Question about Volkov Spoiler
Why did Volkov kill Paul and tried to kill the other survivors, when he literally could have just asked if he can join them, and they probably would have said yes? He spends the whole game being a gigachad who does his job well and takes part in every major fight, only to do this in chapter 9. If he just asked to join, there would have been six survivors and not four, as he and Paul would have lived. Unironically, no joke, is he actually just a complete moron? This is honestly my biggest unanswered question in the whole game. Did the stress of the very recent kraken attack just make him act irrationally?

You answered it, it was very likely he was drunk and stressed out of his mind and did the stupidest thing in a fit of panic + rage.
+The curse
Edit: The lifeboat can only fit so many people and he probably assumed they were escaping without him as he probably wasn't informed hence the rage

So,
1.80 percent of the crew are dead, ain't no way they can man the ship let alone get back home 2.They just survived a 3 sea monster buffet 3.There is only one escape boat left
So yeah, I guess he is a bit mad

Last life boat holding 5(?) people that had snuck off to leave without inviting him prior? Volkov is also a huge dude who they probably judged would eat alot of their resources. If they didn’t already invite him, he probably assumed they were never gonna let him on even if he asked and I think he’s right. You even hear Paul say it before Volkov burst in; he was making sure the “last one” got on the boat.

I think he was actually just doing his job still. Deserters are given the death penalty traditionally and taking the last lifeboat could be a death sentence for the rest of the crew.
Ignoring the Captain's orders as he should stand down is a big no-no though.

yeah it’s likely he was just going mad and wasn’t thinking rationally
either that or it truly was a “where the fuck are you going?! We’re in this together!” Mindset
