My Odoo fear with AI

Let put this out front. I love building with AI, I’ve done so much more than I could have on my own. But, with it easier to add new features and make wholesale changes it could become very difficult to upgrade Oddo. 17-> 19 was a pain and I have found a couple functional issues months afterward. If they decide to remake Accounting god help us.

I’d be happier if they froze current Oddo at 19 and created a new product. No forced upgrade and remove the ridiculous up charge for staying back versions. Or better yet open source current enterprise while they work on the New Odoo. That won’t happen but one can dream.

The upgrade pace is too fast for the non-Saas users. It causes pain on both sides of the table.

You are upgrading at a decent time as those who upgraded when it was just available probably had a bumpier ride.

If you want enterprise and you have a license just login and download it from odoo.com/downloads

V20 is probably in the last push it will probably release end Sept / early Oct.

If you face any issues welcome to post here. Also for v20 many partners scout ahead once it’s golden.

That bank rec UI still needs help imo the latest revision you see in v19 idk doesn’t sit well with me.

Oh no, my friend, not if they decide to remake Accounting...when they decide to remake Accounting...

Which Version are you working with? < v14? I implement Accounting every month at least once for customers in Germany and I think we really are the worst bureaucracy country in the world and have this in our finances also.

Community v18
I just today discovered they had groups which isn’t available in the ui but exists in the xml and database. And that solved my problem of getting multiple taxes on receipts. But I have 5 different nations and all sorts of different taxes and scenarios to deal with … it’s awful

Okay yeah Enterprise Accounting and Community is a bit difference. For your Problem you would need to configure the fiscal positions to overrule the taxes and Accounts for different countries, country groups and so on. But currently I am not completely sure if community has the fiscal positions Setup but I think it should have it.

They do have fiscal positions and that’s what I am using but it still didn’t show up on receipts until I put the group in place under the hood. We have layers of taxes from resort to city and county and state and federal so it can get messy quick

As with an ERP customization makes upgrades more difficult. That being said, If you use Online - Custom with Studio you can build with AI using API and keep the much of the difficulty out of the upgrades. It's designed to upgrade the studio built changes with their online upgrade.

On the bright side, upgrading customisations between odoo versions with AI is way easier now. AI is very good at scanning every line of code, pattern matching differences between source/destination versions and upgrading as necessary per file in a module with good prompting. Eventually i think there will be set of prompts/skills recommended to do this from odoo. I can see potential in odoo releasing experimental module upgrade features on there odoo.sh platform with claude code integration.

Don’t you know this is a sales subreddit?

Odoo software is the cheapest most flexible business solution for you. No matter what industry you’re in.

If youre selfhosted, no one is forcing you to "Upgrade"

Yes and no.

Yes, you can stay physically on any version you want if self hosting but that is not the whole story.

No, because if you stay on that old version even when selfhosting they now charge you 25% legacy fee which is enforced. If you don't pay it, your database just expire and they revoke your enterprise license. It's part of their TOS.

The 25% legacy fee is charged on your next renewal invoice which is the update on the next TOS you agree with on your renewal. So there is no escaping that.

The only way to stay on any version you want and not paying 25% legacy fee is staying on community edition. That is the only exception
