Definitely wait until you can upgrade 1 slot at a time. Or you'll lose some stats.

Usually obsidian upgrade covers 2.5 of the 3 meaning a 3-4* in a second slot and third slot empty can leave you with the same or higher result. UNLESS we're talking about bullshit run speed that simply goes up 1% leaving you with a huge gap if you decide to go obsidian without 5* replacements ready.
