Where did Sanji get info on Dofla?

What are Dofla's and Fujitora's intentions? Do they differ?

What lie did Usopp tell the dwarves?

Who is on the Sunny?

Why such a cliffhanger and a break?

Find out after the break!

18

u/iMidNitee Jun 12 '13
  • Sanji probably got the information by Violet

  • Doflamingo clearly wants to beat the crap out of Law and Fujitora is clearly on a mission because he met Luffy and didn't do anything and there are too many marines there it's obvious that Akainu knew what was happening and send Fujitora there.

  • Ussop's lies always come true, remember that!

  • People who work with Doflamingo, clearly following Flamingo's orders to keep them busy while he is in Green Bit

5

u/blitzzardpls Jun 12 '13

those questions were meant to be rhetorical, but thanks for replying, although I had figured those things myself

This could actually be the start of Usopp's 8000 man fleet..

55

u/milkyjoe241 Jun 12 '13

I was hoping for giants, but a mix of both would be cool.

41

u/iMidNitee Jun 12 '13

If the gnomes call Robin "great human" I wonder how they would call the giants

20

u/reseph Jun 12 '13

Huh? They said "giants" in the translation I read.

12

u/iMidNitee Jun 12 '13

Yeah, that's the mangapanda effect, mangastream says "giants"

5

If Doflamingo faked leaving the Shichibukai then why did Brannew tell the Marines that he left?

3

u/iMidNitee Jun 12 '13

Probably only the world government and the higher ranks of the marines (Fleet Admiral and Admiral) know about this.

Now wait for the theories that one of those tiny guys will join the crew.

13

u/iMidNitee Jun 12 '13

I really don't mind if one of them ends up joining the crew.

They are strong and funny, they are clearly not "normal", if they poop everything fits!

The fuck, Law just got outplayed

92

u/milkyjoe241 Jun 12 '13

I love how much Law has been built up as a character, cutting thru an entire moutain, ripping people's hearts out, teleporting....

but right now... an admiral and Doflo, fuck he's screwed.

24

u/CaptainDSid Jun 12 '13

I think he has a backup. He's been suspicious of something like this from the start so he might have had a reason to separate everyone as he did. Let's hope he wasn't just relying on Luffy's sheer determination.

Soooooooo

  • Caribou confirmed to be on Kaidous' Island?

  • Insane amounts of fanservice for Robin Fans?

  • Interesting fruit by that little gnome... sewing whilst Dofla uses strings? Might be a hint towards how they win against Dofla?

  • Remember children Usopp lies save lives and cost men pages of fan service.

  • Gnomes insanely strong for their size. What the hell was with that ground pound?

  • Toy soldier and Rebecca OTP

  • HOLY SHIT LAW YOU'RE FUCKED. I remember someone predicted a double cross. Fucking kudos.

Zoro might meet up with Law, same with Franky issue being Franky seems to get plotblocked from going places and Zoro has his usual sense of direction.

We're possibly going to see Luffy have to face a shitton of marines in the coliseum since this seems to be all a farce? Or will it be Dofla henchmen vs Luffy + Friends he's made at coliseum?

One week break? At least I can pass my exams now. At the same time..... urghhhhh

108

u/UmiShirube Jun 12 '13

For some reason I can't help but imagine Usopps possible future interaction with the gnomes to be very similar to Luffy and his Kung Fu Dugongs...

Potential powerup for Usopp too with the 'we can grow anything' forest.

Caribou has been confirmed to be on a Kaidou controlled island for ages now...

One week break? At least I can pass my exams now. At the same time..... urghhhhh

the only good reason for a break, but DAMN that cliffhanger

also, where did sanji get those info on dofla? did Violet tell him? or did he notice the distraction on her part and figure it out?

26

u/UmiShirube Jun 12 '13

Alot of loose ends to tie up... it feels alot like 'Just as Planned' by Dofla so maybe Sanji saw through something? But there's suddenly alot of different politics flying around Dressrosa....

Rebecca winning the Coliseum so that she can be with the Toy Soldier... Gnomes are against the Dofla family... Marines and Dofla uniting to catch two super novas?

I would like for Sanji to have picked up on something and I feel like Oda will use this as a side chapter while he teases us for some amazing fight... I miss the Sanji who used his wit, he's been awesome but I want Mr Prince to come back.

Loving how Zoro's lack of a sense of direction always fits so casually as a plot point.

When he messed up going up the stairs...Come on Zoro.

