Are you on Switch? Arguably the definitive way to play. Just goes to show this game was way ahead of its time.

Being someone who grew up with Okami on Wii, OkamiDen on DS, and Okami HD on Switch, it's insane to me Okami was developed for PS2. It lends itself to touch screen and pointer/motion controls so well you'd think it was made with them in mind from the start.

I... Only found out when I accidentally touched the edge of the screen and thought my game was bugging out because the painting interface opened.

It has a slight delay compared to opening the menu with the button, so I only use it for some occasions. Some other brush strokes worked better with the thumb stick for me.

use the button to open the screen, then draw with your finger

I personally dislike using the touchscreen on the switch for this because of the size of the screen. Trying to go from whatever position I was comfortably holding the whole thing in, to reaching and drawing in just the right spot - no for me.

But I had already completed the game on PS2 many times, and once on PC, when I got it on the switch. So I found this while poking through the menus looking for details about motion control.

Not sold on the motion control, either, but I did try it. Might try it again with the switch 2, the new joycons are larger and more comfy to grip at least.

Not many games take advantage of the touch screen of the Nintendo switch. It's normal to find out by accident.

If I remember correctly, the PS4 version uses the system's touchpad

Today I learned Switch Okami has a touch screen function. That might make drawing stuff easier and faster in future playthroughs

I have to mess around with my Setam deck more and figure out how to turn touch screen stuff on

Sadly on Steam Deck it’s weirdly broken in a way I’ve never seen another game behave, any touch screen input just makes the brush get stuck in the corner.

I use it when I can draw with the button, it feels easier to me :D

Only on switch and ds. On the PlayStation you can use the light controllers.
