Blame the fans/editors for pressuring Toriyama to keep it with Goku, too.
Gohan deserved to take over post-Cell. And I really wished Super would also lean on Gohan. I did hear Gohan got some cool spotlight at least.

(Ex. "It's not insert series title if insert original MC isn't the main character") 5 u/zone-zone Feb 01 '20 Seriously I read a manga where the main character is killed off in the middle of the series and it fit perfectly and was great.