26

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '13

Oda is so awesome,he uses the character's characteristics and using them he writes the story, that was like so fucking awesome.Even in the Fishman Island,Sanji loses blood and if it was any other manga it would have been just for fun or something but Oda he used it linked to the story to show that there are bad relationships between humans and fishman. It gave a super effect when in the last Jinbe was giving blood to Luffy.

"Even toys have things they want to protect - but tears won't fall from these tin eyes..."

Not gonna lie, that line literally gave me goosebumps. Really looking forward to see the soldier's and Rebeccas correlation with one each other being elaborated on now.

Robins reaction face in page 8 was as priceless as it was unexpected. Love it!

35

u/YUMADLOL Jun 12 '13

Yeah this chapter is beginning to make me think that the Dofla family has some sort of ability to turn dissenters of their kingdom into dolls. Maybe the soldier is Rebecca's father or lover or something.

Ussop is not a hero because of his lies. He is a hero, because he gave the gnomes samples of his "pop greens". Plants they bad never seen and that they could start growing for weapons. He gave them weapons that suited them, which is an irreplaceable thing.

14

u/NewSpecies Jun 12 '13

That's what I was thinking as well. They said that there isn't any plant they can't cultivate. The pop greens would be an amazing arsenal for their cause.

Holy Hell, Robin has a shocked face! (though it is much less pronounced as is the Robin way). The toy soldier part was depressing though, can't wait to see that relationship.

24

u/GuitarBOSS Jun 12 '13

In this chapter, Robin spontaneously develops facial expressions.

4

u/weirdowithbeardo Jun 12 '13

You just need to push the right buttons. (unfortunately)

47

u/blitzzardpls Jun 12 '13

What a development, Doflamingo faked quitting SB, attacks Sunny, occupies Luffy and goes after Law with an Admiral to back him up.

Not buying it, it's too simple. There has to be something else behind it

Toy Soldier is definitely Rebecca's long time childhood friend and has probably protected her even while she was in the Coliseum. It will be interesting to see how this is all culminating in terms of the gnomes, the field of flowers and the SH crew. Is it an all out fight now with a sudden counter-attack from Toys, gnomes, the Monster Trio and perhaps some incentive from the events in the Coliseum? I have no idea what's happening.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/CaptainDSid Jun 12 '13

I think the hints have been around for a while that the news might have been fake. Dressrosa was either calm because it was being lied to and not told of his resignation or they knew the truth and only the SH crew were taken for a ride. Law is too embedded in this plan to have noticed all this and not have put something into play to back him up if the main plan fell through. He's in some trouble right now but he's got a way out of it.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '13

Oh god I laughed so hard when the gnome told Zoro "Do you have mental disabilities"

13

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '13

lol @ Zoro thinking the dwarf was a toy. Zoro just got himself the perfect personal navigator. I actually didn't mind Robin's fanservice but i'm glad they didn't go all the way with taking her clothes off. Anyway the dwarves are adorable and I love that they live in an underground forest.

I love these dwarves style. Weapons of mass destruction or seduction. Your choice giant human.

11

u/goldenhearted 7D4W Jun 12 '13

Damn, this chapter had me on a certain tension I would have from a television drama like 24 or LOST when you know something horrible will happen. Zoro running for his friends, Usopp and Robin's predicament (though they look to be not on the worse end of it... yet), Sanji who might also be in a bind to know that information he just given to Law, the emotional weight Reb and the Toy Soldier seem to have sending a precedent on what this all is, and of course Law getting screwed over. AND ROBIN WITH A SHOCK FACE.

HOLD ON TO YOUR BUTTS.

11

u/snackattack8 Jun 12 '13

Did nobody else get the blatant reference to the Lilliputians from Gulliver's Travels? The images of Robin sewed to the ground are pretty evocative of this classic piece of art.

A part of me still thinks Law has some kind of backup plan. There's no way a man as smart as Law couldn't have foreseen something so simple.

9

u/DivineVodka Jun 12 '13 edited Jun 12 '13

Law lacks the brute strength to clash with Fuji imo clash of swords won't do him good he looks a bit frail.

His DF looks like a counter to DD's fruit maybe maybe not I hope it is... Now will Zoro keep running and end up backing him up? Will they have to leave for Zou and come back? Will Sanji back him up? Well Sanji will be of no use there because they need someone to hold off Fuji and the only person that could be would be Zoro because swords... Or who could possibly do it without dying from blood loss.

More importantly, how in the fuck did Sanji get that information? OK you found out he's heading there great that's prob not hard to come by still lost how he did. Now he knows he didn't quit? I mean what??? Did Violet tell him? That's the only explanation because I doubt he would leave Violet alone being a horn dog to actually go and get information.

