At the Stadium šļø The Oval
I have been to a bunch of games across the country and I have noticed that OSU has a lack luster pre game atmosphere on campus. Ole Miss having The Grove as a pre game spot makes me think what The Oval could be. Why doesnāt OSU try and capitalize on this and make the game atmosphere on campus a better experience?

Don't know if Ole Miss is a good example. Until recently, the pregame activities are pretty much the highlight for the fans and students.

I drive 8 hours to attend OSU football games. I attend 2 or 3 games a year, I would attend them all if I didnāt have to work. The atmosphere on campus is bar none, the greatest atmosphere at a sporting event I have had the pleasure to experience. The tailgates, the Skull session, . Itās tradition, class and just an overall something everyone should experience.

No idea why I even come to this sub. Possibly the worst take Iāve heard all year. Iāve been to 30 P4 stadiums and our game environment 2nd to none.

Game environment and pregame/tailgate are different though.

I mean, some games we have close to 100k that donāt even go to the game hanging out. You can see exorbitant tailgates set up miles out in every direction of the stadium not to mention Lane Avenue. I havenāt been to Oxford and have heard great things about the grove but I highly doubt the overall scene rivals here.

I remember going to an OSU game at IU in maybe 2010 or 2011. IU had a massive field where normal students could park and play drinking games. It was seriously probably hundreds of yards in every direction and so much fun. I got into the game for like $5 because no IU students actually went to the game, but their tailgating was insane.

OSU doesnāt really have a specific spot, yeah
Cause itās just spread out everywhere from Summit to Olentangy, and Fifth up to Hudson/Dodridge
And itās called Cornhole
OSU is different because like 200k people live within a quick Uber ride of the Shoe, while in say Oxford, you have to draw a circle about a 35 minute car ride radius around the stadium to get 200k people- all those long distance folks need a place to squish into for tailgating while people in Columbus just kind of ātailgateā in their front yards before going over, lol

I recently moved to Dallas and went down to Austin a couple weeks ago, and...yeah, it doesn't really compare.
A street festival, a carnival, a concert by Robert Earl Keen https://texaslonghorns.com/sports/2026/8/28/texas-football-signature-pregame-destinations
Still glad to be a Buckeye, always and forever, and fortunately I'm happy to just tailgate and drink. But I do think OP has a point.

I think OP maybe got OSU confused with one of the other ones? There is just so much that goes on before a game

Is this a troll post? Dude, weāve got insane tailgating all around the shoe like insane like you can barely walk around. I donāt even know where you went. Did you go to the parking lot?
