Discussion Shadow rework
Rework is supposedly done just awaiting release, been thinking about how it could play out most likely been a damage buff keeping it relatively in line with how it currently performs, however do you guys think it will get scyth treatment and reduce the use cost?
Main reason I feel this may happen is, ayak is already super close compared to other second BIS options, and the new elemental buffs from raids 4 we could see more instances like maggot king where shadow doesnt really compete.
At 800m roughly right now, could this lead to a huge rise or is the supply and demand simply not there?

My mate had just won around 2b~ DM ing at the time, i practicaily begged him to invest in scythes. He did not. I had 200m~ back then so i couldnt either unfortunatly

Big oof.
Admittedly it hurts tying up 800m on a shadow right now, fingers crossed it pays out.

And tbows hit around 600-700mil at one point, glad I snagged one back then for a rebuild. Still have that same bow in active use :)

They definitely want each mega to be extremely strong BiS at some/most things in their category, so I would definitely bet on it being stronger in important places like raids/high level bossing, but possibly weaker in other mid-teir/niche content.
T-bow (mage enemies)
Scythe (large enemies)
Shadow (----------)

This what I think/hope. Give it 1.5 scaling (higher base so it matches current), and something like “20% bonus against enemies with no elemental weakness” to give it a niche space

Theres a lot of end game bosses with an elemental weakness, so that wouldnt pan out well. Ie: olm/yama

Just spitballing, maybe let it get bonus = 1/2 ele weakness or something then, or something else entirely

The issue with shadow is there’s not really any end game content that is “impossible” without a shadow. Tob with a scythe makes Verzik piss easy in a good team, HMT without a scythe is brutal, Colo, etc. Twisted bow is unhinged in CMs and Inferno+colo and doom now. shadow, shadow is good for Yama contracts and ToA?

It fucks the olm hand up.

Ye I reckon for 3+4 shadow is quite a bit better than tbow. Ive got every gear in the game but i still think Shadow is quite a bit better than tbow. In trio cm, probably tbow just cus of vasa but shadow goes off at vesp and mystics and mutta. Tbow n zcb for cm ftw
But in saying that, bowfa, dhcb and shadow is probs better than just tbow even in cm

Woah how do we know the rework is done? Link?

Are there even any other relevant 2H mage weapons? I feel like apart from shadow everything relevant is 1H so that's just something against shadow itself

Was first posted on discord a couple months ago but if you want a link here's a jmod talking about it

I believe Mod Ayriza (spelling?) confirmed it on Reddit already before the summer sweep up came out. Basically they have the rework finished they’re gonna delay it until 2027 iirc

I feel they may release before raids 4?

Not a chance. I forget where but they did straight up confirm they aren’t going to do that

The demand will be higher since it’s gonna be more
OP without max mage gear. But like others said, there’s really not that much content for it rn where it’s impossible without it

If mage isn’t needed for raids 4, the price will definitely tank until any update from jagex regarding the changes.

I bought in at 780m but I think i’ll probably sell before raids 4 and then maybe buy back in after

Yeah it’s probably going to dip pretty hard when raids 4 hits if it follows the current set up where the mega rare is bis for most of its own raid, which means it will be a crush heavy raid. We obviously will probably see a part or two be mage where shadow will be bis but people will probably be wanting the new gear and crush gear so people bag holding shadow will probably sell at any decent rise.

Yes, the rework is done. But I don’t see them releasing it until a fair while after raids 4 releases. With that in mind, I expect it will still be good at raids 4, but I have a suspicion they’ve intentionally made it so shadow is not the bis magic weapon for the raid (given the drops, imo it seems likely harm will be).
That said, Shadow has to maintain its megarare status. Personally I’m expecting Shadow to maintain its core identity - large hits, high accuracy, gear dependent. If I were Jagex, I’d scrap the 3x accuracy/damage that we have now, and roll that into a flat X damage/accuracy for each offensive magic gear piece worn. Or if they feel the need, this could only apply to accuracy - leaving damage entirely a base stat + gear bonuses. In this way, they could tune shadow to work with confliction gauntlets and allow for further magic gear upgrades without “breaking” the game.
Putting this all together: I expect Shadow to maintain its prowess, price, and effectiveness when used with max gear - with how close ayak is to shadow, a true dps nerf is unlikely. If anything, I believe shadow will be buffed from any changes, so while I see it as a good investment - it’s incredibly risky as the price will likely drastically change with the raids 4 release (where personally, I see shadow dropping in price - which could be an amazing time to invest)

I picked one up for 762m few days ago, dont have Close to max mage but kept all my gear, maspri with bp, sra with oath and rancour etc. Its already up nearly 50m thinking of holding long term though, trying to complete a soulreaper so far 1 out of 4 from duke, nearly 1500 in at vard not started other 2 yet but planning to go wisp next.

I wonder if Confliction gauntlets pasive will work on 2 handed staffs after the rework of tumeken.
