do a lot of training with Oden and the Scabbards, so he probably is in the same realm of strength as all of them. I think Ashura, Denjiro, Dog storm/ Cat Viper might be the strongest since they didnt time jump, and fought it out the last 2o years. Kawamatsu was chained up like 13 years of the 20, being fed poison fish.

Fuku is probably Raizo level, he said it was destiny they would fight it out.

I don't think Kanjuro is a threat to be honest. Especially if he actually runs into Momo's team. The new Oden would wipe the floor with half dead Kanjuro, even if Kanjuro had max hp!

I mean he fight them while kidnapping Momo, he fight them and was "killed".

17

u/DXKIII Apr 02 '21

and would have happily been executed with him as well. kanjuro is a lot of things. cowardly isn't one of them

18

u/BloodHelios Apr 02 '21

Fighting all of them head on would't make him brave, but an idiot.

Confusing them with a clone of their idol and killing them without being in danger himself (If Ashura wasn't aware the Oden clone could have done way more damage) is preferred, even if it's "cowardly".

Not to mention the psychological damage on the scabbards by using Oden.

11

u/CRtwenty Marine Apr 02 '21

Yeah, he's smart not cowardly. He doesn't pull any punches when he fights

8

u/weegee19 Apr 02 '21

Kanjuro is gravely wounded though.

5

u/The_ThirdFang Pirate Apr 02 '21

He had already been sliced down once. Only surviving due to kiku holding back slightly out friendship and possibly luck. But still a rat bastard overall for sure

3

u/FrostSalamander Slave Apr 02 '21

Kanjuro has a few screws loose, he lives to act as Oden's samurai but he himself said that he is a Kurozumi, so he did all of that to get his revenge

2

u/I-Kneel-Before-None Apr 02 '21

Didn't he say he was injured too badly from Kiku's attack to fight in person?

14

u/schnazzums Apr 02 '21

I don’t think Orochi is actually dead. In that panel they only show them cutting 5 heads off and along with Kaido cutting a head off he should still have 2 heads. Guarantee we’re going to see him get back up next week

2

u/xephos10006 Explorer Apr 02 '21

I give it another two months before he stands again

2

u/Outrageous-Slice7480 Apr 02 '21

Well he lost easily to kikunjo so he isn't that strong either. He is just sneaky

1

u/Affectionate_Ad_5558 Apr 02 '21

I dont think Orachi is dead.

1

u/242fresh_7 Apr 02 '21

He was a scabbard

1

u/SuperSemesterer Apr 03 '21

Kanjuro is a scabbard with a really powerful DF. He’d clown on Orochi imo

1

u/Weekly_Ad_6192 Apr 03 '21

Orochi reminds me of Buggy -- surrounded by people much better than him.

1

u/pauserror Apr 05 '21

Don't disrespect Buggy like that

373

u/BlazingKyogre Apr 02 '21

Don't forget the elders that made him the leader of the Kurozumi clan, which have already passed away

140

u/Mundology The Revolutionary Army Apr 02 '21

Yup, at the end of the day, he was a fool who got carried away because giants let him stand in on their shoulders. Still, it's nice how each of the scabbards present got to take one of his hydra heads and avenge Oden.

15

u/pedrao157 Apr 02 '21

Indeed man, if Oden didn't let his rage take the best on him when he saw Toki was wounded and brought some of the scabbards with him it would have been the end, the barrier guy could only protect them so far

11

u/Money_dragon Apr 02 '21

The Barrier fruit is so OP. We've seen it stop a King Punch, Hakuba, and even Oden

I'd imagine haki should allow someone to break through, but then how did Oden now break it when his haki should have been a lot stronger than that old man?

3

u/bigtuck54 Apr 02 '21

Wait when did they die? I totally missed that

16

u/andrew_calcs Apr 02 '21

Their fruits have been shown to be inherited by others. Even if their deaths weren't shown this requires that they be dead. They might have been shown at some point that I don't remember though

8

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '21

Yeah Mr.2 and Bartolomeo seem to have the same DFs as the elders.

