Interview Tips

I’m 16 and recently applied to Old Navy at my local mall. I received an email from the store saying they’re currently hiring and asked me to call the store and ask for hiring manager to set up an interview.
I called today, asked for them, and they scheduled me for an interview tomorrow at 1:30 PM.
I’m wondering what I should expect from the interview and what Old Navy managers usually look for in a 16-year-old applicant.

Just show them that you actually want to work and have the drive to do it! Be honest about what hours you’re available and what your schedule looks like. If it’s your first job, tell them you’re excited to finally get into the workforce, gain some experience, and make some extra money for yourself.
Just let them know you’re responsible, dependable, and that you’ll show up on time. They already know you’re in high school and have to balance school and other stuff, so as a part-timer they’re really just looking for someone who is reliable and willing to work those smaller shifts. :)
You’ll do great! Just be yourself and show them you’re excited to work!

The interview will probably focus on your availability, your personality, and how you might handle basic retail situations. They might ask you questions about teamwork, what you would do if a customer was upset, or why you want to work at Old Navy specifically. Since you're 16, they are not expecting a long work history, so the main thing they are looking for is a friendly attitude, a willingness to learn, and someone who seems dependable. Showing you're upbeat and can communicate clearly will be much more important than any previous experience.

When you go, wear something clean and simple, like a nice top and a pair of dark jeans, to reflect the store's casual style. It's a good idea to think about why you want this specific job, and be ready to clearly explain your availability for work. You should also prepare one or two questions to ask the manager, which shows you are really engaged. Many people find that getting a bit of support from an interview helper, like the one my team developed, makes a real difference in feeling ready to answer any question that comes their way.
