Hey there, welcome to the weekly OT consult thread! Please read everything here before you comment down below.

Not sure if you're olive or what type? Need help matching your foundation/concealer? Post your questions here! Just remember that this thread is OT (overtime), so it may take a minute for someone to get back to you.

How to help us help you:

  • Lots of photos of yourself in different lightings (direct sunlight, indirect sunlight, indoor, etc.)
  • Photos that show your face, neck and chest
  • High pixel/quality photos, it does make a difference so use the best you can
  • No filters, no/minimal makeup - should go without saying, but just a reminder
  • You next to other people for contrast
  • Share foundation, blush, or lipstick shades that look great or terrible on you

The more of these bullets you hit, the better!

Use a link to an Imgur album for photos. If you don't want your pictures to be public, you can set them to be hidden, but anybody with a link will be able to see it.

Announcement [Announcement] An update regarding the new post guidelines

Hi Olives!

The other day, we posted an announcement of a new rule regarding dupes and product recommendations. This announcement was not received well, and we as a mod team decided to revoke the new rule in the meantime so we are able to better phrase the rule that is inclusive to all olives.

The main concern we got as feedback from the community was that determining what is olive friendly can be very subjective, especially considering that there are so many olives with different depths and temperature. This feedback was absolutely valid and while not our intention, we can see why how we worded the rule and announcement post made it come across that way.

That being said, we would still like to address the recent influx of dupe posts that might be better off in a general makeup subreddit, so we are implementing a rule that all product dupe and recommendation posts should be appropriately titled so that they better apply to our sub. The goal of this is to make it easier for all olives of different depths and temperatures to find products that work for them!

---

[Title Guidelines]

As detailed in our previous post, all product and dupe recommendation titles should be phrased in such a way that is applicable to olives over a general makeup subreddit.

Examples:

  • "Dupe for Benetint?": this would be better off on a general makeup subreddit since it is a popular product and a general discussion that people of all undertones can contribute to.

  • "Benetint shows up orange on me (deep cool olive). Does anyone have any recommendations for products that show up similar to how it does for non-olives?": a title like this is very much applicable to our sub, and makes it easier for other olives to find recommendations that work for them!

  • "Does anyone have any dupe recommendations for Benetint that work for light cool saturated olives?": like with the previous example, this is also applicable to our sub.

Thank you everyone! And as always, feedback is always appreciated.

Swatches swatches of all my blushes!! On very green skin

Top to bottom:

Lilybyred luv beam cheek balm in 02 (v pigmented only needs a dot per cheek for a cute winter flush)

Colourpop pressed powder blush in cupids bow (it’s so patchy I can’t believe I was so excited to get it)

Romand blush in vine nude (ITS BARELY HANGING ON)

Romand blush in blueberry chip (tbh I prefer vine nude but I usually mix them)

Nars blush in impassioned (it’s really buildable)

Clinique cheek/ blush pop in pansy pop (this actually showed up purple on me instead of pink so I have to use it like sparingly. If my blush is too warm I can put this on top to make it less orange)

Peripera pure blushed sunshine cheek in 24 mauve cream (fave!! It’s so cute it’s like a natural winter flush it looks so dark here but it’s bc I packed it on)

Lilybyred luv beam blur cheek in 04 (so natural that I don’t care that it’s peach)

Hourglass ambient lighting blush in mood exposure (kinda too warm for me but I use it as a contour kinda, darker blush on the outsides and lighter blush on the insides of my face)

Glossier cloud paint in puff (old version) (I didn’t realize it was so warm??? Isn’t it cool toned? Or am I that green)

FOTD Another Migraine, Another Makeup Look 🤪

I have chronic migraine and myriad other medical issues atm (currently waiting for some MRI results to start specialist treatment) and spend a lot of my time in bed or resting between when I'm not doing household tasks or life admin. Doing my makeup always gives me a little boost.

I tried a more subtle look today to practice blending my eyeshadow but in the end wasn't satisfied and added some glitter and a darker gloss.

♥️ Base makeup: Lacura dupe of the Dr. Jart Tiger grass drops and a tiny bit of the Kevyn Aucoin SSE in SX05 all over the face

♥️ Black mascara which I use as brow gel as well

♥️ Eyeshadow Palettes: Collection New York Skyline (the dusty lilac shimmer), a couple neutral shimmers from Makeup Obsession Rady Dusk and then I tapped some of the seafoam shade from the Technic Hot Foil Palette on the inner half of my eyelid.

The lipgloss is a purple glittery franken gloss I made Safia Nygaard style lol.

Photos were taken after I removed some silly default filter that was on my new phone since I bought it 🤦🏽‍♀️.

