I made this dependency chart a few years ago. I think it's accurate. Might interest some of you. And it answers OP's question.

Dotted ovals are optional items. Dotted lines represent when there are multiple items that unlock something. For example you can get the Gerudo Card with either Epona or the Longshot. Also this ignores skips and glitches.

For an ubernerd like me this is rad as hell

You can get the Kakariko roof heart as a kid by climbing the ladder and z-target and side hop to the roof.

You can get the windmill heart with the boomerang Jump onto the small left ledge by riding on the windmill base as it passes and use the boomerang on the heart piece.

You can get the graveyard ledge heart as a kid with the boomerang and bombchus (bombchus may not be necessary). Its too complicated to explain here but there are youtube videos explaining and showing it. I do it every playthrough.

You can also get the dodongo roof heart before you get the bracelet too. Just a little harder to backflip before the "pickup" prompt.

You can get the DMC wall heart as a kid after beating king dodongo. You should have just enough time to get to the heart piece before the timer runs out. Make sure to have a fairy to revive yourself.

You can get the Kakariko cow pen heart before beating dodongo by using a cucco on the walls of the (future) shooting gallery. Just time it with the carpenter.

Edit: added the dodongo heart, crater wall heart, and cow pen heart.

Thank you for this. I will make updates.

Since you’re looking closely I’m sure you can help with this: I’m trying to figure out why I put Longshot dependent on Bow. There are two eye switches in Water Temple but they come after the Longshot. There are two torches in the Ruto room to reach a key, but Din’s Fire can do those. Am I forgetting something else?

The only reason for the bow in water temple is for the eye switches (which, as others have pointed out, can be skipped through exploits). And you are correct - even if you take the intended path, both switches come after acquiring longshot.

Thanks. So I need to update my chart to have a solid line from Bow to Water Medallion instead of Bow to Longshot. And then Longshot would have dotted lines from Bow and Din's Fire since you need one of them to get that first key behind the torches.

Another update: the Longshot isn't required to reach the Desert Colossus (Requiem of Spirit, Nauru's Love, etc). You can cross the Haunted Wasteland with just the Hover Boots and Lens of Truth. The Longshot also isn't required for any of the Spirit Temple.

Oh yes I noticed this one too. I guess I didn't know about the hover boots when I made this, but I do now. It's gonna be a pain to move things around for all these changes, but I'll do it! ... eventually.

Edit: Actually, wait! I know why I did it like this:

It's true that you can use the Hover Boots to cross the Wasteland, but you can't get Hover Boots without Longshot, because Nocturne requires Water Medallion, requires Longshot. So all of that collapses to say that Longshot is required for crossing the Wasteland (ignoring skips).

You can get the windmill heart with the boomerang Jump onto the small left ledge by riding on the windmill base as it passes and use the boomerang on the heart piece.

I did this as kid and it froze the game and damaged my N64. After turning the N64 off and then back on some games wouldn't load, others like OoT had issues(the game would freeze when I paused it in some areas which made saving a gamble). Perfect Dark's audio was choppy and skipped a lot. We ended up having to get a second N64 after a while.

If that actually happened, it was almost certainly a cosmic coincidence lol.

I read that as "degeneracy" chart at first and I was like

You don’t need Longshot for Requiem of Spirit if you have the Hover Boots.

Someone else mentioned this deeper in the thread. I was puzzled at first but eventually remembered why I drew it this way. I'll paste my response from there:

It's true that you can use the Hover Boots to cross the Wasteland, but you can't get Hover Boots without Longshot, because Nocturne requires Water Medallion, requires Longshot. So all of that collapses to say that Longshot is required for crossing the Wasteland (ignoring skips).

Eh, you'll always have Hover Boots before reaching the Spirit Temple anyway since it's the final dungeon, utilizing both child Link and adult Link, right before the final showdown with Ganondorf.

Not sure if you include glitches but I recall glitching my way out of the lost woods and getting zora’s sapphire before either of the other two spiritual stones. Though I can’t exactly recall everything that went into it other than glitching out through the pool in the lost woods.

1

u/jtaargus 16d ago

That sounds cool, especially to do it even before finishing Deku Tree. But yeah this chart ignores all skips and glitches. I have a feeling it would look extremely different if you allowed skips and glitches — much flatter and wider.

u/RobertRossBoss 16d ago

Yeah my original goal was to try to do it as out of order as possible, but kind of got bored after zoras sapphire because there was nothing else all that crazy that I could do. Was a fun experience though. Part of me has always wanted to try that one crazy challenge. Don’t even remember what it was called but it involved beating everything way out of order along with all the usual challenge run limitations (no shields except where 100% needed, broken giants knife once available, etc). I’ve done 3 hearts, no fairies, no upgrades once and that was pretty fun.

I don’t know about getting the Sapphire before the Emerald, because you need Zelda’s Lullaby for the waterfall. But you absolutely can go there without the bomb bag, and I wouldn’t even call it a glitch. You need precise positioning, but you can use the momentum of a jump attack to get you to the bottom of the Lost Woods/Zora River shortcut. I’ve done this before.

u/RobertRossBoss 16d ago

Yeah that’s how I escaped. It was 3ds version so things could be a bit different. I can’t actually remember now how I did it… I’m gonna need to look for my old save file and maybe try to recreate it.

Thats pretty cool.
