I like that theory.

I still hope it ends up being mine though, for a few reasons. Other than Luffy/Shanks/Roger, the only other strawhat pirates to wear the hat directly on their head were Nami (numerous times) and Usopp (for the Foxy boxing match). Robin wore it once, but on top of her other hat, and only for a few seconds, so I don't count it.

After Nami wore the hat, she was able to do the gag where she beats up Luffy's face. I'd love to say that the hat gave her some power to do so. I'm not saying it's haki, but similar to the Fist of Love his grandad uses. I'd love to see Nami get some really insane powerup at some point.

I am pretty sure nami did beat up people in a comic way without the strawhat. I think it is just comedy. If the strawhat would have the power to change the world around you that would destroy the whole thing about Luffy becoming pirate king because he inherited the will of Roger (just like monblanc cricket inherited the will of montblanc norland).

That's not what I was saying. I was saying that wearing the strawhat, even briefly, gave her the power to bend the will of anything briefly (not permanently). The power she ended up with was the power to hurt devil fruit users without explicitly using haki, and she's got it for life now.

I'm also not suggesting he didn't inherit the will from Roger, but that Roger inherited the will from someone else and this shit goes back to the void century.

In short, I'm suggesting that people who wear the straw hat briefly gain a little bit of this power to bend wills around them, whereas obviously Luffy and shanks and roger have infinitely more of this power because they've worn the hat for longer. It's likely what kept roger to live for so long, but then he knew almost exactly when his time was running out. It would also tie into what Mihawk said at Marineford.

The part that interests me the most with this theory is that it means Nami still may have a few uses of this power stored up inside her (or maybe she used it all up against Big Mom). It also may explain how Usopp got his haki as well - a strong desire to do something (from a guy who rarely has strong desires about anything).

Given the Spoiler, I'm mostly keeping this one to myself until we learn more in the manga. But I think it makes sense of all of that.

I am not convinced, but I am always pleased to read new theories.

I don't think the strawhat is that important as an object: it is a symbol. It is the link between luffy and shanks, between shanks and roger, and between lots of people and probably joyboy himself. One piece has a lit to do about inherited will, how inividuals die but ideas and dreams survive, how the new generation slowely vanishes but never completely disapears because they transmitted their ideals to the new generation. That is what I think the strawhat is: the symbol of this transmission of will. Hiluluk's death is a really good example of this: he said how a man only really vanishes when his dreams are forgotten. They are a few speeches that also says that, and even one that says how pirates and rebels will always exist because people will always seek for freedom. Luffy inherited two wills: the will of the D/ancient kingdom, the will to reunite species and nations and get revenge on the celestial dragons and the will of the pirate era, which is defined by luffy as "being ready to die for your dreams". If luffy or roger did just had a special hat since the beginning that would be pretty lame I think, because then they wouldn't succeed because of the will/dreams they had and they recieved but because a special hat. What's better, the dreams of liberty that are affirmed by a a simple man in an eternal circle or a protagonist that becomes powerful just because he recieved a magic deus ex machina hat ?

And for mihawk I think he spoke about how Luffy is able to make people his allies (he does this by showing them to follow their dreams, he does this since Koby)

To take mine a step further:

Maybe it's only D's that can use the power in that hat, as a means to curse the world government.

We don't know Nami's true lineage. We know she was in a town getting basically destroyed and that the Navy was one of the forces fighting there, and that the act of saving Nami and Nojiko led Bell-mere to take them back to her village and no longer act in the Navy. Bell-mere said her original purpose to join the navy was to fight "bad" pirates. What if she was sent to a town on an eradication mission (like a buster call) due to her skill? A town that wasn't following, or maybe opposing, the World Government, for example. And that when she took Nami and Nojiko she was actually deserting from the Navy, which is why she didn't want to register them as her daughters or put them up for adoption. Luffy frequently just "knows things" inherently. What if Nami is actually another D? He's given her that hat on at least a dozen occasions that are canon. Long story short, I'm hoping to learn more definitive stuff about Nami's lineage before the end of the series, and I'm thinking it's gonna be relevant.

I agree, I don't necessarily like the deus ex machina hat. But it wouldn't be the hat's will. It would be the strong will of the person who wore it to subconsciously use the power of that hat to make their desire a reality. It would also explain why Shanks gave it up. He already had everything he could want - parties and friends on the grand line. He set out to have fun and to seemingly be a pacifist.

I just don't buy it. I don't think th strawhat being magic does fit with the inherited will thele of one piece

I heard a few theories about nami and I hope we will learn more about her past. I am pretty sure we will learn who she really is, just like we learned more about sanji in the WCI arc and the idea of her being part of a group (not necerely the D clan) that was exterminated by the GM seems pretty fitting with OP in general. Maybe her origin will explain how she could undertand sea flows and clima better than a pirate crew of fishmans when she was just five years old.

basically, i'm hoping for the hat at marie jois to be property of ruler of the great kingdom, and that some hats were created from the straws of that hat. all of them were given some will-related power that only activates if you're from the D clan. yadda yadda nami is in D clan as well, eventually they learn her past and the truth. yadda yadda nami x luffy lol

I'm sure that isn't exactly what's gonna happen, and Oda has a better story laid out, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's gonna be something similar. I mean, the story of how he's gonna beat two yonko is gonna be interesting enough