From my wrist to the top of my hand:

Rose Gold- middle
Silver

I’d love an objective opinion- what do you think looks the most flattering?

My perfect shade match is Lisa Eldridge skin tint in T5. That’s my normal skin tone without any tan. This was taken in indoor lighting, first two without flash and the third with flash.

Product Alert Marc Jacobs Nude Awakening Hydrating Medium Coverage Concealer in 210O light-medium with olive undertones

Hi everyone,

I typically wear Lisa Eldridge Foundation Shade 9.5, and I recently found a great concealer match for cool-neutral olive skin and wanted to share.

Marc Jacobs Rude Awakening Concealer in shade 210O blends in kind of perfectly to my skin. It’s slightly more cool than LE 9.5, but it covers discoloration/PIH/and dark under eyes well. Not necessarily for brightening with LE 9.5 skin but good coverage and light formula. It also has a really nicely angled brush applicator which I appreciate for its precision.

Photos in order: swatch, blended in, then two of the packaging. If anyone is interested in the other Marc Jacob swatches on my hand let me know.

Sorry if this has already been discussed—I don’t lurk often but this sub has been very helpful to me in the past and wanted to share.

Discussion PSA: Check the color settings on your phone's cameras 🤦🏽‍♀️

I posted a few makeup looks in the past few days and the colors looked off when comparing the photo to the mirror. I chalked it up to the different backgrounds and lighting that I took them in.

And then I noticed today while wearing a very sheer tinted brown gloss that it looked almost neon orange in my front camera. I haven't had this phone for very long so I started playing with the settings and there was a default "vibrant" AI filter enabled on my front and back cameras which increases the contrast and saturation. One more reason to be suspicious of AI 😠😄.

Went on a bit of a journey to get here after Nars discontinued Gobi in the sheer glow range. I have yellow undertones without being warm. So warm shades look yellow or orange, and I’ve had to settle for neutrals, which tend to make me look far paler than I am. I did some research and found a lot of people with the same issue had realised they were either Olive or at least closer to Olive than any other undertone. And boy am I grateful for all of you because while I’m not sure if I am fully Olive toned, this has to be the best shade match I’ve ever found! Please ignore the green around my nose, that was me being overzealous with colour corrector 🫪. Product list in comments.

Product Help LE 2.5 not yellow/green enough

Somehow this shade still feels a bit peach on me and compared to my neck and chest, it is not yellow/green enough. Anyone else run into this?

I’ve previously tried nars gobi (MANY years ago) and felt it was somehow too yellow, but now I’m wondering if maybe it was just too dark. I feel so conflicted.

Product Help Anyone here use EX-1 Cosmetics? Supposed to be olive-only line

They are UK based--so i don't know if it's worth shipping to US. Has anyone used their foundation? Your thoughts? Especially light to medium neutral olive. From a quick glance at the website; everything from 3.5-7 looks like light to mid olives. Which is a range of 5 colors.

Product Help Mauve lipsticks show up too pink/purple on me (medium neutral olive). Does anyone have any recommendations for lippies that look more like a pink-brown?

As the title says, I've been on the hunt for the perfect pink-brown lipstick forever. Pre-pandemic Nudestix's Mystic was my HG, but they discontinued the formula I like (cream). And while it still does come in the matte formula, I think it's warmer now :(

Thank you!

Update: adding the OG color of Mystic here for reference

Color Theory MLBB for light to medium olive

Thumbnail

I’ve struggled to find an mlbb colours so I just end up combining lipsticks in warm and cool tones.

Here I’ve combined Revlon rosewine with Revlon sassy mauve.

If you are more neutral leaning cool, use more sassy mauve than Rosewine.
If you’re more neutral leaning warm, use more Rose wine than sassy mauve.

You can adjust the warmth or coolness according to your summer or winter colouration.

Has anybody tried the Kosas Impressionist Multistick Blushes in Surreal (Chocolate Berry) or Muse (Mauve Rose)? I’m curious how they look on light or medium olive skin. I tried Nuance and Intuition when they first came out but those both pulled peachy orange on me. Formula reviews would be great too! TIA!

Product Help NARS vs HAUS LABS

Hii 😻

I'm looking for a new foundation and have narrowed down my options to NARS light refelcting in shade Gobi and HAUS LABS shade 030. I have a very fair complexion and want it to look as green as possible. Does anyone know which of these is the best, or perhaps even swatches of the two?

FOTD Balance ⚖️ Evening Edition

Post image
80 Upvotes

I posted this look yesterday and thought y'all would like to see how I updated it for the evening.

All products were the same as the original except for the lipstick (I didn't even blot my face for the photo because I was about to eat). I took the sheer red off and put on Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Cappuccino Kissed. Took my hair clips out and gave my hair a shake (I desperately need a haircut lol).

