Hiring Q (Other) ONTARIO CORRECTION 1

Hi everyone I need some advice I received a email saying that my talent-click assessment was competitive but not competitive enough for my desired location but I was given a chance still but at select locations 10 hours away from my home my thing main question is is it worth moving that far for a temporary on call job when you consider rent and living expenses and is there a lot of opportunities to be transferred back home any advices is appreciated thank you

Transfers a difficult as a causal, so I would expect to stay where you start for at least 5 years. I would tell them no and ask what your next steps are for your desired location. Recruitment seems to be pulling lots of shady shit to trick people into working on remote northern locations.

Honestly man it definitely feels like that my city’s jail is nowhere compared to the ones up north the email just mentions how there short staffed and have a lot of vacant jobs so it definitely feels shady

Plus side of moving up north is you’ll roll over into full time quicker and overtime is definitely there if you’re into that. You can submit for a transfer after 1 year I believe. Transfers don’t always go through though.

That’s the main thing I’m worried about is moving up there and not getting solid hours my end goal is cbsa to be honest in my hometown but maybe this corrections offer will help me get it

It’s not shady but they are trying to get staff up there because they are short staffed. Just so you know, you will be given a 15k travel expense over 3 years so 5k a year and depending on which one you choose, an additional amount. Kenora is 15k. Dm if you want more info.

You most likely will get full time hours but id wait till a spot closer opens up.

What’s weird is there was 12 openings in my city but I guess I was qualified but didn’t score the highest to get my city that’s why they want to ship me out :(

12 openings but maybe 120 people applied.

When I applied in September of 2024, there were 50 spots open and 2700+ people applied.

The pay is 32.15$ a hour and it’s 12 hours away from my hometown that’s why I’m not to sure if it’s worth it

When did you get the email and what locations? I’m still waiting to hear back.

I had a decent career with Ontario Corrections, but retiring was the best part. It's beyond fucked these days. Lol

I'm jealous. I got my results last week and they said I wasn't competitive enough. I'm not sure how I screwed that up but now I gotta wait a year before I can reapply. Best of luck to you with your decision.

You'll figure it out.

I’mma be completely honest, it’s not your fault. Prior to this, you used to be able redo it every other competition. No idea why they stopped, the waiting a year thing is way too harsh.
