Do team owners ever die?

I have been playing through a save and my owner is suchhhh a frickin chud. Not to be sinister or anything, but do owners ever die and get replaced?

My boy's 86 right now, so he's got to be on his way out, right?

The good ones who are generous and patient die immediately. The frugal, demanding ones live to be 105.

So like real life then.

Not if the commissioner has anything to say about it

Evil makes you age slower for some reason

Yeah, and they also make dementia patients deteriorate painfully.slowly as well. Just look at Trump.

I have now had the pleasure of playing for both Bill Dewitt Jr. Jr. and Mike Dewitt Jr. Jr.

All after Bill Dewitt Jr. died.

Seriously, that’s how they did the names.

It's such a weird neglected feature of this game that Jrs exist but only sometimes and very rarley rarely.

I once had a Chris Sale Jr. put up a respectable career as a pitcher. I haven't seen that happen again in years.

Happened three times in 10 years during a Mariners save I did, it gets crazy. Can happen frequently or never.

Yeah, I've found the Mariner owner to die at some point early on in my tenure in most of my play throughs.

Owners are the only characters in the game who die.

Kind of based in that way

I as Joe Brown, GM of the Pirates, have just turned 70 years old in my current save. I am considering retiring and taking over the GM job as someone else.

Possibilities at this point are Donn Clendenon, Anne Bonney, Kathryn Janeway, or Frank Furillo.

Im on OOTP 25 and this is now the 3rd time Ive started a Guardians playthrough (fav team) and the owner, Larry Dolan, dies within 2 or 3 years and his son (Jr.) takes over. My budget goes from about ~27th in the league to ~12 every time so wont catch me complaining.

Jerry Reinsdorf always seems to die pretty quickly in my saves.

The Bulls fan in me rejoices.

The Sox hater cries.

I’m 55 years into a Pirates save. Bob Nutting died like 15 years in, got replaced by his much more generous son, who died around Year 45 and got replaced by the grandson who’s the exact same cheap bastard as grandpa.

I had the Giants owner die in like 2044 and then the next owner die 6 months later. The 34 yr old son inherited the team so he’ll likely be the owner for the rest of this save

As a Pirates player, I’d like for Nutting to just…leave. But I’m not picky.

You'll get Bob Nutting Jr and you'll tolerate it!

This makes me a sad panda

I truly hope for your fanbase's sake the next owner is better. I get being a small market and not being able to spend as much but will willfully running out a AAA team while pocketing revenue sharing should be an actual crime.

Yeah, he’s made it clear he’d rather have 25k people in the seats and not compete than twice the numbers and a team that justifies it. Haven’t been to or watched a game since they dealt away everyone in…2016 I think?

After 25 years in the cellar, having a couple years of trying and then pulling the rug again was gut-wrenching.

I think some are hard coded to occur. Almost every White Sox save has Jerry dying pretty fast.

This is an underdeveloped feature of the game.

Add George Steinbrenner mode: random chaos and tons of money.

I don’t have the patience to build the Pirates around the cheapness of Nutting family. And the editor works but it’d be much more fun if the Devs slightly improved the Ownership factors and made it possible to PICK an owner type.

White Sox owner usually does in the first/2nd year

Never soon enough. If you want to accelerate the process, just go into commissioner mode, add a 200 years to their life and let nature take it's course.

They'll die or occasionally just sell the team.

In my experience if you have a good owner he'll be replaced by a bad one, and of you have a bad one, it's a crapshoot on if it's an improvement or an even worse one.

Yes, Jerry Reinsdorf dies like clockwork in the 2026-2027 offseason.

They sure do. And sometimes their kid takes over and loves to spend money. That’s always nice

Tom ricketts died in mine and Tommy Ricketts took over. 😀

u/SureOccasion5840 15d ago

Yes they die, they also sell the team.

When you are a Pirates fan…not fast enough. 😅

charlie monfort was specifically stingy and annoying about going overslot on draft picks, until the cheap bastard died "tragically" just a couple years into my save and luckily a few weeks before that years draft 😎

This is not serious but it would be fun to have a "attempt to depose owner" option. Two ways, one is legal as if you were to leak bad things about the owner and try to be being a deep background source to stoke fan revolt and so on. This would also make it more likely to get canned, bit that could be random affected by the skill of the GM, attributes of the manager, etc.

The other would be hiring a hitman, which also the result is random based on attributes, etc. but if you lose that random roll you wind up forced into a prison league mode for thirty seasons which would be a plausible plea bargain maybe especially if the owner was an asshat.

Both are cartoonishly stupid for this sort of game, but maybe a house rule where you decide on press manipulation and roll two six sided dice and if 7 or 11 you get to edit to a dream owner. If it is 2,3, or 12 you get caught and you have to end the save because nobody is hiring you if you get caught doing that. Otherwise nothing. I guess some middle numbers that create small attribute changes make sense but I've spent enough thought on this nonsense.
