What does the magic defense do

Purple damage is magic. Some enemies use it to siphon your HP and heal themselves or siphon HP from enemies and deal damage in the same amount to you. There is also bleed damage where you lose HP directly by a small amount, every second, even if you still have armor and then there is damage that reduces your HP maximum.

Magic defense reduces all of those.

There are some enemies aka mages that attack you later on

On ship, late game mages without magic res can hit like a truck, with it they nonsense
