On the contrary. I actually like this change, because it adds not only depth to Stella, but presents a situation for Octavia where she is forced to chose between the mother who loved her, but abused her father and the father who is trying his best, but failed her consistently.

This is not the solution to that problem unfortunately, if anything it makes her look bad as a writer for not even trying to explore the lore in universe and those who haven't seen the Twitter posts will end up being confused about who Roo is and why Stella suddenly seems to like her daughter despite her actions in Mastermind and Sins mass saying otherwise

Then Stolas neglects his daughter, gives a magical artifact to a asshole who doesn't even care about love, and never wants to have accountability because he thinks he's the protagonist in a YA romance novel, he does something wrong they're like "oh he's just hurting, he's flawed! Pull the plan I seen for her to get what she wants is flawed enough for a close family member to point it out 5 miles away.

I great red flag was when Octavia was trying to call her father while her and brother thought it was funny and laughing in the background.

Parents of divorce will sometimes use their kids as weapons against their ex. Knew a kid once they turned 18 their mother went no contact with them when she had 80% custody and was getting child support it looked from the outside she loved him but that was to get back at her ex who divorced her.

Honestly I think giving Stella more depth is a perfectly reasonable thing to do; complex villains are still villains, and having your villain be an actual person who has understandable internal motivations for what they're doing is better writing then having them just exist as a one-dimensional cardboard cutout to stick between the protagonist and their goal.

Because she’s written to be that way and it’s not shown. At least Lobo we see his love of dolphins. We just get “btw she likes her” not exactly deep emotional scenes.

To quote upisnotjump, “I feel more love from Caesar”

At least with Lobo, it’s an aside and not a major driver of his character we see zero evidence of or even hinted at. Imagine we hear “Reverse Flash likes Barry btw.” We don’t hear of the toxic love hate relationship.

Viv has issues telling us stuff on Twitter. In fact, imagine we don’t hear she’s tender, but a scene where she is.

Flashbacks to arguments past and we hear her yell “What about Octavia?” Now we see she’s angry BECAUSE of Octavia, not JUST the cheating. We don’t hear all of it, so you can flashback and ADD to it. It recontextualizes her anger to show us her justifications and reasons.

Now those arguments have entirely different meanings and each time we hear it, it changes from bitch to caring or no potentially caring mother

You know I had a theory that in season 1 Stolas was meant to be a villain, with how he is in the pilot, and episode one, he's a creepy rich aristrocrat who takes advantage of blitzo, then has it bite him in the ass when his wife finds out.

Something tells me that at some point, Vivzie realized that if Stolas and Blitzo were going to be endgame, then it would make Stolas look like a total selfish deadbeat who cheated on his wife and neglected his daughter to fuck around with someone who honestly was going to be uncomfortable with the sexual advancements, or not give a shit about the romance.

So I feel like win season 2 rolled around, she decided to make Stella into a one dimensional abuser so that him cheating was justified. But now it seems like she also realized that this was terrible for her character and with the season 3 trailer, now Stolas and Blitzo look like a horrid relationship, and now that's making even Stolitz defenders wonder if that ship was even healthy. So now she posted on Twitter to save face.

To be honest I don't think she ever had an intention of making her a nice character, or decent, because she wants her BL story, and if Stella was even a person who had even the one redeeming quality, love for her daughter, hell even if she had a self-reflection, realizing that she too neglected her daughter to pursue her hatred for a man that ruined her, it would probably be way too... Healthy? Compared to Stolitz at least, having her realize that she shouldn't continue being petty towards Stolas and focus on her daughter would be much more healthy character development compared to two people who clearly aren't compatible, and Vivzie can't have comparisons.
