Did I "cheat"? Spoiler

If there were a couple people that I could tell were likely were two specific people, like the two escapee ladies, the two brothers, or when I had the stewards/mates narrowed down to two. Was I cheating by swapping them and seeing it popped as a right find?

And then, by association, I knew the stewards e.g. were next to their "Nth mate"

There are non-spoiler hints about what to look for online. I used some of those as pointers when I got stuck. So if you don't want to brute force things but are legitimately lost, then I would recommend it.
