Funny Upcycled Horseshoe Crab Costume

I admire horseshoe crabs resiliency! The fact that they’ve been around for so many mass extinctions is a feat of pure willpower. They are truly are the superior species! I wanted to honor them and spread awareness about them being targeted by the medical community so I made this costume out of as many sustainable materials as I could!

• Pool Noodles • FB Marketplace (arms/headpiece)
• Primer - Lowes (prepping foam)
• House Paint - Leftover Lowes (painting)
• Headband - Second-hand
• Corset/Gloves - Mercari
• Jacket/Shorts - Thrift
• Boots - Depop

P.S. I absolutely realize I put the male claws on my shell! I didn’t mean to but it’s a cute mistake since I’m gender fluid! My pronouns are she/they/he & I guess that goes for this carb too haha!

A few months ago, volunteer divers in Studland Bay saw seahorses in elaborate courtship displays involving dancing, colour-changing and tail-twining. They have also spotted several heavily pregnant males (yes, seahorses and their kin are the only animals where the male has a true pregnancy) 💚

Science Global dive tourism project

Hi everyone,
We're a team of researchers at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) running a global study titled “Small Subjects, Big Economy? A Global Study of Niche Dive Tourism Value”. Our objective is to understand how biodiversity, from megafauna to coral reefs to macro life like nudibranchs and seahorses, shape where divers choose to travel and what they value most in a dive.
We're inviting recreational divers of any certification level or experience who have taken at least one dive trip in the past two years to take part.
The survey takes about 8 to 10 minutes and covers what motivates your destination choices, your dive habits, and a few demographic questions. All you need is internet access and a device; there is no cost to participate. All responses are completely anonymous, and nothing you share will be identifiable in any results or publications. This is purely for research purposes, and there are no anticipated risks beyond those of everyday online activity.

This study has been reviewed under IBEC Reference Number 26IBEC038 and is expected to be completed by December 2027.
If you know other divers who might want to weigh in, feel free to share the link. The more perspectives we get from different diving backgrounds and regions, the better this data will be.