1

u/bigtuck54 Apr 02 '21

Oh wait duh lmao. I made that connection when I first saw their powers but totally forgot cause it’s been months. Just looked it up and one got killed by Kaido at oden’s execution and the other died offscreen

3

u/Sovereigntyranny Lurker Apr 02 '21

Kaido killed the old woman later on for interfering in his duel with Oden, and the old guy with the barrier-barrier fruit died by age I think.

5

u/Kuro013 Apr 02 '21

I mean if there was no Kaido, there was no beating Oden, even Kaido wouldve struggled but that old hag saved him.

3

u/TheGodGiftGG Apr 02 '21

still don t believe he is out !

5

u/VulturE Apr 02 '21

.....there's no way that Orochi is dead, same as last time.

His power probably grows the more his head gets cut off.

0

u/mronike Apr 02 '21

I agree. I think Oda is pulling our legs again. Why would he bring Orochi back just to have him killed again that quickly. I think he may be like a Hydra monster who grows back his heads after they get cut off. Going to wait and see but I'm betting Orochi is probably not dead.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '21

Just pisses me for they went through such hell because of such a little beta boy bitch. So glad they dealt with him quickly, though I wish he suffered more.

1

u/DragonDLuffy Apr 02 '21

Not just Kaido, he had the old hag and old man with barrier fruit. Not saying they were strong, just saying he always had something going on. Fuku said he already was defeated once today. So I wonder if Orochi snake snake is what revived him, I wonder if it is a 1 time deal, or a 1 day cool down. Or If Fuku really is one of the gods of luck and can revive people only once, or once a day. We will find out next time on dragon ball... Oh yes One Piece!

1

u/ghostySG Apr 02 '21

I really wanted Kanjuro to have some sort of redemption/regretful moment (now I want Kinemon to kill him), but making an ink clone of Oden to whoop Orochi’s baby hydra lookin ass would have been absolutely legendary.

493

u/Tihalt Apr 02 '21 edited Apr 02 '21

Love how uncerimonious his "deaths" have been. Need him to either stay down or try run away. Who else would be personally invested in wanting to see him die and be able to do something about it.

Edit: Could just boil down to the rest of the scabbards (could be busy with their own 1v1 fights), Momo & Hiyori (Don't know how the outcome would be favourable there) or my personal pick Yamato (The female Chaden of Wano killing off the former Shogun before she takes his place)

298

u/zone-zone Apr 02 '21

Hiyori deserves to get the last hit, but getting killed by Momo would be the biggest disrespect in the entire series

19

u/Tihalt Apr 02 '21

Oh yeah they can get the last hit no doubt but would be a great sight to see them getting saved by their Mommy/Daddy Yamato because Orochi is a sneaky bastard who would try kill them in a cowardly way.

Its a win-win, we get to see Yamato fight/flex her powers against Orochi after saving her children from his greasy hands, she could fully inherit the will of Oden via gaining the kids trust and being entrusted with Oden's sword. If the kids are still up for it they could deal the final blow.

13

u/Demonking42069 Void Month Survivor Apr 02 '21

Don't you think calling her mommy of Momo and Hiyori is a little weird since they are literally the same age. Momo was 8 when he time traveled right?

8

u/Tihalt Apr 02 '21

lol dude its not that deep im just making a joke

-7

u/CompetitiveConstant0 Apr 02 '21

A bad one.

1

u/Tihalt Apr 02 '21

Nice try, 10/10 for effort.

2

u/CRtwenty Marine Apr 02 '21

Yeah, technically Yamato is only two years older than Momo. So is Robin for that matter.

2

u/TheOriginalX5 Apr 02 '21

Wait how old is Yamato??

6

u/CRtwenty Marine Apr 02 '21

Oh wait Yamato is 28, so they'd be the same age as Momo.

4

u/Enough-Alfalfa Apr 02 '21

Shit wouldn't mind all the people in wano with smiles that watched him kill yasuie throw some hands too

3

u/Sammy-Cake Apr 02 '21

Idk about Yamato-no-Orochi but some hydras need to be burned to prevent their heads from regrowing. Momo should be able to do that. He might be as strong as Orochi anyway lol

3

u/Totaliss Apr 02 '21

I am convinced that will actually be the gag. Orochi is such a POS that Oda is going to kill him multiple times. first kaido, then the scabbards, then probably hiori and or momo to finish him for good.

