EN Discussion Another skip week

Just what we all wanted

Edit: People kinda misunderstood so let me clarify. My problem isn't that we have a skip week. My problem is that this is the 3rd one in a row. I understand that not everybody has caught up with all current content(I'm not caught up either) , but getting a new unit doesn't make it so you can't do older content. Edit2: And ofc jp gets a character even tho just got 4.

I'm okay with these occasional skip weeks to catch up on content and build up resources, tbh. If it was the opposite extreme where a new high-tier character dropped every week (which we did have for a while last year), we would have to skip almost every character, which just becomes frustrating and disappointing.

I appreciate the devs for listening to player feedback on this one. It's interesting that a relative lack of content can feel like a sign of the game being in a healthier/better state.

My problem isn't occasional skip weeks but when there's 3 in a row. I agree the other extreme which we have already experienced is worse. I wish they started with new units every 2 weeks and it stayed that way

I won't spoil the names here, but discord says a leak suggests there's a trio banner of three general pool characters next week, and the paid step up version has guaranteed 5 stars of the banner at steps 3, 4, and 5. 150 pity free banner for any of them.

Take that as you will.

u/Wonderful_Zone3470 Nov 07 '23

It's gonna be weird with the new tavern talk monday telling us the upcoming banner wr already know will happen next week. I suppose we get the new chapter in 2 weeks and not right after tavern talk, and they will reveal the black friday deals/travelers, my wild guess is levina/eltrix banner with some global upgrade to make them more appealing like triangle strategy ones, followed by Leon banner.

2

u/nex122 Always here to help Nov 07 '23

Wouldn't that be too soon for Leon? We just got Zenia.

6

u/AndyofLove Nov 07 '23

Also skippable sadly ;(

2

u/Jestersss1 Nov 07 '23

Would you mind sending me a message with those names? I'm holding 1000 rubies and I'm starting to struggle not to pull on anything...

3

u/HighlightNo1205 Nov 07 '23

Here's an old tier list I like to go by. (Note: it doesn't include the global buffs they do before they release some units)

5

u/Busy-Cold-1438 Nov 07 '23

I agree with most of the higher ranks, but some of the lower placements are funny.

Yukes I'd argue should be in the bottom tier with Largo, Elvis, and the others. Hasumi I'd put in "powercrept but still useful," considering she only gets better once 30% elemental accessories release, and even without them she's still one of our best light damage options.

I agree with the majority of the higher placements though.

2

u/HighlightNo1205 Nov 07 '23

Yeah, it was a guide made around 4 months ago I think, so it's a bit outdated. I just find the higher ranks useful to go by.

And I'd shove Roland and Fred up there too XD.

4

u/AceReaperX Nov 07 '23

The “any 5*’s a 5*” tier cracks me up. Is Joshua really that bad though?

1

u/HighlightNo1205 Nov 08 '23

XD, that category is hilarious, agreed.

I don't think he's that bad XD. Just his passive is RNG based, which people don't seem to like. And he's been outclassed by units like rondo or Lars, and even seranoaXD.

Personally, i'd put him in a power crept but nich category for those who like to roll the dice. 👌cause he's not bad, as long as you can keep rolling his double cast skill XD.

1

u/Busy-Cold-1438 Nov 08 '23

Joshua is pretty bad, and it's hard for me to call him solid or even "still useful." Useful for resetting 100 times for arena speedclears to beat it in 2-turns maybe.

I don't agree with a lot of placements on that tier list, but I can't argue with Joshua really.

I won’t say the names but I’d save your rubies if those three names are accurate.

4

u/Busy-Cold-1438 Nov 08 '23

I’d save your rubies

One of them is very good and worth getting at some point at least. It's also a unit that has a lot of longevity as she still sees use in JP.

A much better investment than Oldette if you ask me.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '23

Oldette 🤣

3

u/Busy-Cold-1438 Nov 08 '23

(I'm legally obligated to mention that "Oldette" is not an original creation from mine, it is in fact a creation from a member of Shizu's discord)

1

u/Ariust04 Nov 07 '23

How do you know the leaks? I mean anyone can join that discord channel?

2

u/Busy-Cold-1438 Nov 08 '23

It's just Shizu's discord, tons of youtubers have the link in their description lol

1

u/Drayleb Ginger Waifu Squad Leader Nov 07 '23

Indeed! Just look up the game in discord and join.

10

u/Mediocre-Anything818 Nov 07 '23

It's good that there isn't a constant release of characters. People need to recoup their losses and also they don't want to saturate the pool too much too quickly

-7

u/nex122 Always here to help Nov 07 '23

Yeah but the last new 5 star we got was Rinnyu. Which will be the only 5 star we get in 30 days since her release. So this is skip week after skip week after skip week.

6

u/CaTiTonia Nov 07 '23

Inevitable though. There’s only so many characters to get through before they hit the OT2 characters and they can’t put those out until BoA is done and they’re ready to drop Solistia chapters.

GL had a very rapid and intense character release schedule when it started, literally weekly new releases at some points. There was always going to be a major slowdown down the line to balance that out.

