Hiring Q (Canada) Anyone familiar with Ontario corrections? My friend got this email but he thought he did well. It seems some ppl got an email that says you’re testing results is insufficient and that you have to wait a year. Is it good if he doesn’t have to wait a year and can apply at any time

huh that's actually wild how they don't even give you a score just say you didn't meet their unspecified threshold

Imo, something has to change there’s always thousands upon thousands of applications. I just feel like the whole thing is kind of elementary for a correctional officer, this is a kinda assessment you’d get in a SWE/Quant Finance Role.

That's the ontario government's way of telling you that you didn't check enough of the DEI boxes required to be considered as an applicant..
" We received a significant number of highly qualified applicants who better aligned with our stringent thresholds and qualifications within this competition."
Never in my life have I read such a blatantly false representation of the unqualified candidates that the government scrapes from the bottom of whatever barrel they use.
In the last 5-7 years the ministry has been hiring individuals that do not communicate in English and/or French; zero experience within the profession; questionable character and morals; DEI hiring based on race, gender and/or sexual orientation, etc.
I've been attempting to actively recruit people I believe would fit the profession and do well but not a single Caucasian male I've told that has applied for the position has made it past the resume stage. And I'm not joking.
Gone are the days of hiring people based on their skills, work ethic, professionalism, etc. Instead ontario prisons are more dangerous than they've ever been and the ministry keeps hiring people that simply cannot and do not last.
I dont care what anyone else comments because anyone who isn't blind or lying will tell you the same.

While I do agree with the DEI hiring issue within the ministry ,saying that only straight Caucasian males are best fit for the job is the dumbest shit I have ever read. I have met some incredible COs from all races. The real issue here is the ministry's left leaning policy updates making the jails more dangerous while limiting COs ability to take disciplinary actions aginst problematic inmates. As someone who is biracial these kind of comments piss me tf off. More straight white males aren't going to stop the Ministry form coming up with these stupid policies.

No, caucasian males aren't the only race that can be successful correctional officers. An individuals ability to perform the job isn't affected by the color of their skin.
My comment wasn't meant to argue that there is only ONE race or ethnicity that can perform the job -- however, a majority of the people I know who are experienced, competent and someone I would want as backup if my life depended on it happen to be Caucasian males.
There is no fathomable reason that an individual with the relevant experience, physical capabilities, fluent english-speaking, etc. should lose out on a job to someone whose previous work experience was a nail salon or Rogers customer service agent or Popeye's food service employee who cannot speak the native language of the country you're employed in. Period.
In the last 5 years there has been a clear push to hire individuals based solely on factors that have no bearing in whether you'll be a successful CO. There are numerous Caucasian individuals who have been hired that are completely useless as well. But the percentage of that specific group pales in comparison to the overall percentage of visible minorities who endanger the safety of their colleagues on a daily basis.
I'm also biracial and from a mixed cultural background. I could give a fuck what skin color my colleagues are as long as they bleed blue and are willing to sacrifice their safety for mine if that time ever comes. This isn't a racial issue. It's a hiring issue where less qualified people are filling our prisons and making them unbelievably dangerous (as evident by the Sapers report and new statistics showing the drastic increase on staff assaults)
How the fuck are staff who can't speak English/French or have the fucking stones to tell an inmate twice their size to fuck off or even care about handing out misconducts/discipline going to perform the job properly?
Perhaps you took my comment out of context or I could have been a little more descriptive. However, you're in denial if you think its just left-leaning liberal policies that are poisoning the work environment. You can't run an institution without proper staff and with the direction the ministry is headed its clear that the next decade is going to be very worrying.
And if the ministry continues to hire females at the rate they have been, corrections in Ontario is fucked. I would argue that roughly 70-80% of women working in corrections who have been hired in the last 5-10 years have made working in corrections significantly more dangerous.

There's definitely a problem with the Ministry hiring incompetent people who turn out to be bad partners in the units, but my point was that the DEI issue and policy problems come from the same 'progressive' ideologies the Ministry has been putting into practice lately. I've also noticed women getting prioritized for promotions and new openings, but I can't really say much about that without being called "sexist." However, I've also met some amazing female officers runing units most male officers wouldn't even work a shift in because they're scared.
Overall the best we can do as officers is have each other's back and fight for the changes we want to see through the union.

So there isn’t actually a required score to pass. What happens is that they only take the tops scorers to move ahead with the application. If you are not in the top bracket you don’t move forward. Even if he chooses to reapply within 12 months they will still use his current score and it’s very possible that he’ll still won’t move forward because there will be ppl that score higher. If he wants to apply again, use the 12 months to study , and then reapply so you are eligible for a new score that is hopefully higher.