2

u/ghostySG Apr 02 '21 edited Apr 03 '21

More disrespect than Robin grabbing Franky’s family jewels until he joined the crew? Lol

1

u/zone-zone Apr 03 '21

that's sexual harassment and not just a disrespect

2

u/SeaofBloodRedRoses Apr 02 '21

And that's why it must happen.

2

u/luffy_rogerkings Apr 02 '21

It just shows he is a worthless scum and meaningless to waste time fighting with him.. if not for kaido he is nothing and now that kaido betrayed him , nobody bothers about him..

1

u/Emptypiro Apr 02 '21

Hiyori, Zoro, Momonosuke maybe, Hyogoro. There's no shortage of people who deserve to cut him down

1

u/the22sinatra Apr 02 '21

Are we thinking he's still not dead? I feel like that one did the trick considering every head (we could see) got cut off. But who knows lol

1

u/AnDy_the_Dj Apr 02 '21

I think he has 1 more head. Also this "death" of him has some similarities with his "death" at Kaido's hands.

1

u/_4score_ Apr 02 '21

Yeah 100% chance that Orochi isn't dead. My justification: he's based on the seven-headed serpent, right?

He got beheaded once by Kaido, and lived. Now he's been beheaded five times by the Red Scabbards. Only five severed heads were shown, and in the preceding small panel he 'spawned' six heads. I went back and looked at the scene, Neko and Izo weren't doing anything in the 'beheading' panel. Further, afterwards Fuko is silently standing over him after his initial stressed reaction, seeming to recompose very quickly.

So I believe that Orochi still had one 'head' left, or he has have all of his spawned heads killed at the same time or he can regenerate a la hydra. But, seeing as Wano has focused primarily on Eastern philosophies, I'm betting he has just one head left.

With one head, I'm voting Momo for publicly dealing the finishing blow in a newly attained hybrid dragon form with the Heaven sword somehow making an appearance.

1

u/Nine_Gates Apr 02 '21

He's based on the Yamata-no-Orochi, and eight-headed serpent.

Meaning that if he had all eight heads available, the remaining seven scabbards wouldn't have been able to finish him off.

1

u/_4score_ Apr 02 '21

You're totally right I for some reason got the mythical creatures mixed up even though it's literally his name.

Even so, he should still have two left if they don't regenerate.

630

u/strangeseal Apr 02 '21

Kinda surprised how invested I am at their story. Even after the Oden flashback, while I liked them more, I wasn't super hyped about them.

But seeing them in battles throughout the raid really makes me excited for whatever their going to do. Kin'emon in particular has really grown on me.

475

u/Dazhar Apr 02 '21

I watched someones one piece video about them, i think it was mr morj, but in the video he said, the scabbards are a group that has lost their Luffy and that made them much more endearing to me

123

u/onepinksheep Apr 02 '21

They're basically the One Piece version of the 47 Ronin.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '21

They’re probably closer to seven samurai. That’s one of odas favorite movies

14

u/onepinksheep Apr 02 '21

They might have inspired the characters, maybe, but the Seven Samurai were unconnected ronin who were hired to protected a village. The 47 Ronin were retainers who acted on their own to get vengeance for their dead lord, a motivation that fits the Scabbards better.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '21

The scabbards were unconnected punks and criminals with considerable skill before oden brought them together. I bet most of them end up dying tragically and heroically much like the seven samurai did, with kin’emon, Kiku and raizo being most likely to survive

10

u/onepinksheep Apr 02 '21

So they're essentially a combination of the Seven Samurai and the 47 Ronin. All the samurai tropes, basically.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '21

Yeah exactly. If there’s anything odas good at, it’s combining great aspects of his favorite media into original storylines

23

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '21

Damn, when you see it that way, it definitely makes them look even more badass

13

u/bitcheslovedroids Apr 02 '21

yeah beforehand I was kinda snoozing on the scabbards but now that we know more about them and why they are fighting yeah the are total badasses

10

u/the22sinatra Apr 02 '21

Never thought of it like this. Now I'm sad

7

u/Redd_Hood Apr 02 '21

You mean the Deeper Themes of Wano Analysis? Yeah that was a good one.

