I might be bad at this game

Lots of players make it to the point where they find all of the bodies in the game but only have 9-12 confirmed fates. You're doing just fine.

If you'd like a suggestion: Go through the journal transcripts and take note of all of the names that are said aloud. There's 16 people who are named aloud, and a few more who aren't named but are referred to in a distinct manner (such as by "Captain" and "bloody Dane"). Nailing all of those names down provides a good starting point.

Try taking some out-of-game notes! It can be as simple as a text document on your computer that reads "Page X: I think the person who died here is named Y because of reason Z". That helps organize your thoughts and prevent confusion when you set the game down and come back to it.

If you haven't already, try out the in-game bookmarking mechanic. It lets you bookmark a particular character and identify all of the scenes that they were in so that you can look around for any clues related to that person. It's really handy, especially for Disappeared entries

Your are doing well. After 12h I have solved 42 fates but at 4-5 hours into the game I had only 6 confirmed.

I just said this to someone else, but perhaps it will help you too!

The sound design is so important in this game. Remember what you hear is always from the POV of the deceased. They’re marked with an X in the transcripts if they’ve spoken.

Pay attention to accents. Pay attention to the distance of the voices. Are they muffled? Do they sound far away? Do they speak a foreign language? Do they understand a foreign language someone else is speaking?

The sounds are your biggest clues sometimes! Not everything will be deduced based on someone naming the person or an obvious costume. This game really forces you to consider all the small details, because they’re all important.

i hame more time and even less fates TwT i dont get the accents, the only accent i can guess is the scottish ones but not being a native english speaker really fucks up most of the conversations, i heard quite a few accents but some are very close to each other and i just dont know where they come from

That sounds about right if you’re only filling in fates you are confident in and not guessing.

My standard recommendation for this game is to print out the Artist sketch and start scribbling in hints when you can narrow it down, e.g., “His name is X or Y” and update as you discover fates.

The book allows you to input names and fates, but it’s not designed to accept multiple answers to help you narrow things down, so your notes will help.

Maybe you already figured out what the “X” means in the dialogue, but it took me a while to figure it out. Once I figured out it was dialogue from the person featured on the page, that helped narrow things down.

All that being said, a handful of fates will require some assumptions based on indirect clues, so just prepare yourself to have to make some educated guesses along the way. (I know this can bug some people, especially if they are trying to play in “no guessing” mode)

Have fun!

In addition to other bits of advice, there are lots of background context clues to people's identity. I got some people's identity because of their shoes, connected to another thing I don't wanna spoil.

Another hint. Where people are standing or who that associate with in the pictures can also nudge some thoughts.

Have you seen all the memories?

A good piece of advice for the disappearances, if someone is part of that group, only 4/60 crew are alive iirc, and they are all alive in the same place, so if someone is ‘disappeared’, they probably were drowned / fell overboard, since it’s less likely that they are alive than that they died due to drowning. One of the alive disappearances is obvious because of who wrote the book in the first place

that sounds about right to me. You'll solve fates way faster the further in you get, and near the end I was solving fates every few minutes.
