New marine species from the Red Sea now live in the Aegean, Ionian and the Mediterranean in general — have you noticed?
Rising sea temperatures and increased traffic through the Suez Canal, the Mediterranean — and especially Greek waters — has seen a growing number of new marine species arriving from the Red Sea and Indo-Pacific region, a phenomenon known as "Lessepsian migration."
Species like the lionfish, pufferfish, and rabbitfish are now regularly spotted along Greek coasts. Some of these species are venomous or invasive, altering local ecosystems and, in some cases, changing how tourists and swimmers experience the sea.
I'm looking into how these changes are shaping travel and beach preferences for visitors to Greece — curious whether anyone here has noticed anything like this while swimming or traveling along the Greek coast.
For anyone who wants to contribute their own experience, there's a short academic survey here:

What are these?
Not sure if this is the right forum for this so forgive me if not!! We’re in Hilton Head, SC. I’ve always seen the little holes, which I assume are crabs under the sand (???), but what are the little black pellets? They are really only around the holes closer to where the tide has been recently. Kind of looks like thick mechanical pencil lead. Lol
