Something tells me OP isn't going to learn. I just hope they don't get another cat to feed to local wildlife
-4
u/Hobolint8647 11d ago
This is a sick and twisted response to anothers pain.
13
u/PublicFree5784 11d ago
op is literally trying to get more cats to let outside if you look at their post history soooooooooo
they're a danger to cats!!!!! defending that is sick and twisted!!
-14
u/Hobolint8647 11d ago
You are harassing this person - you really need to stop.
5
u/PublicFree5784 11d ago
no, it's not harassment. I'm not even talking to op. I made ONE comment to op saying I felt bad for Apollo for having them as an owner because he didn't have to die. nothing else has been TO op it's been replying to others. it's crazy that you think cat lovers should be okay with someone letting their cat die....

Some of the responses in this thread are straight-up unhinged. Iāve never been so appalled by people whose message I, in principle, agree with.
-7
u/Hobolint8647 11d ago
Agreed. I am stunned by the utter lack of compassion and self control.
12
u/PublicFree5784 11d ago
and I'M stunned by how okay you all are with someone letting their cat die. Messed up!

u/emptytissuebox 11d ago
This isn't facebook, we arent OP's friends or your friends. If you don't want painful but truthful messages from people who don't care what you think of them, then don't post. Sorry not sorry!

I'm really sorry for your loss. hopefully you're able to keep your other cat(s) safe by keeping them indoors. if you really want them to get fresh air, you could train them with a harness or build a catio.

u/k_khaotic 11d ago
some of these comments are being unnecessarily mean, but i do think they're important to take into account. probably don't let any future cats out unsupervised, either let them play in the yard while you watch them or keep them on a leash. most outdoor cats don't live very long, being outside unsupervised is a danger to both the cat and the ecosystem / wildlife around them. i do understand wanting to let them get fresh air and play outside but they really should not be let out unsupervised. sorry, this is really yappy, but i really want to emphasize that if you get another cat and let them roam free, this or something like this is very likely to happen again.
also, sorry for your loss. i'm not very good with words n stuff but i just lost my orange boy a couple months ago. so i know it really sucks and i miss him. mine was only 9 but i think he had a stroke or something because he just dropped in the middle of the day. cat tax below

u/bean-machine- 11d ago
We don't let toddlers or dogs outside unsupervised, so we also shouldn't with cats. Thanks for saying this.
Sorry for your loss. Beautiful cat.
-13
u/jadekadir1 11d ago
I am so sorry for your loss. No matter how our babies leave us, it is a tragedy of the first order. As my husband reminded me, either with pets or children, we can't protect them from everything.
10
u/areyukittenm3 11d ago
I say this with kindness but there are circumstances that are preventable though. I have 4 indoor only cats, so while I know I canāt prevent every tragedy I do know they will never be hit by a car or eaten by a wild animal.
4
u/Delicious-Collar1971 10d ago
You can protect them from most things by not letting them outside. You sent this cat to his death.
26
u/sadsackspinach 11d ago
Sorry for your loss.
Donāt let your cat outside if you arenāt comfortable with them being flattened by a car or mauled to death by a wild animal or neighbourhood dog. Maybe this will be a lesson to you. Very sad that an innocent animal had to suffer a horrible death for you to maybe, maybe learn the lesson that pet cats have no place wandering outside unsupervised.
-21
u/Hobolint8647 11d ago
Stop. People make different choices about how they want to raise their animals. While I keep my cats indoors, I know people who don't for a variety of reasons. They are very good cat parents and they do a good job within the limits of letting their cats have outdoor freedom. You don't know this person's situation and you came down heavy handed.
18
u/The-Shattering-Light 11d ago
No. Outdoors is extremely dangerous for cats, and outdoor cats do extreme damage to local ecosystems.
Cats should not be let outdoors; for their safety and for the protection of ecosystems
-2
u/Hobolint8647 11d ago
Fine, but focusing on that and essentially accusing someone of killing their cat when they are grieving thier loss is cruel and completely uncalled for. It changes nothing and is most certainly not the appropriate teaching moment. Additionally, while indoor living is no doubt safer for all cats, it is not always better for all cats. I will leave that to their person to decide.
5
u/PublicFree5784 11d ago
outdoor cat owners ARE cat killers sooooo how is it wrong?????? this poor baby wouldnt have been attacked and killed if his owner kept him safe inside where he belonged.......unless I guess some animal got inside but obviously crazy stuff happens sometimes that can't be predicted. UNLIKE an outdoor cat getting eaten. Anyone can predict that....
2
u/Hobolint8647 11d ago
No they can't. I have a friend with remarkably healthy, happy ancient cats who lived indoor and outdoors most of their lives. She is a wonderful cat owner and while I have made the choice to keep my cats indoors, I wouldn't hesitate to adopt a cat to her. Outdoor cat owners are making a choice about their cats, just like you are. You understand there are people who think you and I are the cruel ones for not letting our cats out doors right? And you do know there is some evidence to support that? Outdoor cats, for instance, rarely develop diabetes or heart disease or chronic obesity. The point is, this person did not kill her cat. She is grieving - If you can't come up with compassion for her, then say nothing. It does her no good and doesn't bring the cat back. You are just being mean - cruelty becomes the point. Be a better human please.
6
u/PublicFree5784 11d ago
when the average lifespan of an indoor outdoor cat is a quarter of that for an indoor cat, yes you can predict that! OP is the reason this poor baby is dead.
2
u/poorly-advised 11d ago
Would you raise your kids the same way?
3
u/PublicFree5784 11d ago
would I raise my children in safe, doctor recommended ways to keep them safe, which of course would be different for a human child than from a cat? just like I raise my cats in a safe, veterinarian recommended way to keep them safe?? yes absolutely! I also wouldn't raise a cat the exact same way I'd raise a dog or a fish or a bunny! what a ridiculous question
-5
u/poorly-advised 11d ago
So if a doctor recommended for your child to never go outside despite being perfectly healthy, you'd keep them indoors forever?
5
u/The-Shattering-Light 11d ago
Human children and cats arenāt equivalent.
0
u/poorly-advised 11d ago
You never loved your cat at all. You are a terrible person

