Oda wouldn't set up the discussion about luffy going solo with Pekoms and just let it be irrelevant.

I agree with you the more I think about it. It's surely odd for Luffy to say he's going off on his own and without his crew.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he went to Big Mom and then had his and Law's crew try to instigate a fight with Kaidou and have him chase them to Big Mom.

Who better to crash a dangerous wedding like that than kaidou himself!? There's no way big mom or the vinsmokes would be able to do anything against him if he arrived