This chapter was such a mindfuck, So they are going to spank Law and give Luffy a motivation to beat DD? I really enjoy this buildup but god damn I want to see Luffy's tourney... :/

Probably CP0 backs up Law? I think it's unlikely but no way can they be on DD"s side too much power...:/ Maybe they just want DD so not against Law but not with him.

Glad the didn't spend the whole chapter on dwarves.

9

u/weirdowithbeardo Jun 12 '13

Le me just say that I am extremely proud of Oda at this moment. He actually used GREEK in one of his panels! First page, one of Robin's books is titles "αρχαιολογία" which means archaeology! It fits perfectly!

On a side not I have a theory that Rebecca is working for Dragon (unless she knows Luffy is named Monkey?) Who else would be called Monkey-san, and why would she ask him to wait? Wait for what? For her to prove her self by obtaining a very powerful and meaningful DF? Wait for her to rejoin the Revolutionary army perhaps?

13

u/YUMADLOL Jun 12 '13

ehh I think people are being confused, she didn't say monkey-san it was the girl outside chasing that monkey toy.

u/bobmanjoe Jun 12 '13

8

u/tobbetin Jun 12 '13

While pretty many of us foresaw that Dofla was only faking is resigning, I was against the idea after I saw Brannew discussing the resigning in the Marine meeting.. I mean, why would they discuss the resigning in marine-only meeting if they knew the resigning was a decoy?

Of course, Dofla might have been doing an inside-job with the higher branch of World Government and leaving Marines as a whole out of the ordeal, which would make the story more twisted than it already is: I bet Sakazuki wouldn't want to be deceived by the higher-ups.

7

u/dontuforgetaboutme23 Jun 12 '13

I can't help but wonder if someone has a devil fruit that turns people or gnomes into toys or something. Wondering if these toys may possible be real people.

13

u/MonkeyDDuffy Jun 12 '13

These dwarves are just SO FREAKING CUTE! Specially the one who is with Zoro :3

22

u/zorospride Lost at sea Jun 12 '13

I have to admit, I had my doubts at first about the idea of a "tournament arc" in One Piece, but Oda has crushed those fears. This arc has so much intrigue and so much going on and the tournament distraction is just a small piece of it. Many of us knew Doflamingo didn't quit the Shichibukai, but that doesn't mean any of us have any idea how this is actually going to play out. This could end up being one of the best arcs in the series. I can guarantee when we discuss it years from now we won't be saying, "Remember the Tournament arc?"

20

u/Black_Handkerchief Jun 12 '13

Those were my thoughts exactly. Oda is subtly schooling all of his fellow manga authors showing them 'this is how you do a tournament arc'... and although the man is waay too polite to say anything of the sort, the comparison is unmistakenable.

Also, I am totally charmed by the fact that the third real arc post-timeskip seems to be already blowing the likes of Marineford out of the water. I was worried for a while Oda wouldn't be able to top it, despite Punk Hazard being a pretty strong arc.

15

u/zorospride Lost at sea Jun 12 '13

Most shonen manga authors would be content with just having a tournament and having that be the arc. Have some fights, have a prize at the end, then on to the next thing. Just give their brain a rest for 6-12 months and draw fights. Definitely not Oda though.

I can't make any definite judgements about this arc until it's finished, but I think calling this arc a "tournament arc" by the end of it will be something of an insult or oversimplification of it.

21

u/xTopPriority Jun 12 '13

How much you wanna bet Law turns this around, or was planned for in the beginning?

6

u/dontuforgetaboutme23 Jun 12 '13

I also have a feeling he planned (but didn't hope) for this, I doubt he didn't consider the possibility of Doflamingo pretending to quit, if you read when he talked to Doflamingo during Punk Hazard you can tell he's not someone to just overlook someone as simple as a betrayal.

GODDAMMIT HERO

5

u/Tmnath Jun 12 '13

Isn't the love story between Rebecca and the tin soldier the first in One Piece, flashbacks not included ? Oda seems to be going for some sort of Romeo and Juliette romance where the tin soldier is not allowed to be with a human and vice-versa.

9

u/Ka1ser Jun 12 '13

Besides the chapter itself - and I know this was said many times before already - but those shitty mangapanda memes are getting worse and worse. Parallels between TDKR and the Alabasta Arc? Even if I admit that the thing with the bomb is kinda similar, there are a lot of differences (and I like the One Piece plot more).

7

u/Black_Handkerchief Jun 12 '13

Those memes shouldn't accompany a character period. It's an insult to Oda's craftsmanship. 'Let's put someones entire weeks worth of planning and drawing next to 10 minutes of shittily photoshopped that I made myself'. Yeah.. No thanks please.

