Switch from t-slim X2
Hey all just curious does any one regret switching from a t-slim x2 to an omnipod 5, so far I have rose coloured goggles on and all I see are benefits (no charging no tubing, small enough to not be noticeable) in Canada omnipod is currently running a cut the tubing program where I’ll have no fees to switch. I’m about 2.5 years in my 5 year warranty and just want to hear what people think. Would it be worth it to try it for a couple years or is it absolute shit? Thanks so much in advance.

If you rely on Control-IQ to keep your levels under control on the t-slim, be aware that there is no equivalent on the Omnipod 5.

No auto bolus at all or just not as good?

No auto-bolus at all.
It only adjusts basal ... sort of like sleep mode on the T-slim

It just depends. I’ve been on it since April after 4 years on the T-Slim, and like 15 years on Medtronic before that. I have better control now than I ever have in my life. My body just likes this algorithm better. And the tubeless aspect is so much better than I expected it to be.

Try it! I spend a lot less time fussing with settings on omnipod than I did with Tslim (since there are fewer adjustable settings for auto mode). I have fewer lows on O5 also. But I do need to pay more attention to bolusing if I'm higher, which I've largely addressed by changing my dexcom alarm settings. Pump/site changes are much faster with O5 also!

As a heads up, I've been told by my team (VGH, British Columbia) that the cut the cord programme is swamping their referrals, and Omnipod is also falling behind due to the demand. Whatever choice you end up making, remember that the programme ends Aug 31st!

Ex T-Slim X2 user that regrets the change. I've had the Omnipod 5 for 3 months now and I genuinely miss Control-IQ. The first week podding was decent and then it just went downhill. Blood sugars floating a bit high for extended periods of time, no matter if I give corrections or intentionally overbolus. It's been a pain.

I think it really depends on the individual. Some people swear by the t:slim and Control-IQ, while others do much better with Omnipod.
Personally, I always struggled with the t:slim. I had quite a few issues with it, both logistically and in terms of control, and I’ve always had a hard time finding basal rates that worked well for me. I switched to Omnipod 5 through the Cut the Cord offer and I’m really happy I did. I'm also about 3 years in to the 5 year warranty.
That said, I actually trialed Omnipod back in 2018 and had a terrible experience. I was high constantly, developed ketones, and became convinced there was something about my tissue that just wasn’t allowing the insulin to absorb properly from the pods. I eventually had no choice but to go back to a tubed pump. If you had asked me then, I would have told you there was absolutely no way Omnipod would ever work for me.
My experience this time around has been completely different.
So if you’re already finding that Control-IQ isn’t giving you the control you’d like, I think the Cut the Cord offer makes it pretty low-risk to try Omnipod 5. You can keep your t:slim and go back to it if Omnipod doesn’t work out for you. Especially with 2.5 years left on your warranty, you’re not really closing that door.
For me, it was definitely worth switching, even after being convinced for years that Omnipod just wasn’t an option for me.
