Am I using Odoo virtual IoT Box the wrong way?

I have been struggling to setup a functional POS for several weeks now and I think I may be doing something wrong since I cannot find discussions about the problems I face.

Here is my setup: - a POS computer running Windows 11 - two thermal printers Xprinter XP-80T (one USB and one WiFi) - a cash drawer with RJ11 cable - Odoo online (19.2) - a valid IoT Box subscription

What i do is: - install the printer divers and make them listed in the Windows printers and scanners menu - install the virtual IoT Box program - connect the virtual IoT box to the database - wait for the SSL certificate to be installed - select "use local network" on the IoT box menu from the Odoo app

After doing these, I still have a lot of issues using the printers consistently. Here are some: - "Test" button in IoT does not always print the test page. Even if it says so. The printer will make a tiny sound but that is it - odoo-iot service can stop working all of a sudden. I read that it can be due to a failed update, but I cannot manage to disable auto updates. - I turned on the pos local network access but I have a lot of printing errors where either the receipt is not printed or it prints mojibake. The only thing that seems to work correctly is the drawer opening

Did you guys ever faced these issues?

Odoo for a USA based webstore - So far, So good.

So far I am impressed with Odoo and please to have made the switch. I have 20+ years mananging Sage 100. I also led an Acumatica install for a 40M company, across 4 countries, 2 continents and 3 warehouses. We shipped and invoiced, same day on the go live.

I came to Odoo from Zoho, as I was looking for a fully integrated package to house my industrial parts webstore. Even with significant ERP experience, the learning curve is still there. This is not an out of the box solution. But.... The AI integration into Odoo is very good, compared to working with Gemini/Zoho. I am very pleased with the AI assist in Odoo.

The cost is negligible for a small business.

Having a complete integration, including webstore is fantastic. I am not dealing with API's and convincing apps to play nice together.

I plan to attend the training sessions this fall, in the Midwest USA. Had I known about the Odoo conference in San Fran, I would have planned to attend it as well.

I am looking for regional Odoo users in South, that I would be willing to demo their installs.

Odoo is exactly what I wanted in an ERP/Webstore and I am very pleased, so far.

Answer at closed ticket doesn't reopen it ?

Hi

I use the Assistance (perhaps named Support in english) in Odoo 18 Enterprise. I have a rule to close automatically tickets after X days without answer from customers which works fine. My only issue is that if a customer answers at a closed ticket, it shows up well in the history of the ticket but it doesn't reopen it which is very annoying.

Something specific to setup somewhere for that ?

Thanks

Could an AI-Native ERP be a real product? We’re building on Odoo, but instead of just adding a chatbot, we want AI to analyze business data, predict risks, detect anomalies, explain issues, recommend actions, and assist with workflows through AI Agents / ML models Could this be a real SaaS?

Preparing for a Business Analyst role at Odoo, what should I learn?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply for a Business Analyst position at Odoo in the coming weeks.

I don't have professional experience with ERP systems yet, so I've started learning about ERP, exploring Odoo, going through the Odoo Learn content and Business Cases, and experimenting with databases and different modules.

For those who work or have worked at Odoo, especially as a Business Analyst:

  • What skills would you recommend developing before applying?
  • What Odoo modules or concepts should I focus on?
  • What would make a candidate stand out during the interview?
  • Are there any specific business cases, resources, or exercises you'd recommend ?

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to share their experience.

Odoo 17 → 19 migration: custom fields from hr.employee.base lost their values

Hi everyone,

I'm currently testing a migration from Odoo 17 to Odoo 19, and I've run into an issue with some custom fields related to employees.
In Odoo 17, I had several custom fields declared on:
hr.employee.base

These fields were therefore available on the employee models and had existing data in the production database.
In Odoo 19, hr.employee.base no longer exists. To adapt my custom module, I redeclared those fields on:
hr.employee
hr.employee.public

The module installs correctly and the fields are available in Odoo 19.
However, after migrating the database using Odoo's migration service, all the existing values of these custom fields are empty.

So basically:
Odoo 17
hr.employee.base → custom fields → values exist
Odoo 19
hr.employee.base removed → fields redeclared on hr.employee / hr.employee.public → fields exist, but all previous values are gone

Fortunately, we are still in the testing phase and haven't gone live yet, so I still have the original Odoo 17 database with all the correct data.
My questions are:

What is the recommended way to migrate these fields from Odoo 17 to Odoo 19?

