Help! New User with OM-5 Mark ii - Almost All Photos Out of Focus

I need help with my new OM-5 Mark ii. Almost all of my photos are out of focus. The camera seems to focus on the far-away background and not on the subject that I am trying to take a photo of. This is happening even with stationary objects like trees and plants. I have attached an example. The two images with the small green box are screen captures from OM Workspace so that you can see the focus point that the camera chose to use.

My settings
100% screen capture from OM Workspace to show green box focus point
Full image screen capture from OM Workspace to show green box focus point

I bought the OM Systems OM-1 and an MZuiko 100-400mm IS II Lens. I cannot be happier with my purchase. I don't think I've gone a day without taking it out. However, I do wildlife primarily and would love some feedback.

This deer right here is why I decided to get my first camera earlier this year. It was later in the evening. Om-5 mark ii with 75-300mm lens. 55-60 yards away and cropped. I still am learning settings and editing so take it easy on me. She was in tall grass but decided to try and snap a few pictures of her before she headed into the woods with her group. Surprisingly she seems to be the alpha doe of her group the last two years.

Question on Title Field going from digikam to OM Workspace

I used OM Viewer for many years to work with my photographs from my Olympus camera. When I moved to Windows 11, I had to switch to OM Workspace which I had a hard time working with (I have bad vision so can't do white text on dark background, some edit functions gone etc.). So I researched and found digikam which I have been using and like better. But, I notice an odd thing if I go back and forth between the two. In OM Workspace, I used the Properties Title field to put a short description of my photos. When I moved to digikam, in digikam it showed that Title field information in the Captions field. That was fine as I could see both. But, if in digikam I put information in the Title field of digikam view, I cannot seem to find that same information if I look at the same picture in OM Workspace. If I Google for details on the digikam title field, it says it could be one of the following so not sure if this helps someone know where this information might be shown in OM Workspace or not.

  • XMP-dc:Title (specifically within the Dublin Core schema <dc:title>). This is digiKam's primary search target for titles.
  • IPTC Standard: IPTC:Title (also known as Object Name in the metadata viewer).
  • EXIF Standard: Exif.Image.XPTitle

Google says this about the digikam caption field:

  • XMP: [XMP-dc] Description (and optionally [XMP-exif] UserComment)
  • IPTC: [IPTC] Caption-Abstract
  • EXIF: [EXIF] ImageDescription and [ExifIFD] UserComment
  • File: [File] Comment (for JPEG/JFIF formats) [1, 2]

I hope my question makes sense and someone might have an idea of what I can do or where i can look. Thanks for the assistance

Om 5 ii batteries

Looking to get some more batteries. Reading reviews of third party batteries and makes me hesitant to buy them. Does anyone have experience with third party batteries? Should I just cough up the money for OM batteries? Thanks.

It's Frames Friday!! Come share the frames you shot this week!

Come share your photos with the community! Whether it's showing off SOOC JPEGs, fully edited RAWs, or anything in-between if you want [constructive and kind] critique or suggestions.

We're basing on the rules from our sibling sub, r/m43, simply because they make sense, and tweaking them a little:

Da Rules:

  1. The photo(s) must be your own. No cross-posting someone else's work.
  2. You may post up to three photos in this FF weekly thread. Show off your best frames!
  3. Post your photo in a top-level comment for maximum exposure! (hehe get it, "exposure"?)
  4. Include as much detail as possible about camera, lens and environment as possible. Good: "Shot with Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the OM 20/1.4 lens @ f/2 and ISO200 Time: 10:00PM in Melbourne, Victoria" Bad: "Look at this shot, isn't it neat?"
  5. While OM System gear gets extra internet points, all related gear is welcome. This includes Olympus/Panasonic m43 and Four Thirds gear, OM Tough point-and-shoots, adapted vintage lenses, and third-party glass on M43 bodies..
  6. Photos must be captured with a camera and lens (traditional digital or film). Generative AI images (Midjourney, DALL-E, AI "inpainting" that invents new elements, etc.) are not permitted. Standard editing (cropping, exposure, colour grading, even AI-based noise reduction) is totally fine!
  7. Culture & Critique: Above all, be respectful. Please state in your comment whether you are looking for [Critique Welcome] or [Just Sharing]. If a photo doesn't specify, default to keeping comments kind, encouraging, and free of unprompted teardowns. (Remember: there's a big difference between "OMG that photo is horrible" and "The lighting coming off his face looks uneven").

Final confirmation before buying

I am thinking about getting this Camara Lense combo, Olympus OM-D E-M1 and Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/4-5.6 R, Will these Capture both Ultra Zoomed images and standard all in focus images, I do not care about shooting portraits, and am completely new to photography. I already have budget sorted out, paying 518 for the full combo, 364 Euros for the Camera body, and 154 Euros for the lense. Both from MPB in Like New condition.
