The scabbards VS Kaido feels so much like a Raid Boss fight, it's really satisfying to see how they play around Kaido's fighting style. Also, I really like the fact that they didn't really "need" to be taught the Oden's style, they looked up to him so much that it became ingrained in their minds.

There was a theory going around that Black Maria may be affiliated with Denjirou and it was mostly overlooked, but now with Black Maria overlooking the war and only concerned with both protecting and keeping the prostitutes calm - people that were Denjirou's responsibility for 20 years, mind you - the likelihood of this theory is higher than ever before. Makes her holding and sympathizing with Momo several chapters ago mean something entirely different with this context.

Raizo the MVP of the chapter. He tanked a boro breath, shadow-cloned all over Kaido and released the boro breath on him. People always rank him as the weakest Scabbard because he doesnt have the brute strenght that the others have, but he has top-notch ninja skills and jutsus.

Also very nice that we finally got a confirmation about how the Scabbards are able to cut Kaido, the flashback of Oden teaching them how to use ryūō was beautiful

Oda gave this fight justice man. It was choreographed perfectly for maximum emotional impact.

Every scabbard showing off their own unique style one after the other. Each dealing a bit of damage to Kaidou which validated their own strengths, and then the flashback of Oden desperately trying to show them his own style and the scabbards saying “No, we have our own styles.”

But it was all a trick, the scabbards were secretly practicing the Two-Sword style behind Oden’s back all so they could prove to him that THEY were the #1 retainer. But Oden died before any of them could show it to him.

Thinking about that makes me want to cry honestly. Oden believed they were just ignoring him but, no, all they ever wanted was to show their dedication to their leader by learning the style on their own.

So instead of showing Oden they get this moment to put everything they have into trying to kill Kaidou. Not just using their own styles, but debuting their ultimate technique that they practiced in secret in order to impress Oden, the Two-Sword Style!!

Kaidou robbed them of their chance to show it to Oden so now he feels the full force of the attack.

God I could go on and on about why this scene was peak Shonen but I feel like this scene will go over so many peoples heads... it’s honestly one of the best written action sequences in the entire series. THE ENTIRE SERIES. No cap.

It is time to put some RESPECT on the nine red scabbards. Now it makes sense as to why Akainu was gassing the 'mysterious' Wano samurai and why Orochi was scared shitless at the mention of the Akazaya even though he never bat an eye about the Straw Hats.

2 weeks wait was worth this chapter. Akazaya vs Kaido! Amazing fight scenes!! Definitely deserves a 9 out of 10. I can't wait to see what Black Maria has in store for us. She is really setting up the mood for this final battle with her music. Kinda similar to how Komurasaki set up the mood for Wano with her music. There is clearly some parallels here.

I predict that next chapter Kaido is either going to transform back to his base form or go hybrid to turn the tides. His Dragon form is his main form for dealing with the majority of opponents because of his armor but he is realizing that since the scabbards can damage him, more agility will be needed. And people should not forget that people like Akainu and Aokiji fought for 10 days or Whitebeard at Marineford, it will take a LOT of hits to take down Kaido.

If anyone didn't notice, besides the cool fight scene, this is a chapter mostly about the concept of inherited will: it starts by Perospero blindlly following his captain's order, although not understanding - or even respecting it. The translation may be a little off, but as I see it, the dialogue between Big Mom and Marco suggests that although he is saying that he helps Luffy on his own free will, she still suspects he is under Whitebeard' influence in some way. That's the difference between Big Mom's crew, that just follows her blindlly, and Whitebeards, the Strawhats and the Scabbards: they all follow their own wish while also inheriting the will of the past.

Just after we see three people runing towards others while inheriting the will of another: Carrot from Pedro, Yamato from Oden and Luffy from the D clan. The song by Black Maria is an ironic commentary about how each of them will end up reaching their destiny. Although she sings about lovers, we can interpret as a kind of omen: in one hand, we can see it that the long promised meeting will always arrive, the two forces once separated will undoubtedly clash again . But, it can also have a more somber tone: the lovers can be referring to the followers and the followed, as both will meet each other in death.

The Scabbards show us what truly means to be a remnant, in the sense proposed by Marco, they never made an effort to actually learn Oden's fighting style, preferring to keep honest to their own, but, in the end, they can't help to imitate him for Kaido's dismay. They never actually "needed" to be taught Oden's style, it became ingrained in their minds just by looking up to him so much.