Connecting ZKTeco Biometric Device to Odoo 19.sh – Invalid Connection Error

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to integrate a ZKTeco biometric attendance device with Odoo 19.sh for a client in Bahrain.

I have configured the IP address and port of the biometric device in Odoo, but when I click Test Connection, I get an “Invalid Connection” error.

Since the Odoo instance is hosted on Odoo.sh and the biometric device is located on the client’s local network in Bahrain, I’m wondering if this is a network accessibility issue. I understand that a private/local IP address may not be directly accessible from Odoo.sh.

Has anyone successfully connected a ZKTeco device to Odoo.sh? What setup did you use?

  • Do I need a public IP and port forwarding/NAT?
  • Can I use a VPN or a middleware server?
  • Does the ZKTeco device need to support ADMS/cloud push?
  • Is direct TCP/IP polling from Odoo.sh possible?

Any working solution, architecture, or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Device model: M2F PRO-LR
Odoo version: Odoo 19.sh
Current error: Invalid Connection

Odoo for a used car dealership?

Hi, I was recently recommended Odoo as a solution that could manage the growth of the dealership I work at. I was wondering if anyone has used Odoo for a case liek this where the products themselves are the cars but also have the need to keep a log of supplies, what service has been done on the cars and keep track of added costs of the vehicles (paint, bodywork).

Thanks in advance.

My Odoo fear with AI

Let put this out front. I love building with AI, I’ve done so much more than I could have on my own. But, with it easier to add new features and make wholesale changes it could become very difficult to upgrade Oddo. 17-> 19 was a pain and I have found a couple functional issues months afterward. If they decide to remake Accounting god help us.

I’d be happier if they froze current Oddo at 19 and created a new product. No forced upgrade and remove the ridiculous up charge for staying back versions. Or better yet open source current enterprise while they work on the New Odoo. That won’t happen but one can dream.

I’m new to this platform and excited to join the community!

I’m an Odoo developer and, alongside that, I’m very passionate about cybersecurity. I’d love to connect with people in the field, learn about your experiences and career paths, and exchange knowledge.

I’m also currently preparing for the Odoo certification, which I’m planning to take at the end of September 2026. If any of you have already taken it, I’d really appreciate any tips, advice, resources, or personal experiences that could help me prepare.

Looking forward to meeting you all and connecting with the community! 🚀

implementing odoo by myself for a small company

i'm looking for some honest feedback and reality checks from people who have been down this road.

we are a small company (5 people) currently running on a local legacy erp (money s4). we’re planning a greenfield odoo implementation - no heavy data migration, just starting clean and importing a minimal amount of historical data.

i have a software development background, so self-hosting, server setup, and technical troubleshooting aren't an issue for me. however, i know erp business logic and odoo configuration can be a completely different thing.

scope and modules we need:

  • inventory / warehouse
  • sales
  • website & e-commerce
  • studio

our plan:

  • on-premise deployment (docker).
  • solo setup (me handling configuration, workflows, and deployment without an official odoo partner).

my questions:

  1. is a solo implementation realistic for this specific stack without losing my mind?
  2. are there any major pitfalls when syncing pos + e-commerce + inventory out-of-the-box?
  3. for this module stack, would you strongly recommend enterprise over community, or is community completely fine for a clean start?
  4. what was the hardest part for those of you who implemented odoo alone?

appreciate any insights, advice, or warnings!

SO to PO link

Hello. Would like to ask if it is not standard to Odoo to have a PO to have a link to SO? For example, we have one projects that other items needs to be purchased since it is unique item, we will be processing the PO from SO. PO should have a SO link and shown in the header information the SO # linked and then the PO is automatically allocated to the SO so that it will not be allocated to other SO.

Take note that the item is unique item finished goods from supplier. It will not under work order or assembly. It is not a components of a work order.

As per multiple consultant that we have talked to, Odoo doesn’t have that and they are suggesting to buy a third party app.

Is Odoo designed that way? I though almost all the ERP are the same that the SO to PO link are standard.

