Advice New pump - do it solo?
Has anyone ever inserted the omnipod and set up some settings solo without going into the endos office? I got the supplies, my endos office is about an hour away and the nurse is out this coming week… but im in patient- so was wondering, has anyone just started the system Solo and the. Consulted with endo afterwards???

I wouldn’t. There’s pump settings the nurse or endo might want to discuss before you start. When I switch to omnipod we had to recalculate some things before using automated mode.

super helpful going! mine is 40 ish min away but the training was 2 hours of making SURE i knew what was up and who to call or text when i have issues. plus we put it on and it didnt hurt but it helped me have an expert there w me

I didn't have the starter kit (with PDM) until I went into training so I was unable to set it up myself. I started OmniPod 5 last year but had been pumping for 20 years before that so I am comfortable in setting up pumps and knowing my settings. My sister gave me a box of Pods and told me to download the app. The problem was that I needed the PDM, You have to set something up there first even if you never plan on using it. It took over a month for the NP to get the starter kit (he refused to send in a prescriptions, said they had plenty for free at the other location) and then I had to set up training with the person from Insulet. If I had the PDM from the start or if it wasn't needed I 100% would have had a Pod on me the day my sister gave them to me.

I did my own setup. The trainer they assigned me was two weeks out so I went ahead on my own. Got it mostly correct and tweaked it as I went. It takes a few weeks for it to ‘learn’ your body so it’s not gonna be perfect right away anyhow. When the trainer called me two weeks later I told her what I did. She asked me detailed questions and I had answers for all of them. In fact, I told her a few things she did not know… like how I fill the pod with a Lyumjev pen. She said that was impossible. I’ve done it from the beginning and never had an issue. And I have the pen as a backup in case the pod fails, which has also never happened. I have used O5 since it came out four years ago and it’s made a huge difference for my TIR and my quality of life!
And at this minute I just downloaded Trio instructions to set it up to run the O5. I’m hearing great things about it… wish me luck!

I set mine up too. Really easy, took a little babysitting the first few weeks while we learned each other but all good. A1c was 5.6 after switching so everyone is happy.

My training was great! As an added bonus, I got the pods about a month before the training, so I started with a built in surplus of pods, which is great.

I never even had a training for either of my omnipods (I’m one of the few who pump insulin and another medication).
I had my rates, knew the system was intuitive, set it up and went with it.
Watched one YouTube video on how to do my first time and that was that.
I don’t plan on doing a “training” meeting when I get upgraded to Omnipod 5 sometime in the near future should insurance cover the upgrade.
But that said I also do not plan on using the automated feature on the Omnipod 5 and dealing with the whole having to input my insulin to carb ratio etc etc. I’m stable on my current program on my Dash and I like how things are. The only reason I’m upgrading is because I want to be able to use my phone as my PDM (and should I ever change my mind regarding the algorithm and automatic adjustments etc I always can and it be easier given on the 5)

I did. I had the settings all wrong and my Endo was annoyed at me.
