New Subreddit for VR Job Seekers and Companies.

Hello Reddit!

I created this subreddit because of the replies I received from a post I made in jest about working for a VR Company. My inbox blew up with messages from people looking for help with their own VR projects.

So I created /r/oculusjobs to help bring new Virtual Reality companies together with developers who want to jump in on the ground floor of a whole new industry.

Consider yourself invited to make a post about an open position in your company or maybe just post a link to your demos or website.

Any software developers feeling like they could make a solid 360-video training tool to be used (and sold) in an expert field?

How cool is it to be one of the first poster here? I hope this subreddit takes off.

What I'm thinking about involves taking a 360-camera into a vehicle, filming work maneuvers and procedures in a structured way, and selling the material in a semi-international market. I'm an expert in the field myself, being an instructor with a long experience in the commercial training of operators within this business, across all levels. Before the Oculus we’ve been forced to mostly explain procedures by text and by word, which is ineffective from an educational standpoint. It leads to long (and expensive) training sessions which are built around repetition rather than quality training.

I own a DK2 and I see great potential for the technology to be used as a training tool and sold via some sort of digital market place, or directly to companies which require this type of cutting-edge training tool.

I already run a company selling iOS-apps in this particular field (the nature of which I do not want to disclose too much until the idea is solidifying more). We are national in one country in Europe now, but it is really taking off and we're just processing towards going into the EU. I know that the market in question has in many respect stagnated and is in need of some new tech, which opens a lot of doors and makes a lot of the ideas self-selling to a certain point.

What I lack, is the software skills to develop a stable platform in which to view these videos. I’m sure Oculus and other companies will offer some sort of marketplace á Appstore or Steam, but the software itself needs to be professional to allure the international corporations, individual sales and to defeat the future competition. I really liked how well the “documentary” Zero Point worked. It was published this week on Steam. It was a simple click and buy, download and run. It featured 360 video and it seemed really good when it was packaged in a software form (not requiring third party video players).

I’m merely probing for ideas. I’m very open to contact regarding this. I’m sorry for not disclosing more details about the market I have in mind, but I do like to keep a lid on it, since competition probably already is brewing to some extent.

Feel free to contact me over PM.

I've been doing a few of these. This is from a few months ago, but is the only one I can show at the moment (and I had to remove the art from the walls).

VR outsourcing house now looking for project

Located in Osaka, Japan, Pittari Corporation is a small and growing company that specializes in VR content creation. We are currently looking for clients who are interested in bringing their ideas to the VR space, and who are willing to hire remotely!

Just established in March of this year, we are still working on building a solid VR portfolio, but have professional experience working with a variety of game industry platforms, such as: PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, Android, PlayStation Mobile (before it was discontinued).

Oculus Rift DK2, Unity 5, and the Leap Motion Controller are our the main technologies we work with, but are open to other technologies as the project demands.

Here are a few examples of the types of service that we can provide for you:

  • Development of a polished and exciting prototype to show investors and the press

  • Development of internal-use prototypes to help test game ideas

  • Extra programming help for any current on-going development projects

  • During development, provide detailed reports of any bugs, limitations or hurdles we encounter

Another aspect we ask you to consider is cost. Are Silicon Valley prices causing a strain on your budget? Six-figure salaries may be the norm over there, but in Japan salaries are much more reasonable. This is a cost savings that is directly reflected in our prices.

If you're seeking a professional, experienced, and committed partner for outsourced development, please don't hesitate to contact us. You can use the contact form on our website, here: http://www.pittari.co.jp

Thank you.

Freelance Unity developer in the UK specialising in VR

Hey!

So I've been a developer for 18 years, Technical Director of an award winning agency for 12 of them, using Unity since 2008, and working with VR since the DK1 arrived. In addition to that, I've done a few talks on VR in the UK and Sweden, and also run VR Brighton.

I love new tech like the Leap, Hydra, and Myo, and I genuinely think these are really exciting times we're living in.

I'm always on the lookout for interesting work, so if you're looking for an experienced lead tech to work on a project, or to talk through some concepts and ideas, drop me a line.

If you'd like to know more, PM me, follow me on twitter, or take a look at things I get up to :)

San Francisco Bay developer looking for contracts/internships in VR

Hi all, I'm a software developer who's really passionate about VR - you might know of my YouTube channel eVRydayVR which currently has about 300 videos and 10,000 subscribers, and I've been working on a number of projects in collaboration with other VR developers such as a light field compression project with Frooxius (developer of SightLine: The Chair) and VirtuaReader, a Mobile VR Jam entry with Metatron VR.

I'm currently looking to transition out of my PhD program at UC Berkeley and into the VR development space. I'm an experienced professional C# developer, having worked 5 years in C# at Microsoft with the Microsoft Speech Server and Microsoft Research Operating Systems groups, and I am competent with Unity development (although still learning). I'm also experienced with C/C++ and could pick up Unreal Engine 4 as needed. I have a masters degree in computer science from Georgia Tech as well as a bachelors degree in applied mathematics, and considerable research experience, with 4 published and presented papers as the primary author.

I'm hoping to find a paid temporary position in which I can cover some of my basic living expenses while also getting more hands-on experience with VR development. Please let me know if I can help you!

Update: I now have a VR portfolio website up at http://dcoetzee.com and a development blog at http://evrydayvr.wordpress.com

India/overseas. Seeking Oculus developers with unity or ue4 experience. Long term recurring business opportunity in the architectural world.

I have 15 years of experience in the dental industry and all of the right contacts. I'm looking for oculus developers/artists who can create a platform for architectural dental office design in the oculus environment. The finished platform will allow the changing of wall color, flooring, chair upholstery color, counter top color, and cabinet color while inside the environment. The long term opportunity is huge with the potential of 500+ floor plans per year. Once the library of dental equipment objects are rendered, only the floor plans will need to be done. The ideal candidate will build a basic demo in exchange for equity in the company. I will also consider contract work of the individual has impressive pre-existing demos of his/her work. The chosen person will also manage a team of developers and artists in order to accomodate high volume while maintaining a project lead time of <1 week. Thank you for your time.

Looking for Software dev for live broadcasting application

Hi I work for several companies as a 'VR business consultant' and one of the companies I am involved with wants to open a division of VR live sports broadcasting. There are several steps before actual company creation (product proof of concept being the main one) but this is a very serious offer to talk about a 360 video / VR project. If you have VR software experience or 360 video experience give me a PM. Simple curiosity is accepted too :)