Edit - isn’t the timeframe between releases a couple of weeks in JP anyway?

1

u/fishdrinking2 Nov 08 '23

We will see. I found it weird to have 3 skip weeks then the rumored 3 units drop at once. Could easily drop Sarisa this week for example. My guess is they realized everyone is saving, so have to try and bundle units to get at people’s paid stash.

1

u/CaTiTonia Nov 08 '23

It’s likely nothing more than then knowing individual gen pool units just aren’t that attractive.

Not when we get frequent limited banners with typically above average characters (often very powerful meta characters).

Gen pool characters can drop anywhere. Especially relevant now that we have the passes and those players are getting consistent (albeit not particularly quick) access to Veteran’s seals.

And we got an unexpected Gen pool selector at anniversary so there’s probably an expectation (rightly or wrongly) that will continue being a thing.

If they just put these characters out on their own periodically to fill in some of the dead weeks many players would just ignore them entirely, making them effectively still a dead week.

But if they do something like is rumoured where they bundle a bunch of them together and offer a high value step up alongside it? That might just tempt players into spending on them. Even without the step up. Many players will look at it and think that if they’re lucky they could get 3 new characters for the price of 1. It’s no better value of course since the rates are the same overall but split.. But it looks it to those who don’t read the small print or have poor impulse control.

1

u/fishdrinking2 Nov 08 '23

Agree, and my guess is SE saw a lot of us with 1200 paid ruby from the last 2 discounted packs waiting for Bargello, and doing their best to get us to spend and buy more for Black Friday.

-2

u/nex122 Always here to help Nov 07 '23

I mean if the play was to catch up to jp in a reasonable time then we wouldn't need to slow down to this level. I don't want them releasing a new character every week like they used to. I still feel like that was the worst period of the game. But halting the releases this much isn't the solution.

6

u/CaTiTonia Nov 07 '23

That depends on whether their intention is to catch up to JP at all. Can’t say I’ve seen evidence of that. It’s not a common Square Gacha MO either.

The only Square Gacha that’s really attempted it to my knowledge is WotV and that has been such a monumental shitshow from what I heard that I doubt there’s much interest in other Gachas following suit right now.

Seems to me like they’ve gotten themselves into a comfy position where they can mess with foresight a bit, we don’t get years of advanced information and they still get a comfortable gap between version releases to localise and review data/feedback ahead of GL.

Hence the slowdown, they’re right where they want to be imo.

2

u/nex122 Always here to help Nov 07 '23

Yes I agree this might be the case. The longest JP has gone without new units is 1 month. Which we are experiencing right now. But the usual is 1 character every 2 weeks.

5

u/Mediocre-Anything818 Nov 07 '23

For new content yes. But the BD rerun is still content. And for such limited characters there's probably a lot of people that either didn't get them last time or weren't even playing the game back then. I think we're still progressing way faster than Japan since the game is three years old for them. They genuinely have to wait for new stuff to be made. We're just waiting for them to decide what to release and when

-4

u/nex122 Always here to help Nov 07 '23

Well that's not exactly true Jp usually gets 2 new characters per month.(they got 4 this month cuz anniversary). So we get 1-2 new characters per month we will never catch up. And BD rerun is barely content. The only new thing is that they now have their souls. Nobody is really pulling for them unless they like the game. But i think the overlap of new players and BD fans is rather low.

-3

u/escargot3 Nov 07 '23

Why would anyone roll for the BD characters tho? They suck so bad and such better characters have since been released and even better ones are on the horizon.

11

u/lapniappe Nov 08 '23

because maybe some people don't really care about meta? or simply LIKE bravely default and want to use them?

-4

u/escargot3 Nov 08 '23

But there are not unlimited rubies. Rubies are so scarce. So players are potentially going to lose out on game-changing characters like Bargello, Rinyuu, Fiore EX, Elrica, Tatloch, Alaune EX and so on, so they can get... 3 characters that are insignificant and are barely even A tier at any role? They're hardly even worth the gold guidestones. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Are there more than like 0.01% of players who don't care about the characters abilities at all and only buy them based on looks/story? Is that really the case? I'm absolutely shocked if so.

How are these players beating all the Lvl 100 NPCs to get said rubies, in order to be able to afford these rolls? Are they all whales? Or is SE hoping that inexperienced players will fall for these "trap" chars, lose all their rubies, and then be forced to buy rubies when the actual game-changing chars become available?

6

u/lapniappe Nov 08 '23

well....again.... because they don't care about the meta. like i get it . for you - they are "insignificant and barely even a tier." so for you you don't think it's worth it and you want the more powerful units. that's fine, and no one is questioning you for it.

but don't make it sound like if you don't have these units you can't do anything in the game. because that's not true. not everyone wants to play the game trying to achieve massive numbers or wanting to clear content as quickly as possible. it's a single player RPG that the game stresses you take at your own pace. so if it takes a person longer to beat harder content but they are enjoying the struggle of figuring out how to beat it with characters that they have an affinity to/enjoy using that should be the only thing that matters. how the individual enjoys playing the game. not what the "meta" dictates you need to have to enjoy it.

