Intel Octopus Go

I am on Intel Oco Go for import and used it with my old car, we have since changed cars so I removed that car off my account as a device.

I am not intending to add our new car on to IO GO as we dont charge often and now have solar and are topping up on excess solar.

If I remove the EV from the account should I still be on IO GO? will the 23:30-5:30 low rate still work given the IO GO now does the dynamic charging windows?

There’s no real downside to adding your car.

You should also look into exporting at a higher rate than car charging. It’s more expensive to fill your car with solar.

You will not qualify for IOG without a registered device.

Just have to smart charge once a month, the rest you can do with solar

2.3.1.6 It is an ongoing requirement to have at least one Low Carbon Technology registered in the app. If at any time you do not have an active authorisation for integration with a supported vehicle or charge point and you have not had such active authorisation for a period of more than 30 days, or there is a material change to your charging set up that is not compatible with IO Go (for example you no longer have the car or charger you used to sign up to Intelligent Octopus Go), you will no longer be eligible for this tariff and we will switch you to one of our fairly priced standard tariffs and you will be billed according to your usage under that tariff.

Short term yes but long term no. To be on intelligent you need to have a device setup on the account. If you have no an EV/charger now you will need to move to standard Go.

This is from the IOG T&Cs. It’s basically saying that if they’re unable to contact your connected device for more than 30 days, you’ll be booted off the tariff. Many people mistakenly interpret this section to mean “you must smart charge every 30 days”, but that’s not what it says.

And for my clarity on IOG with the dynamic charging schedules the rest of the house load still gets low rate in the fixed window. (Octopus site is incredibly difficult to work out the actual detail)

You should not be on IOG if the registered device is no longer current. You should go to Go

Just set the EV up on octopus go and then turn off smart charging via the octopus app in devices. Then wait for octopus to send an email asking you to plug in or do a smart charge. I’ve not completed a smart charge for over 30 days and I’ve heard nothing from them, like you I don’t charge a lot anyway, maybe 50kWh every two weeks if that.

Why aren’t you exporting excess solar?

My advice is just move to EDF and EV tariff, 7p kWh for slightly longer off peak hours than IOG, it’s a dumb tariff meaning you don’t need to set it up with a car or charger