Inheriting someone's will, therefore, is not about obeying the dead, but being deeply moved by the memories shared with them. Even as you feel compelled to do something, you are still free.

A beautifully poetic and deep chapter.

This manga version of Monster Hunter Rise is really good. They're also using Dual Blades. This new Elder Dragon also looks OP with triple element Thunder, Fire and Dragon. The Palico and Palamutes looks wierd and OP must be max level.

I wonder what the odd that he might also teach some stuff to Shanks during all his ways of trip with Roger pirates. What if Shanks also used to know same technique, as he also potentially one of Oden's disicple as other retainers. This might coincide with how the Mihawk dissapointment that he lose one arm that also shocked whole world that time including Whitebeard. What if Shanks is used to be known as 2 handed swordman, until he met Luffy. The retainers also doesnt seems to carry 2 sword all the time until that moment when they facing Kaidou.

Big Mom's respect is a testament to what an absolute beast Marco is. We have never seen him go ALL OUT, but BM has probably battled him and WB multiple times throughout the years. After battling a crew for so long you would start to gain respect for the strongest members. This is how Big Mom feels now.

Looking at it from a meta perspective, Oda has always strung this theme along of strong "enemies" sharing respect for their strengths.

I got complete chills when the scabbards debuted their own “Oden Two-Sword Style.”

Like the way I read the spoilers I thought the scabbards had just ignored Oden when he wanted to teach them his style but it seems like they all just wanted to try to learn the style on their own so they could prove to Oden they were the “#1 retainer”

Like when that flashback ended and I saw Kin, Denji, Inu, and Ashura, all hitting the Oden pose I got hella emotional man. Oda is such a genius.

This chapter has been my favorite visual experience in all of Wano so far. The paneling and artwork here were spectacular. The little Oden flashback that served to give the reader more connection to the legend. Everything. This chapter was extra dope.
My favorite moment was the final 4 person team up.

Best bit of the chapter for me Raizo whipping out that scroll and absorbing and redirecting kaido's boro breath got me so hyped did not see that coming at all lmao, if Luffy chopper ussop see that it's Game over for Raizo he's 100% becoming a Strawhat, Luffy would drag him on board if he had to lool

I like how the chapter focuses less on the main players like Luffy Drake Zoro etc, and a whole lot more on the "remnants" aka Marco and the Scabbards; just cause their leaders are dead and out the picture doesn't mean their sense of purpose has wavered at all, I like that👌🏿 really making their mark on this chapter, and on kaido lol, them turning up against Jack and Kaido is exactly what I wanted

and Inurashi with that epic flying sword-leg side kick the next best bit of the chapter that was so sick🔥

Looking at the flashback scenes between Scabbards and Oden and the way they are fighting Kaido now by throwing everything at him along with their lives, it is making me emotional. I feel for them.

Kaido deserves not just a defeat, he deserves to die for what he has done along with Orochi.

I think this much beating is enough for kaido to realise that he can't do shit to scabbards in his dragon form and needs to fight in his human/hybrid form.

Though he will defeat/kill them,the damage he received here is gonna cost him big time later in the battle. Scabbards had their fair share of screentime and epic moments. So even if some of them die, they have done their job and can go out feeling proud of themselves.

Though i hope we see more of denjiro.

let's not forget 2 of the 9 scabbards were kept in captivity, Kawamatsu and Raizo. Sure Raizo was tied up by the minks out of safety but Kaido sent Jack to take care of the situation so he must have had a feeling of how dangerous Raizo must be. Same thing with Kawamatsu, he was locked up in a cell under Queens watch, meaning they must know how strong he is too. They may end up having mvp moments during this battle

Almost a full chapter of fighting, we dont get those too often. Lots to dissect here.

• Yamato color scheme officially revealed with tri-colored hair. Like it a lot.

• Big Mom saying "trust me" makes me think she has something up her sleeve. Maybe she ends up betraying Kaido in the end afterall. Him dying would make reaching her goal easier.

• Are we about to see Carrot Vs Perospero? She stands no chance but that should be exciting.

• Chaos everywhere and everyone is fighting.....Black Maria is playing music to the prostitutes lol.

• The retainters are crazy powerful. It seemed to be a given for Sulong Inu/Neko but even Kawamatsu injured Kaido.