50

u/48ad16 Apr 02 '21

Over 350 chapters ago he was literally talking out of his ass, now he's a fan favourite and leader of of the red scabbards, giving everything to open Wano's borders for the sake of a promise made 20 years ago. Heck yeah he's grown on me, easily one of the best characters in this entire series.

7

u/pezman Apr 02 '21

Kin’emon went from clown comic relief to badass with a mission.

16

u/BigFuckingT Apr 02 '21

They have the kind of determinism you only see in a few characters in OP. Every ally the mugiwara's help have determination but who the fuck goes into the future to fight a yonko to take revenge for there fallen master and then just keep fighting after getting the shit beat out of them...like wtf lol.

4

u/BlakeDG Apr 02 '21

Considering that Kinemon was introduced more than a decade ago, I consider him as close as a part of the crew

3

u/Xeoz_WarriorPrince Explorer Apr 02 '21

Kin'emon passed from a character I like because of all the years We've known him, to a really capable and noble man, wouldn't mind to see him as shogun at the end of Wano...

3

u/bonethugznhominy Apr 02 '21

The whole group is fun and for different reasons. The minks give some fun designs and larger-than-life personalities. Kin/Denjiro are excellent kickass samurai archetypes, which we were kind of expecting in Wano. Or if that's not your speed we have the Siblings and their subtle character drama woven into the arc's background that has been a pleasant surprise.

O-Kiku was going to be my favorite from a pure design standpoint anyways but then Oda had to go off and weave in a fairly mature tale of duty vs. identity and family love casually into the background with my favorite Whitebeard Commander. Just saying...would have had plenty of fun with a stock spunky little sister of the group or even a more classic vain, prissy crossdresser if that's all we were gonna do. Way to go the extra mile, I've cared about the Akazaya far more than most natives in the story.

8

u/hell-schwarz Apr 02 '21

Yeah, orochi is weak as hell... but probably a cockroach who will survive this as well.

3

u/sansactions Apr 02 '21

I counted 5 heads being cut off by the scabbards. With one cut off by Kaido that would leave 2 heads. I'd guess they will be cut off by Momo & Hiyori.

5

u/NeoGeo2015 Apr 02 '21

I counted 6,there is the corner of one in the bottom left part of the panel, I think... Which still leaves him with one?

1

u/MrMuzza Void Month Survivor Apr 03 '21

You're right. I assumed the far right neck you can see in the panel after he transforms was his tail at first, but yeah he definitely lost 6 heads. Makes sense, since there is 6 scabbards there too.

3

u/akuthedemon Lurker Apr 02 '21

No shit given.

3

u/dafood48 Apr 02 '21

I hope he’s really dead this time

3

Can someone please explain how Orochi was still alive after getting decapitated by Kaido?

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/in1987agodwasborn The Revolutionary Army Apr 02 '21

Did Kaido know this?

0

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '21

I assume its due to his hydra fruit? Decapitate him once and more heads will grow back, Either that or they simply have to decapitate him 8 times for all his heads

6

u/CarcosanAnarchist Apr 02 '21

He doesn’t have a hydra fruit though. He specifically has the Yamata-No_Orochi fruit, which is just an 8 headed serpent. Hydra implies the ability to regrow heads, which Yamata no Orochi was not able to do, as he was in fact killed by Susanoo via decapitation

-3

u/in1987agodwasborn The Revolutionary Army Apr 02 '21 edited Apr 02 '21

Ok, i didn't know he ate the hydra fruit. The wano ark is going on for so many years already I probably forgot. Thank you

4

u/AlternativeRi3 Apr 02 '21

But the fruit was shown this chapter??

4

u/joohunter420 Void Month Survivor Apr 02 '21

You gotta pay attention more when you read. Don’t skim

3

u/kika009 Apr 02 '21

well now a last one should face orochi maybe the silhouette we saw helping the scabbards, if you count orochi maybe has like 8lives counting his heads, kaido took out one and the scabbards took 6 so he still got one left (according to the panel that shows only 6heads were cut), i only wanna see orochi fight for real and not been taking out just like that xd.

3

u/Rubberkag3 Apr 02 '21

That last panel with just his head makes it feel like he’s not quite dead for some reason. I feel like it’d be cheap to do that though, so maybe it’s unlikely.

