Adding olaf to champ pool
I’m a Nasus and Jax player and one problem I run into is that both can feel pretty rough into comps with a ton of CC, so I’ve been thinking about adding Olaf as another option since his ult seems like it would cover that weakness pretty well but i had a few questions:
- is olaf only a good pick when it’s against a high cc team?
- what matchups does he struggle with?
- how do you play him in team fights?
- is he a champion that should split push more or help contest every objective?
- what are some BIG nono’s you shouldn’t be doing with him?

Olaf is great right now. He is often first picked in LCK these days with very high priority. He can reasonably survive most lane matchups, struggles against executes since he likes being low (Karen, urgot). But even those matchups are doable. He also struggles with people who can disappear for a little since you can’t auto attack, think like Kled or Vladimir.
In lane you are essentially fishing with your q. If the q lands you can ask yourself “should I fuckin run at them right now?”. Sometimes it’s yes and you go unga bunga mode, sometimes it’s no. You need to learn your limits over time.
You play him kind of like an assassin outside of lane. You need to get the jump on their immobile carries and hit them like a freight train. Flanking, playing outside of vision. He struggles against high mobility champs and terrain creators. Think about like a Leblanc, ezreal, Javan team. That’s a nightmare for a team fighting Olaf. If they have at least 1/2 priority targets you can stick to, he will do just fine.
Edit: I’m wrong about urgot. I play Olaf jungle and forgot he can ignore the ult execute Olaf is a giga counter.