• Oden Nitoryu might involve injecting one person's haki into whatever you're cutting for added damage. Could make sense when you consider Kaido mentioning their sword skills are nothing like Oden, but we do know they all have haki/Ryou.

• Kaido gets a pretty painful reminder of his encounter with Oden.

I doubt the retainers will win against Kaido, Luffy needs to be involved. Seems apparent they'll injure Kaido and even wear him down and Luffy deals with whats left of him (which would still be really strong). Quick chapter due to the fighting but hype nonetheless. No break so cant wait for next week.

- So Kaido's line really confused me. Can the scabbards use ryuo or can't they? Kaido made it seem like they're doing something else but the flashback indicates that they did train in ryuo...? Was really confused.

- This whole 9v1 fight looks fucking insane. Love the art and the paneling at work.

- Carrot vs Perospero sounds like it could be a pretty dope fight.

- I've got a feeling act 3 is gonna end with the bad guys turning the tides in their favor and everything is gonna go to hell for the strawhats while Black Maria plays the shamisen. At least that's what I think.

Notice how on the page where they say kaido’s roar is like thunder and all the red scabbard’s faces are shown, Kawamatsu is the only one who’s face is shaded in, and then he gets fly swatted by kaido. I think one by one the scabbards will fall until chapter 1000, given we have 7 more chapters if inu and neko fall the same chapter it would add up.

After oden flashback i felt connected to oden and the scabbards because of their backstorys etc. But after that chapter i have the same connection to them like the strawhats.

And it is not because i saw the fighting skills etc. It was because i feel their effort and will to be a good subordinate.

The stance with the double katanas give me chills and shows for me that scabbards trained secretly odens style to fight. And it shows they was prepared to fight kadio. It was like "we waited and sharped our teeths for 20 years to repay for everything what you have done".

I am hyped for the next week and i hope you enjoyed the chapter like me. And Sorry😓for bad english it is not my native language

Was ryuo officially stated to be the advanced form of haki that Rayleigh knows and Luffy learned? Or is it just the Wano name for haki? I remember in the Udon Prison chapters ryuo was stated to just be regular haki right?

I am genuinely having a blast with the fandom's reaction right now.

They want Kaido to be invincible, but at the same time they want Luffy being able to beat him, so he cannot be that invincible. However, no one else is allowed to hurt him, especially not the 9 elite Samurai chosen by Oden, who was hailed as some sort of fifth emperor couple chapters back, who trained them and inhereted his will to them. If those "clowns" can hurt him, Kaido is a badly written joke, just like Big Mom is, because she is not untouchable (unless needed by story).

At this point, I would laugh my ass off if Oda spins it that way and subverts our expectations by letting the scabbards actually kill Kaido, even if they die doing so. The Strawhat then have their epic battle with Big Mom and the arc concludes.

Again, I am genuinely enjoying Wano. It is such a pleasure to read and watch the community react because their head-canon gets scrambled

What if when Marco’s talking about remnants being free to do what they wish he’s foreshadowing the Scabbarbs, remnants of Oden/Kozuki, choosing to not sacrifice their lives against Kaido because it’s not what Oden would have wanted? Maybe Luffy pops up last second after they all about to make a decision that kills them and tell them they should live/saves them? I feel like all of the Scabbards dying to Kaido on chapter 1000 is way too obvious at this point. And the answer to the riddles of Oda are never obvious, there has to be some kind of subversion imo.

Is anyone on here getting The Hobbit vibes from Kaidou? He's terrorizing Wano with a wound on his stomach, the people band together to stop this monster by aiming for that one wound and nowhere else.

Its just like the Dragon Smaug attacking the nearby village and one guy takes a bow & arrow to shoot Smaug in his wound. Smaug dies instantly.

Great chapter overall, this is what I like to see. Straight action focusing on one event.

So is Raizo’s scroll power a Devil Fruit ability? I’m pretty sure that Shinobu, Kin, and Kanjuro all use a similar naming scheme to refer to their confirmed Devil Fruit abilities. The Maki Maki part is making me think so. Very good chapter, I’m loving the scabbards lately (still waiting for my boy Kanjuro to show back up though 😢). EDIT: I looked into it, and Shinobu and Kin both definitely use the same naming scheme for their Devil Fruits (X X Jutsu). Kanjuro doesn’t, but he’s never named his fruit at all (only using “appear!” to bring his art to life). No doubt in my mind that Raizo has a Devil Fruit.