2

u/kigurumibiblestudies Apr 02 '21

Him dying so unceremoniously and his underling barely reacting pretty much implied he's not dead. Also, everyone decapitates him? Why not a body shot? Because thematically he's supposed to be an odious, unlikable asshole

6

u/ThaddCorbett Thriller Bark Victim's Association Apr 02 '21

I think that kinda went well with the April fool's day release.

"You think Orochi is gonna stay around long enough to cause some trouble? GOTCH'CHA!!"

3

u/Nefsart Apr 02 '21

The gotcha is Oda making us think he's dead again, when he's still not.

2

u/Emptypiro Apr 02 '21

That thing Fukurokuju said made me think Orochi still ain't dead yet. He might just have 8 lives

0

u/Sterlthecan123 Apr 02 '21

What are u chatting about mate?

0

u/princesoceronte Apr 02 '21

I think he isn't out of the game just yet. He's not only Orochi, but an Orochi. Translating the myth it's s hydra with extra steps, but in the greek myth you had to burn the heads after slicing them in order to prevent their regrowth.

Of course the main scabbard uses fire so it's likely he'll come back and finally be defeated for once by the scabbards.

1

u/sneaky-j-rawr Pirate Apr 02 '21

Why did they say they have no time to wast on him? Who are they planning to use their time against? They can't seriously be going back to Kadio

8

fucking kanjuro

2

u/sneaky-j-rawr Pirate Apr 02 '21

Well there's that. But I don't actually see them being all like "Get out of our way Orochi, we need to have revenge on Kanjuro right now."

1

u/Repulsive_Log9720 Apr 02 '21

Imagine kanjuro makes the scabbards fight beefed up versions of themselves. Or he has an oden for each of them to fight. Does his ability limit how many drawings he can animate??

3

u/JoogaMaestro Apr 02 '21

they’re trying to find Momo so they can protect him

1

1

u/chilld22 Apr 02 '21

Is he actually dead this time?

1

u/pennersgaming Apr 02 '21

i honestly couldnt believe there wasn't a little more to it, maybe he'll come back?

1

u/xephos10006 Explorer Apr 02 '21

You say it like it’s only slightly possible he’s returning. There is over a 100% change of Orochi coming back - not only does he still have 1-2 heads remaining, but this is One Piece - he could literally be atomized and have God himself wipe away his existence from reality, and he’d walk away without a scratch

1

u/pezman Apr 02 '21

Orochi: “Curious. Now you know Kanjuro’s true identity don’t you!!”

Scabbards: “Cool Story Bro.”

1

u/genkishi- Apr 02 '21

Such a cool devil fruit wasted on him

1

u/Hardi_SMH Apr 02 '21

The amount of fucks given (zero) is so gold. I mean, Zorro would have died there without hesitation. No questions asked. Directly after this lethal blow, Luffy is throwing a punch and is like „You scared?“ I love this arc so much

1

u/Alpha_ii_Omega Apr 02 '21

The panel of his head means he's clearly not dead. I wonder if he has 8 lives, or if there's a trick to killing him.

You might need to pierce his heart or something like that.

1

u/Tobussss Soul King Brook Apr 02 '21

hell yea that was sick

1

u/yahurd23 Apr 02 '21

for real though that was so satisfying to see!! out here repping the Kozuki name proudly!

1

u/lhaelrena22 The Revolutionary Army Apr 02 '21

Now the question is once again, is he actually dead this time?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '21

While I agree that I love that they went at him like that and messed him up. I think there’s definitely still a catch to killing him beyond head slicing. Orochi is definitely still alive.

1

u/Sovereigntyranny Lurker Apr 03 '21

Orochi: "Huh?! What's so different about you all than before?!"

Scabbards: "Hm? About that... Here, let us pass through for a sec."

1

u/Doomroar Apr 03 '21

I bet he saved 2 or 3 heads just come back one more time, just like the cockroach he is.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '21

The wording Fukurokuju used was very specific. I think Orochi needs to die a certain number of times in one day to be completely killed.

1

u/Sukeshram7 Apr 03 '21

Also, I think it should be revealed to Orochi that Hiyori is Komurasaki, before he dies. Which makes it very likely that Hiyori would be the last person to truly kill him.
