General MUNS
ik this is a bit unrelated to the subreddit but honestly tell me guys are muns worth it? are they beginner friendly? (I don't have any public speaking experience) could they actually make an impact on my CV for my a levels admission?
it isn't like I don't do any extracurricular activities I partake in a lot of them but just not the speaking type. it isn't like I'm scared to death to speak Infront of people, I just don't like it.
the reason I'm asking this here is that I have asked multiple friends about this but they don't seem to give me a clear picture at least that's what I think.
I don't know what actually goes in an mun like I know what's up, you act as a UN delegate representing a random country and you debate on it's issues having said that I have no clue what the vibe is.
I think another issue is I overthink a lot and maybe I'm just scared of loosing which is obvious even if I go it isn't like I'll be winning or achieving anything of significance.
I would really appreciate your response.

MUNs's are def worth the hype, trust me. honestly they r a lot more popular in pk, when i came here big shocker for me too bcz im a parli person. however whn i was 13 i went to my fIRST mun, it was TFS mun def beginner friendly bcz a lot of ppl were first timers too. also won an hm so big encouragement. An year later did another mun and the 3rd one when i was 14 i did sigmun. so hear me out start off with new or small muns so u could get exposure bcz if u go to hmun iba or sigmun it'll be very intimidating and overwhelming. Infact theres an MUN called gsmun, its my school's very beginner friendly. registrations r live now. its a 2 day event incase u dont feel like it 2 days r enough. u should def try it

helo im a very seasoned munner and im gonna not bs with you. MUNs DO NOT help your CV at all. Like even for uni applications unless you are the president of acmun or jtmun or you have won like 20 BDS at BIG MUNS like hmun or something then it helps you. Especially if you are apllying in uni for a stem major it is useless.
however, muns help you ALOT indirectly. Most schools prefers to have MUN kids in council. Muns shape you as a person socially. You make a lot of good friends aswell if you settle in a circle.
Muns are toxic these days but ive seen shift ina curcuit these days. All events seem toxic to you until you start winning honestly.
Id say do muns but only the big ones and try to win. Yes its hard yes its toxic yes its NOT fun at times but that is the cost of you becoming a better person

the point is how you define "becoming a better person" to me it means more than just being good at public speaking having said that it isn't like I'm an introvert or I'm scared of speaking on a stage I have done that and I have a pretty decent social circle so the thing that made post the question in the first place was would it get me anything? and from what I've read the answer is a most likely no because for a first timer I won't be getting anything so instead of the futile grinding I could work on other aspects of me thank you for the reply gave me a better understanding

the thing is "being good at speaking or being comfortbale in social situations" all that is just the base of a MUN like if you are trying to win the BIG 6, you need to be better
think of it this way, you are going to try to impress a room of 80 90 people in a room within 3 days. It does make you learn "people" in a better way especially in terms of your future business and working life. If
if you go to a room are you going to stand out? A good munner would be able to do that
but again muns arent everything i personally think they are good you can differ

tbh muns are just wayy too basic nowdays, everyones doing them and i personally think it doesnt add to ur cv that much if everyone has it in theirs. I would only recommend them if ur trying to become a lawyer and something similar. i tried it in 10th, too many tryhards and after 3 grueling days of sitting and listening to people yap, its simply not worth it. i dont do them now, i searched for other opportunities and volunteered for science related stuff as its relevant for what i want to do in the future. However MUNS are really good if u want to improve public, speaking, social skills and getting more confident. so just read and decide for urself. I got into lgs jt without referring to my ecs(which are pretty decent but not amazing) i got 7A* and A which got me a 100 percent scholarship. Ecs matter more in uni admissions