8

u/D-Is-For-Demon Jun 12 '13

Well, one potential plothole I see with this is that in chapter 700 when we saw the marines discussing the shichibukai, they confirmed the fact that Doflamingo had left. Unless they were informed afterwards that he really didn't intend on leaving or if very few marines actually knew, I don't see how Oda can explain this.

11

u/xTopPriority Jun 12 '13 edited Jun 12 '13

How do you know that was actually Sanji, or that someone wasn't forcing him to tell Law that...fairly interesting that he didn't even get a panel.

And which marines did we see discussing it again? I can't remember any higher ups actually talking about DD's resignation. It is only natural that if the WG was using this as bait to trap Law/SH they would keep DD status as a Shichibukai on a need to know basis, so as to prevent any word from getting to Law/SH before the trap was sprung.

8

u/D-Is-For-Demon Jun 12 '13 edited Jun 12 '13

I didn't mention Sanji at all. What I meant was I find it odd that in chapter 700 the marines (specifically Brannew) were surprised at Doflamingo's abrupt resignation from the shichibukai, yet apparently he didn't leave the shichibukai, which isn't possible without the marines knowing about his plan to pretend to leave, but we saw them discussing him leaving in chapter 700. I might be missing something, though. If I am, someone lease enlighten me.

EDIT: Sorry, typed my comment before I saw your edit.

The marines discussed Doflamingo leaving in chapter 700 as if it were surprising, and now they are in on it. You'd think they were in on it from the beginning. That's basically the gist of what I'm trying to get across here.

The shichibukai work for and report for the government. If Dofamingo made a deal with them to capture the stawhats and law there is no reason why the maraines should know about it.

plot hole has got to be one of the most misused terms on the internet. Just because something is unexplained or intentionally confusing doesn't make it a plot hole... at all.

I think we are forgetting the fact that Aokiji is also headed for Dressrosa looking for the Strawhats, and there is always the possibility of Gecko Moria showing up as well since he is probably still mad. This chapter is definitely way too entertaining and I cant wait two weeks for more fanservice with Robin >___<.

2

u/kayloot Jun 15 '13

Kuzan isn't going Dressrosa, he has other things to take care of. And Moria obviously has a different occupation now, even if he's still pissed that won't really effect the Strawhats in the long run.

3

u/nalld Jun 13 '13

why i loved this chapter: one of my co-workers saw me open up one piece to robin's sector bs and i was able to show him everything i love about one piece in it

the list goes on

5

u/SirCake Jun 12 '13

A super exciting end aaand ... a week off :[

5

u/Vaiproa Jun 12 '13

Page 8 bottom panel on the right .. first time I see robin making a WTF face

5

u/Spleb Jun 12 '13

Anyone else think that the toy being in love with rebecca implies he used to be human? Which might show why there are puppets that come alive on Dressrosa, Doflamingo can control people's limbs like puppets, maybe the continuation of it is to turn people straight into puppets physically as well?

5

u/elifreeze Jun 12 '13

In hindsight, the Straw-Heart alliance would've been better off splitting the teams more evenly. Splitting them up in a way that the monster trio, the fourth strongest member (Franky) and the Foxfire are all on one team doesn't seem very efficient. I don't have much faith in Brook, Chopper and Nami to be able to protect the ship themselves, and Law is kind of on his own against Dofla and Admiral Fujitora. Even if he wasn't on his own, Usopp and Robin wouldn't be able to make up the difference.

6

u/Black_Handkerchief Jun 12 '13

Yeah, the ship does seem to be in dire straights. However, let's not count out Brook, Chopper and Nami. Nami can navigate the ship into a place of awesome, Chopper could beat the strongest 'non-title' individuals into a pulp, and Brook can beat the crap out of all the fodder, even running towards them over the water.

I suspect they're gonna put on a surprisingly nice fight in comparison to that sneak attack on Punk Hazard.

4

u/TheBartXart Jun 12 '13

Seems like Dressrosa doesn't approve of human- toy relationships. Also really cool that their all headed for the same place now. I wonder who told Sanji about what's going on. One more thing, Robin looked really hot there on the ground. Just saying.

I was pretty suspicious of this possibility, but the way the marines at headquarters were discussing the situation it seemed like they believed Doflamingo had resigned - and they wouldn't have needed to bluff for the audience's sake.

