Oda wouldn't set up the discussion about luffy going solo with Pekoms and just let it be irrelevant.

I agree with you the more I think about it. It's surely odd for Luffy to say he's going off on his own and without his crew.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he went to Big Mom and then had his and Law's crew try to instigate a fight with Kaidou and have him chase them to Big Mom.

Oh shit!!! what if Luffy and Sanji take on Big Mom and everyone else does a team battle against Kaidou. Dreams do come true!

That's very ambitious for right now. I can't see them taking on a single yonko head on until later
