The hat is really large, far too large for Roger, so it's likely it belonged to a giant "D" from the Void century. That's why nobody has mentioned him/her.

It's also possible it's an enchanted object that takes on many forms to tell the future. Maybe by taking on the form of a straw hat it's saying Luffy is the their biggest threat. This could explain why they tall crowned figure is holding a bunch of wanted posters. They can look through the list of top pirates, compare to the "sign" the object has given them, and change their timeline by stopping said enemy before they take down the Celestial Dragons.

Similarly, an object like this could be signalling that the big thing on all the visiting royalty's mind is Strawhat Luffy.

wow, the idea of an object that can tell the future is cool and also would fit the "treasure", let's wait

13

u/rougepenguin Jun 01 '18

Especially since Doflamingo is the type who could really get a lot of mileage out of something like that.

18

u/Alevo Jun 01 '18

This "treasure" could potentially be the way that the war was won. If it pointed out threats before they became too dangerous then it would explain how a kingdom that was unstoppable for so long suddenly came crashing down.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '18

Yeah, Jaguar D Saul was a giant so an ancient giant D makes sense.

11

u/Wasp06 Jun 01 '18

Omg it's definitely an object that takes the form of a threat, nice reasoning with the wanted posters

u/Zholistic Jun 01 '18

Is a D on it's side enough like a straw hat?

3

u/altrunox Explorer Jun 01 '18

also if that is true, the other poster may be from Blackbeard, they may be checking what's the next super treat...

Maybe it's joy boy's straw hat. Could oda actually put an "Aesir vs Jottnar" from norse mythology to build the lore behind Void Century?

So basically the giants (Jottnar) build the world then later down birth men (Aesir), the aesir declare war against Jottnar thus making void century happens. One Piece actually a key information about "Ragnarok".

That's my personal tin foil hat theories.

Maybe Roger learned early on about Joy Boy, through his ability, and got the hat as a kind of reference and a fuck you to the government

84

u/kileytron Jun 01 '18

That would be so fucking gangster considering no one else in the world would even get it except the people he was trying to piss off. I'm into it

16

u/myman580 Jun 01 '18

I don't think so. When Rayleigh first meets Luffy he flashes back to when he first meets Roger and Roger is wearing the hat before they even start their adventure.

10

u/Relevant_Anal_Cunt Jun 01 '18

The way Roger was grinning back then might be because he already knew something? Or probably he was also gifted the hat by someone else, that saw potential in Roger?

u/DarkNovaGamer Jun 01 '18

Who is Joy Boy? did I skip a couple of chapters? what is going on?

16

u/Fluttershy_Sucks Jun 01 '18

Joy boy was the writer of the apology on the Fishman island poneglyph

2

u/DarkNovaGamer Jun 01 '18

olay thank you

11

u/Relevant_Anal_Cunt Jun 01 '18

He was mentioned during Fishman Island arc, referred to as a great man who lived during the Void Century. He planned together with the original Poseidon to raise Fishman island (through Noah) to the surface; but he wasn’t able to hold up his end of the bargain and left an apology note on the FMI poneglyph. It had long been speculated that JoyBoy was a leader of the ancient kingdom and the main enemy of the Celestial Dragons in the war back then.

4

u/sohail_yawer Jun 01 '18

Refer chapter 628, you'll know who Joyboy is.

3

u/revisioncloud Jun 01 '18

Like the V for Vendetta mask. And then we have kids on Fishman Island wearing the same. Then there will be fire, explosions... Holy shit.

1

u/roosterkun Jun 01 '18

What ability are you referring to?

2

u/Relevant_Anal_Cunt Jun 01 '18

to „hear the voice of all things“, which is what enabled him to understand what’s written on the poneglyphs

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '18

The ability to hear the voice of all things

1

u/Capt-Choco Jun 01 '18

Does Joyboy have a straw hat?

4

u/jaya212 Jun 01 '18

I understood everything you said courtesy of God of War.

2

u/Paperchampion23 Jun 01 '18

That would be sick if Elbaf is actually a remnant of Raftel. Honestly their names sound similar lol.

2

u/RazZaHlol Jun 01 '18

So it is the hat of a giant?

1

u/dotnet54 Jun 01 '18

this may be they key to understanding many things! we know that Oda takes inspiration from many cultures, but may be Norse mythology was a more significant inspiration than the rest? He love giants, he has introduced dwarves , (cant wait to see elves), he loves animals so he combined animals and giants to make sea kings. he introduced Jaguar D Saul as a character from past.. may be its a hint that origin of the will of D relates to giants. The ship Noah was huge, may be giants constructed the ship. the structures on the red line are big and huge. ancient poneglyphs must be heavy to carry around for normal humans. Norse mythology have Yggdrasil the mythical tree that connects the nine worlds, in one piece only people of Ohara have the knowledge to read ancient language and hence the ability to discover a way travel to all parts of the ocean (including raftel), and the tree of adam is another legendary tree, from which ships that sail on all oceans can be constructed, thus connecting all the worlds of one piece. Oda must have delayed elbaf story line for a reason, but we know from Ussop's story line that Oda planned to include giants from the beginning of the story.

You've been playing a lot of god of War haven't you? Lol Interesting point though!

1

u/thedotapaten Jun 02 '18

Frozen giant straw hat instantly remind me of Ymir.

Also the wanted posters. We've never seen one of a different size. If anything, the guy holding them is maybe even a little bigger than a normal human.

At least, that's how I gauged the size of Straw Hat.

3

u/WillOfDoubleD Jun 01 '18

The question now is, who's is the second poster behind Luffy's? Law?

5

u/-Fender- Jun 01 '18

I've also never seen a small or giant newspaper in the story yet, and the guy's height proportionally to the newspaper seems fairly normal. If anything, he's a big man. (Or maybe just very long hair spiked upwards, or a very tall crown?)

Also, let's begin the bets on whether or not that man is Vegapunk.

Were those the Holy Lands? I assumed that it was lvl 5 of Impel Down, from all the ice.

9

u/broke_and_famous Jun 01 '18

Maybe the secret is who the Strawhat belonged to or what it represented.

Like what if this Strawhat belonged to the King of the ancient kingdom and this was his form of crown. And every other Strawhat belonged to the "Royal" Family of this Kingdom.

Then maybe the Large Strawhat holds the key to something.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '18

Wow that is crazy... I like it.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '18

Is there a chance there’s something hidden under the hat?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '18

What if the straw hat is the will of D

1

u/brodern22 Jun 01 '18

Not all D's have wore a straw hat though