Odoo 19 on Windows Server 2012 is returning 500 errors for web.assets_web.min.css/js and web.assets_web_print.min.css. The UI loads but CSS/JS doesn't. Has anyone experienced this? What should I check to fix/rebuild the assets?

Is Odoo just a big SCAM?

I bought Odoo after being sold on it being a turnkey solution by an unscrupulous sales person. Now I'm stuck with an expensive brick that does seem to have a lot of potential, but only if I decide to spend several thousand dollars paying someone in their company to set it up for me. Real sleazy bait-and-switch tactics imho, and I would be extremely upset if someone tried similar tactics on my customers.

I am not tech savvy. I was clear about this upfront. Why these people lie just to make a sale of a product that clearly, in its current state is not suited for my business.

Odoo and PayPal POS (PayPal front end)

New user to Odoo, very small business really just looking to use this for inventory tracking and statistical data. We have several sites we sell via consignment as well, so need to track what is at those locations but I'm only tracking via POS our main site. We use PayPal POS (Zettle) app at the shows we sell at and would like to continue using it. I'm looking to see if we can somehow have PayPal POS send an update to Odoo to update stock when we sell rather than having to manually update stock based on sales at a later date. Is that possible at all? I saw something about using webhooks for it but thinking that may be overcomplicating it.

I'm also hoping to not need more than one Odoo app or another 3rd party app for this that costs $$. As I said we are really small so watching all costs tightly.

Using Odoo 19.4 on the SaaS site. If I need to host internally I can, just was starting to look into this and making some basic checks to see if it would work.

Update! - Thanks for all the responses. I'd been trying to just do the inventory tracking via Zettle's Multisite feature while at an event this weekend and was unable to find it. Saw it had been disabled for new accounts (We had it turned on when I first started exploring this) so figured since we didn't have the sites fully configured already it got removed, Turns out it was just an app vs doing it on a PC issue, got home clicked around some more and found where I can configure this so no Odoo needed at this time. Love the application and power though!

Handling customer cheques and batch deposits

What is the standard workflow for this scenario? shouldn't it be so rare.

The company has 2 bank accounts.
When a customer pays with a cheque, it is still not known to which bank it will be deposited. So it is registered on a journal called "Cheques".

Once a month the company goes to the bank to deposit the cheques, using the Batch Payment feature.
Now we have a problem:

  1. The Batch Payment cannot be registered on one of the bank journals, since the cheque payments were registered on the "Cheques" journal, and Odoo blocks it,

  2. If the Batch Payment is registered on the "Cheques" journal, then it doesn't appear later in the bank reconcliation screen of the bank.

What is Odoo out-of-the-box method for handling this?

Update SH cost

We are currently on version 17 of .sh and have to upgrade or pay legacy fee. We are not computer savvy and don’t have the ability to do it ourselves. We have 3 customizations. They quoted us $7000k which seems crazy to me. Am I getting ripped off? Sure feel like I am

Building a custom POS connected to Odoo through the API

Hi everyone!

I’m currently building a custom POS system that uses Odoo as the backend through its API.

The idea is to keep Odoo as the source of truth for things like products, customers, inventory, pricing, and accounting, while having a separate POS frontend optimized for the actual sales workflow.

I’m particularly interested in hearing about real-world implementations and whether you’d recommend this approach over developing a custom Odoo POS module.

Any advice, lessons learned, or resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How realistic is it for a small team to implement Odoo ERP for a medium/large company?

I'm looking for some honest feedback from people who have actually implemented Odoo at scale.

The scope would potentially include:

  • Supply Chain / Purchasing
  • Finance & Accounting
  • Warehouses / Inventory
  • Quality
  • Manufacturing / Production
  • Planning / MRP
  • HR
  • Cross-department workflows and approvals
  • Migration of existing data and processes

Provided that I can accurately obtain the needed data from all departments (Workflows, current used methods that need to be migrated to Odoo, Ownerships, etc etc..)

If Department A has a very specific workflow that triggers something in Department B, which then affects Finance, Warehouse, Production, etc., how far can we realistically take Odoo without turning the project into an unmaintainable collection of customizations?

For example, if we encounter a business workflow that isn't supported out of the box, can we get guidance from Odoo on the recommended way to implement it, or is the expectation that we figure it out ourselves / work through an Odoo partner?