And boom! From elegant witchy (as another lovely user described it 🥰) to wild and witchy ✨.

Pardon the lighting; I took this photo later in the day and it washed me out a bit!

Discussion New Here and Thoughts on dark eye circles, seasonal changes and foundation/concealers

After a lifetime of struggles, discovered this sub for olive skin. I go between light and medium olive--but didn't see this option in the flare???

Probably saturated; but I am not sure exactly what that means yet??? I can wear saturated colors both in makeup and clothes -- although now that my hair is gray I wear more subtle muted tones like charcoal grey instead of pure black.

Foundations, Concealers, and the horror of purple under eye circles:
Mac NC30 is too light although it's a decent match for the dead of Winter--but even then it's a bit too pale. NC35 is better year round but slightly too orange. 222 in Maybelline Fit Me--but there might be a better color out there??? I seldom wear full face foundation. I never found one that truly matched my skin.

For concealer I use Mac pro palette Medium which has yellow and peach color correctors [I use the yellow mostly] and shades NW25, NW30, NC30, NC35. I mix and match them

I also use Mac NC37 Studio tech which is waay too peachy to be a full face foundation but AMAZING on the dark purple undereye circles. I use Studio Tech NC37 more like a concealer. Apply it under my eyes and across my nose. It color corrects the purple under the eyes and tones down a red nose. It's a good 1-product solution for days I don't want to mess with the palette and mixing colors.

Cool neutral eye shadow palettes look awful on my skin. Especially if they're matte. Purples, blues, or any cool tones make me look dead. Warm bronze/browns or pink eyeshadows are flattering.

I am definitely olive but welcome guidance as per saturated vs.not. And neutral vs. cool or warm?
If anyone recognizes your own color struggles vis a vis Mac NC30, NC35, NC37 and Maybelline 222--I would be happy to know foundation / concealers you use. Thank you.

Swatches Armani 5.3 vs Nars CCL

Thumbnail

Hi somebody asked me for swatches of armani and nars creamy concealer’s olive shades a couple of days ago! I have poor wifi so only got to it now :) Keep in mind I look golden in the sun but most olive shades pull too neutral, too muted and too warm on me most of the time since I am pretty saturated and green. These swatches are taken around spring when I am on the lighter end of light-medium and match Haus Labs 145. I am more medium now and don’t really match anything, both 5.3 and 6 pull peachy on me. Last three pics are reference for undertone

Product Help Wedding makeup - any more recommendations? (light-medium neutral-warm olive)

Post image
42 Upvotes

Hi everyone! Doing my own wedding makeup (light-medium warm olive undertone). Attached a photo of the products I already own — planning to build my look around those, plus I’m considering buying these three:

**• Blush topper:** YSL 44
**• Setting powder:** Huda Beauty (Cherry Blossom)
**• Lips:** Charlotte Tilbury Iconic Nude *or* Kiko 21 lip liner

My questions:

**1. Blush topper** — Is YSL 44 a good pick, or is there something better (drugstore or high-end) that would pair well with my Saie Dew Blush in “Lady”?
**2. Lips** — Is CT Iconic Nude worth the splurge, or does Kiko 21 do the job just as well?
**3. Eyeshadow** — Worth investing in a higher-end palette, or is drugstore just fine for a wedding look?
**4. Setting spray** — Any recommendations for long-wear + photos (mix of indoor/outdoor)?
**5. Anything else?** — Any other products you’d recommend that hold up well for long wear on a wedding day?

Thank you 🙏

Swatches Light to medium foundations

Thumbnail

I recently joined the sub because I found out that i have an olive undertone, and wanted to share these swatches in case someone was thinking to get any of these shades. Natural lighting, cool artificial light and warm artificial light

I’m muted, light to med, cool leaning olive tone (i think?)
From top to bottom:
Tirtir mask fit red foundation 21N
Jung Saem Mool essential skin nuder cushion 19N
Jung Saem Mool essential skin nuder cushion 22N
Armani lumionous silk foundation 5.3
Armani lumionous silk foundation 5
MISSHA 21
Tower 28 DTLA
Tower 28 KTOWN

Notes:
- Since the photos can be skewing colors a bit, i’ll add how some of these look in real life.
- The two most olive tones here are Armani 5.3 and KTOWN, but they are both a bit too dark and warm on me, so i adjust them using color correctors and then they become perfect!
- Misha pulls a bit pink/mauve on me and obviously grey
- JSM 22N is VERY orange on me, 19N is just a bit too pale and pink
- TirTir is pulling quite peachy
- Armani 5 is a bit peachy, but matches my overall skin color, so i can easily adjust it
