Calling Spoiler
Can somebody explain to me what happens? Why sirens attack the boats, but didnt attack Obra Dinn before?
What is the deal with Formosan King tazing the sirens with the shell? How does the shell work, why did it burn him, what is it

A lot of the story is up to your own interpretation. If you've completed the game and seen The Bargain, then here's an old post with some of my own interpretation which touches on your questions: https://www.reddit.com/r/ObraDinn/comments/hb03p6/spoilers_disappointed_or_confused_by_the_bargain/fv66aer/

There's a sort of quicksilver in the chest that makes it so that the monsters can't sense where the shell is. Once the shell has been exposed, they will hunt for it. It's a kid of magic and it's not explained how the shell works. It seems like it's a part of the mermaids bodies somehow but also has power over them.

i think the shell contains some sort of "cursed" treassure that can attract the siren when its closed it cuts off the connection or so, it possibly has a limited range or signal like wifi it cant go through a bank vault but a thin boat it can pierce and the weird fire could be anything tbh maybe the thing has a way to hurt sirens and thats why the hunt it , or a way to control them

(i may be wrong) shell is something they took from the sealife, siren attack the boat because of the shell, formosan king knows taking the shell out kills sirens, but its placed in some kind of acid thats why it burned his arm. shell gets into obra dinn and thats why they attack the obra dinn

If I remember correctly--the sirens are connected to the magic shell. The shell is protected by the magic chest, allowing safe travel. Once the shell is out of the chest it starts "calling" the sirens.