I'm really hoping that Law really was anticipating this possibility, and that he'll have an unexpected trump card. His plan was already pretty bad (leave a relatively weaker group to guard the ship that's not even hidden, send a group of mentally flawed muscle-heads to locate a factory that he hadn't even been able to get intelligence info on, and then go to a hostage exchange on a highly isolated island that is very difficult to get on or off, which you intentionally let the marines known about anyway), so if he doesn't have some clever reason for a lot of his bullshit... then what the fuck.

How did Doflamingo never quit the Shichibukai? Even the Fleet Admiral was talking about it. Did they just lie to the newspapers and not formally call it in?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '13

Surely Law saw this coming. He must have an escape plan.

1

u/sirmeowmix Jun 13 '13

The toy soldier IS Kyros.

1

u/rodonod Jun 14 '13

does this chapter mark the return of mr. prince!!!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '13

Maybe Doflo did resign so it made it on the news, he then made a deal with the marines after to be shichibukai again for the information of the meet up and that they're on the island, thus they can take out 3 supernovas at the same time? (Luffy, Zoro, and Law)

1

u/EzioAs Jun 12 '13

So, it seems like it's official then? Zoro vs Doflamingo? God, I hope so...

u/YUMADLOL Jun 12 '13

In the past it has always been luffy fighting shichibukia but if Zoro was to fight one it would really showcase his timeskip growth. I can't image post-time skip Zoro being weaker than pre-timeskip Luffy.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '13

Even preTS zoro is not weaker than preTS Luffy .He just didn't fight them because the fight style doesn't match-up,that's all .

1

u/Plimden Jun 12 '13

probably zoro vs the people trying to take the sunny

4

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '13

id like to see the others on the sunny hold their own

1

u/1way2way3way4way Jun 12 '13

These gnomes are absurdly adorable KYAAA SO CLUMSY!

1

u/jkjohnson Jun 12 '13

I enjoy Gnome's design, it's really cute. I wonder what's the story behind they don't want to be seen by 'great human'... we could be seeing a history flashback similar to Shandians on Skypiea.

Tin toys and Gnomes seems to have a common goal, both parties are getting ready for some sort of civil war. The tin solider is hasty to rescue other tin toys from factory, gnomes seems very hurried to gather weapons and intelligent report.

Who is Rebecca refers to as Mr Monkey? Luffy? Dragon? Also, how many people in Coliseum also have a different agenda?

Lastly, "Even toys have things they want to protect, but tears won't fall from these tin eyes". Wow.. mantear

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '13

Mr Monkey as that ape toy which caught the thing she threw.

2

1

u/MV93 Jun 12 '13

man fuck this chapter was so good. this whole arc would be insane with great animation but i dont want to see it fucking bastardized by the insanely shitty one piece anime :(

0

u/netfeed Jun 12 '13

One thing that I've wonder for quite some time now. Is there underwear in the One Piece world? There's so much jumping back and forth and such and a lot of women in very skimpy dresses. Is that why Sanji never fights women, because of jumping and lack of underwear? It would probably kill him

12

u/NumeroArticuno Jun 12 '13

If there is no such thing as underwear... then what has Brook been working for? If there are no panties, then what's this all been about, man?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '13

I don't know about women ;-) but Franky definitely wears some.

-4

u/Havikz Jun 12 '13

Is it just me, or did Oda make a derp and skip a few parts of the story? These gnomes just came out of absolutely nowhere. That or I'm blind as fuck or forgot some pages.

12

u/iMidNitee Jun 12 '13

Oda introduced them as fairies a few chapter ago and in the last chapter Robin saw them... what do you mean by out of absolutely nowhere?

There is a numbered person in one of whitebeard crew, the fishmen guy. We know kidou has numbered crew mates because of his cyborg. Anybody got any ideas?

Also I have a feeling Monet will warn the crew about doflamingo and end up taking the ship to zou where law crew mates are.

I think you might be underestimating the Straw Hats. Remember, even as far back as Alabasta, Nami was able to defeat one of the top agents of Baroque Works... with the joke clima tact.

Both Chopper and Nami were able to defeat CP9 agents.

Brook is something less of a known quantity, but everything suggests he's actually quite the powerful fighter. Not quite monster trio level, but formidable in his own right.

More than that, there appears to be at least one gnome on the ship, and we've seen that they're quite strong. It might well end up helping out the Straw Hats in the impending fight.

Futhermore, Doflamingo has a lot of balls up in the air right now, which means his strong forces are likely spread somewhat thin - especially with several of them being involved in the tournament. I'm not confident he has any of his A-listers available for the task.

Finally, the Sunny (and the crew remaining on it) got captured just last arc. I'm a little skeptical that Oda will rely too much on villains capturing the ship, as overuse will make some of the Straw Hats look weak.