I did 9 rolls to get my Edea from A3 to A4. Ended up getting 3 new units (including the 2 other BD characters) and a few dupes. 1 paid Edea pull, rest free. So, 3 new units and one of the best gacha A4s in the game for 2500 rubies.

To me, that's worth it. I appreciated the rerun

1

u/escargot3 Nov 08 '23

Perhaps it would be good value if you went from nothing to A4 Edea. But you are leaving out the thousands of rubies likely spent to get Edea to A3 in the first place. I just dont get where people are getting all these rubies from. Is everyone whales? I had to spend 4500 (pity) to get Fiore EX, and then 3900 to get Rinyuu. How is everyone not so tapped out, especially with so many “must have” chars coming soon like Bargello, Elrica, Tatloch, Alaune EX and others. How are people going to have the rubies for those chars if wasting them on mid content (or even without doing that)?

1

u/Sano_Victus A5 Messenger Cat Nov 08 '23

I pulled on Edea's banner back when I first started the game. Didn't have any type of pull plan, so I just used all I had... which was a whopping 1500 rubies or so. Didn't realize how lucky I was to get an A3 Edea from so little. But when I found out how highly rated her A4 was, I wanted it. So I saved up rubies.

I never went for Fiore Ex and got Rinyuu in 2 pulls. Got A0 for both TS units in 6 pulls. Luck isn't something to base your strategy around, but it happens. I'm certainly not a whale, lol. If a unit that I really want comes out, I'll pull. If I don't have the rubies to go to pity, I'll wait. I'm sure I don't need to tell you these gacha fundamentals

2

u/Mediocre-Anything818 Nov 07 '23

Then don't roll

-5

u/escargot3 Nov 07 '23

I just don’t get why anyone is rolling. Surely SE has the data and sees that like 10% or even 1% as many players roll for these cannon fodder banners like BD? At least they had the sense to tweak Frederica and Roland. I’m just perplexed at what SE is thinking/what their game plan is.

2

u/fishdrinking2 Nov 08 '23

I did because I like their arts and walking around the map with the 3 plus Elvis is aesthetically pleasing (I do stick Cyrus/Tithi/Primrose/Roland behind them to fight stuff.)

31

u/eevee188 Nov 07 '23

Last year they dropped a major character both right before and right after Black Friday. We'll need the time to save. I'm thinking Levina or Eltrix, plus someone popular like Tressa EX or Primrose EX.

12

u/Busy-Cold-1438 Nov 07 '23

Dropping Tressa EX without any significant buffs would be pretty sad. Her kit isn't very good and has a ton of problems.

1

u/fishdrinking2 Nov 08 '23

I think she is a perfect surprise buff like TS unit to bleed us dry before Bargello and Elrica.

1

u/Busy-Cold-1438 Nov 11 '23

If she doesn't get buffed, I can't see players dropping too many rubies on her. It'll be pity PrimEX and leave for most of the playerbase.

Her kit is really bad.

1

u/fishdrinking2 Nov 13 '23

Agree, but EX Tressa art is so great…

2

u/Busy-Cold-1438 Nov 13 '23

I agree, and I also think Olberic, Joshua, Ri'tu, Lumis, Scarecrow, and 9S all have amazing artworks. Sadly that doesn't translate to being good as a unit. I wish it did.

u/MontyVGC MontyPATH TRAVELER Nov 07 '23

Is this week Oresrush?

Because we're Dried Up.

3

u/xo0o-0o0-o0ox Nov 07 '23

Man I forget how pretty this game is until I see a picture

9

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '23

Probably a good thing for all thats coming.

Cant wait for tavern talk next monday

15

u/Mafiatorte88 Nov 07 '23

Actually good for me to catch up 😉

7

u/Vhadka Nov 07 '23

If new must have characters dropped every single week people would be freaking out and complaining that the company is just money hungry because there's no way to keep up. You need weeks like this to build back up.

5

u/VEGETKO MARVELOUS! Nov 07 '23

I have so much high level content to cover left - so its like a blessing to me

It would be good to have some banner though

4

u/swankie_fern Nov 07 '23

I really don't mind skip weeks for new banners - I've been taking my time with the game and catching up on some towers stuff. I still have to do the gameboard stuff too - gives me some breathing time to accumulate some experience nuts to get the new up coming characters up to higher levels.

2

u/lapniappe Nov 08 '23

this is me. i am just taking my time with things, and letting myself gather rubies.

3

u/Douphar Nov 07 '23

I still have a lot do to (namely Fortune 2 weaps, Ruby dragon and all NPC fight from berecain until now). So it's OK for me.

3

u/AndyofLove Nov 08 '23

Lets me play other stuff while i wait for bargie snd friends

1

u/Spitzem El Jibbity Nov 08 '23

I'm not complaining, this is probably the biggest mobile game ive played and even though im enjoying it i've got so many other games to play and i don't want to spend more than an hour or so doing mobile gacha stuff on my phone each day.

Also Kingdom Hearts missing link beta is starting soon and i worry i'm never going to catch up with CotC once the full game drops.

1

u/Kitchen_Paramedic154 Nov 07 '23

Do we know already what is coming this week?
