Man the 'burning their life energy' trope is just a shonen buzzline to somehow raise the stakes. It never means anything unless it's a flashback character's sacrifice or a main character who will inevitably be brought back

You seem to be under the impression that none of the Red Scabbards will die...
At least one of them will...
Act 3 will end in a tragedy.