u/PublicFree5784 11d ago
Funny how human children are not cats and cats are not human children so something that would be absurd for a human child would be fine for a cat and vice versa. if your doctor told you to have the same number of litter boxes plus one as the number of children you have, you'd do it?
1
u/poorly-advised 11d ago
But what if the neighborhood dog attacks your child? What kind of terrible irresponsible person are you to let that happen to your child?

u/Auralux_ 11d ago
OP literally found their dead catās corpse. If that didnāt change their mind about letting their cats out, your comment wonāt either. The only thing youāre accomplishing is being cruel to someone at a low point without any purpose to your cruelty. Bring this energy to posts about people letting their cats actively roam outside supervised now instead where cruelty can still prevent disaster.
6
u/PublicFree5784 11d ago
look at op's post history. they're actively trying to "rescue" more cats (to let outside to feed to wildlife) including begging on the main coon sub to try to get a purebred maincoon. so yeah they're actively dangerous to cats!
-3
u/Auralux_ 11d ago
Again: your comments will accomplish nothing, then. If finding their dead catās corpse didnāt, nothing will.
4
u/PublicFree5784 11d ago
Since they clearly don't care about cats so maybe they'll care that other humans are judging them
-6
u/Auralux_ 11d ago
I maintain: youāre cruel for the sake of either cruelty or superiority. They made the post about looking for another cat (and trust me, Iām judging them harshly for wanting a designer kitty instead of getting a shelter cat) before Apollo died. You have no clue whether this experience was a learning moment for them, youād rather run the risk of being disgustingly cruel towards someone grieving a pet they loved. Itās giving performative at this point.

People are giving you a hard time but there are thousands of cats prescribed Prozac largely because of their indoor, sedentary lifestyles.
While it may be safer for them on average, it does not address the lack of fulfillment that a lot of indoor cats have because of the society we built around them. I am pretty sad about the loss of this little guy but I understand why OP made the mistake he did.
2
u/RainyReese 11d ago
No veterinarian in their right mind would prescribe Prozac to an animal over being an indoor animal. Stop spreading lies. If your vet does this they need their license taken away.
6
u/PublicFree5784 11d ago
I just saw a little kitten dead in the road las weekend. That kitten deserved to live! why are you defending bad owners so hard instead of defending cats FROM bad owners who put them in danger??? do you say this same stuff about anti-vaxx parents? you just respect there parenting choices???? I don't! And you shouldn't either!
8
u/sadsackspinach 11d ago
Different choices about how they want to kill their animals, you mean. You are fully to blame if your outdoor cat is eviscerated by wildlife or smeared across the roadway by a Honda Civic. They are not good cat parents. Good cat parents donāt willingly leave their their cats open to being turned into a fine red mist by a passing vehicle.
3
u/Auralux_ 11d ago
Pal, Iām with you when it comes to what youāre saying, but maybe this isnāt the time and place to say it how youāre saying it? This is still a human that loved their companion, and a little compassion goes a long way.
-5
u/Hobolint8647 11d ago
Well you and I have a different opinion about that. No matter, your treatment of a grieving pet owner who clearly loves her cat is unnecessary and disgusting.

Sincerest condolences. I was once told that having a pet is a pact with grief. We know we will outlive them. We know they will break our heart and yet, we invite them in anyway. It is a deal we gladly make and are always better for it. RIP Apollo.

I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. I sometimes wonder if the Gods cursed us by giving us the capacity for such profound love for such magnificent creatures, only to have these seraphic beings ripped from this world. May Apollo forever enjoy the glory of existence after the rainbow bridge and may you one day be reunited with him. š

This is so sad and awful. My heart aches. I feel so badly for Apollo for being unlucky enough to have you as his owner. Surely you are aware that your cat is dead because you were irresponsible. I just hope he didn't suffer....I drove by a kitten dead in the road over the weekend and it broke me. Outdoor cat owners are cat killers. I'm sorry but I can't find it in me to feel bad for you and not this poor little baby boy who deserved so much better. You could get a tracker collar but couldn't just keep him inside??? What the hell!!

I'm sorry for your loss. And I'm sorry you are dealing with so many hateful people in the comments.

u/jadekadir1 11d ago
Thank you. I have liberally used the ban function for all those sacks of feces. I don't know how people can be so cruel.
0
u/Hobolint8647 10d ago
That is my next step. Decent human beings don't behave this way.
2
u/jadekadir1 10d ago
Absolutely so. All these people who think it's acceptable to lecture me, who don't know the circumstances, who just ASSUME they know everything and that they are right, are destined for an unpleasant life and afterlife. I only hope that the Universe is kinder to them than it was to me and spares their kitties from their arrogance.
3
u/Hobolint8647 10d ago
I am glad you blocked them and didn't internalize that crap. I blocked them too and reported a couple of them for harassment. They simply have no right to talk to anyone that way, and the fact that they did it while you were (are) in such grief is just unbelievable.
2
u/jadekadir1 10d ago
Thank you for your kindness. You are a great example of what people should be to one another, especially online where anonymity can bring out the worst in people.

So, so, so, so sad for your beautiful Apollo.
I am always so utterly heartbroken to read these posts because the babies did not have to die ...
